Governorship candidate  of the All Progressives Congress  (APC) in Ogun State Prince Dapo Abiodun on Monday flagged – off his campaign at Atan, the headquarters of Ijebu North East Local Government Area, pledging to keep his electioneering promises if elected Governor come March 2, this year.

Abiodun, who received rousing welcome and support of thousands of party faithful and  supporters,  said that his administration would implementing programmes  contained in his policy documents, if he is elected into office.

The frontline governorship candidate and successful entrepreneur, added that the only way to deliver his policy documents would be by  returning power to the Local Governments in the state  to enable them perform their constitutional roles effectively and efficiently.

He rued the situation where Local Government Chairmen  would  have to first run to Abeokuta routinely begging for funds from the Governor before they could perform even fractions of their rudimentary roles.

He said: “By returning power to local government chairmen to operate unfettered, council bosses will no longer have to go to Abeokuta to beg for funds to run their administration.

“They will be like mayors, like what we have in the advanced countries. By so doing, they will have time to deliver good programmes for the people of their immediate communities.

“Also, there will be prompt payment of salaries of teachers and civil servants in the state, without delivering.”

He recalled that indigenes and residents of the Local Government  would not forget that when he  pledged in 2015 while jostling for Ogun East Senatorial seat on the platform of the APC,  he made good of his promise with personal donation of six transformers to Isonyin, Eruwon and eight other communities that were without electricity for almost 10 years.

The Governorship hopeful  appealed for the massive votes of the Local government as was done in 2015, to enable him emerge victorious at the governorship poll.

“Don’t be confused, but ensure you cast your votes for as your next governor of Ogun State. You should know where you are coming from and know where you are going,” he said.

Former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Sen Gbenga Kaka, appealed to the people of Ijebu North-East to be wary of candidates they are going to vote for, in the forthcoming general elections.

He said except those who are bind would not be able to differentiate what is good from bad.

Kaka said:”Except those who are blind would not be able to differentiate what is good from bad.

“You are to follow a right path by casting your votes for a good candidate like Dapo Abiodun as your next governor of Ogun State.

He and his running mate, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, enjoy strong support from the Federal, State and local government levels.”

However, no fewer than 2,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Accord Party (AP) and Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the Local Government dumped the three parties and declared their support for Abiodun and APC.

Also, about 50 traditional rulers under the aegis of Council of Baales drawn from various communities and villages within the local government  expressed support for Abiodun governorship ambition and prayed for his success at the polls.

Spokesperson of the Council of Baales, High Chief Durojaiye Olugbode, said the landmark kindness of the APC governorship candidate as recorded when he was contesting for Ogun East Senatorial seat in 2015 spurred them to endorse him as their governorship candidate.

He said Abiodun redeemed his pledge when their respective communities were in total darkness and he provided six transformers that have restored electricity.

Earlier in the day, executives and members of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ijebu-Ode branch, who had converged on the Palace of the Olisa of Ijebu – Ode, High Chief Rasheed Adesanya, also prayed and endorsed the APC candidate as the next governor of the state.

  • APC will form govt in Ogun come May 29 – Osoba

Former Governor Segun Osoba has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Prince Adedapo Abiodun, would form the government of Ogun State come May 29, 2019.

Osoba said with the good support of the APC members, supporters and caliber of the governorship candidate, Abiodun, the party would coast home with victory, enjoining party faithful not to rest on their oars.

The Akirogun of Egbaland made this known while addressing thousands of party members and supporters at his residence in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, the state capital, during the formal unveiling of Abiodun’s running mate, Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

He assured that the next APC administration in the state would place more premium in zoning all political offices to reflect a sense of belonging to all sections, unlike what allegedly obtained today with Ibikunle Amosun’s government where a particular zone benefits more from appointments to the disadvantages of other zones.

Osoba implored all the chieftains and members of the party to work in harmony to ensure success.

He said: “Whether they like it or not Dapo Abiodun had become the Ogun State APC governorship candidate.

Those who didn’t wish APC well have been disappointed.

“The task had begun. We are in the midst of enemies and we should come together as one.

“I want to urge all that we have just started. I am 80 years old and I am old enough to say things the way they are.

“We don’t want any group within the APC. It is an insult.

“We are just going into elections period and we should stop insulting our candidate.

“From now onward, let us be one. Leaders don’t hold group meetings, but what you should be having is APC meeting as a party and it should be for the governorship candidature of Dapo Abiodun.

“Three-quarter of your poster should bear APC logo, a quarter for a candidate’s picture and another quarter for the party’s slogan.

“So, as we are moving today, disunity is over. We are fighting a vicious war and we should fight it within the purview of the APC constitution. Go and deliver your polling booths,” said Osoba.

Prominent leaders in attendance include the governorship flag bearer, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the governorship running mate, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Senators: Biyi Durojaiye, Gbenga Kaka, Gbenga Obadara, Akin Odunsi, Dipo Odujinrin, Tunji Egbetokun, Prince Segun Adesegun among others.

  • 2019: ‘Ogun APC should let people pick governorship candidate’

Former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Senator Gbenga Kaka, on Monday appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to give the people free hands to decide who should fly the party’s governorship ticket in 2019.

Kaka said that a free and fair primaries where party members enjoyed the freedom to select a formidable, popular and strong governorship candidate that could  match the opposition, would ensure the victory of APC  and its governorship candidate in 2919 governorship race in the state.

The Senator who represented the Ogun East at the Senate from 2011 – 2015, made this known while addressing reporters  at the Abeokuta Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, advising that the choice of who becomes the party’s governorship candidate must not a product of bedrooms decision or one restricted to zoning formula.

According to him, the process must give room for an all inclusive decision so as not to shut out the best man for the job.

Kaka stated this to declare his ambition to run for the governorship of the state in 2019.

He pleaded with  the party leadership in the state not to allow any part feel inferior as every section of Ogun State is well endowed and has all it takes to rule the state.

“If it has been by zoning, I am sure Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo with all his celebrated legacies across the South West would never have made it. In any case, I am not aware of any zoning because the national body of our party is yet to release the guidelines for the election. So, when we get to the bridge, we shall cross it,” he said.

He denied being sponsored for the governorship ambition for political negotiations by the former governor of the state, Chief Olusegun Osoba, saying  his desire to be next governor of the state was not a do or die affair and that it is an ambition being purely driven by overwhelming need to harness the potentials of the state for its further growth and development.

He promised to run a government that will assiduously work to defeat poverty among the people, restore hope to the hopeless in the society, pay the workers and pensioners as and when due, equip the schools with cutting edge facilities, provide affordable qualitative health care services as well as development of the agricultural sector among others.

  • Defection of APC NASS members unhealthy for stable politics – Sen. Kaka

… Stressing, ‘defection was their game plan from beginning’

Senator Gbenga Kaka on Tuesday bemoaned the defection of some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the National Assembly (NA) to the opposition political parties – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying it would not augur well for the “stability” of the  nation’s politics.

Kaka who represented Ogun East at the Senate from 2011 – 2015, however added that the defection of the APC lawmakers during plenaries at the chambers of the Upper and Lower arms of the National Assembly on Tuesday, was not a thing of surprise.

Speaking with reporters at the main campus of the Olabisi Obabanjo University (OOU), Ago – Iwoye, Ogun State, about the development, the Senator said a good number of party members knew that defecting to PDP was the game plan with the formation of Engr. Buba Galadima – led Reformed – APC.

He also expressed worry that the action of the lawmakers could erode the power of political parties to achieve supremacy over members or enforce discipline on them.

He, however, admitted that what the defectors had done was covered by the law of the land, especially if there is an alleged division within one’s political party.

The former Deputy Governor of Ogun State added that the party can approach the law court and ask it to declare as illegal, the Reformed – APC which the defectors relied on to move to other political parties.

He hailed the new leadership of APC, Adams Oshiomole, for being “resolute” and working to set the pace for “party supremacy” over members, be it the executive or the lawnakers unlike his predecessor, Dr. John Odigie – Oyegun, whom he said adopted “laissez faire” approach during his tenure.

According to him, once general elections are conducted and winners emerged on the platform of a political party, elected and appointed office holders must “obey and surrender to the supremacy of such party” that shut them into power.

He urged the executive and the two arms of National Assembly to seek avenues to work together, pursue unity and justice in the interest of peace and stability of the country’s politics.
