    Police investigate death of Abuja crossdresser

    …corpse found lying on Katampe-Mabushi expressway

    A known crossdresser in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was found dead on Thursday morning along the Katampe-Mabushi expressway.

    FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, reported that preliminary investigations revealed the individual was a man dressed in female clothing and lacked any form of identification.

    The deceased was promptly transported to Maitama District Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.

    A statement issued on Thursday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh said: “In response to a distress call received by the Command Control Room on 08/08/2024 at about 07:40 AM, that an unidentified lady was seen lying motionless along Katampe – Mabushi expressway, a team of detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene.

    “The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, has promptly ordered a thorough and discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death. Updates on this matter will be communicated in due course.”

    Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim Foundation grants N20 million to Small Scale Entrepreneurs in Kwara

    The Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim Foundation, a non profit humanitarian organization on Wednesday, June 19, granted about N20 million to empower some small scale entrepreneurs in Kwara State as part of its Economic Empowerment Programme for vulnerable section of society.

    The Foundation, promoted by a former presidential candidate, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim gave is basically to lift vulnerable Nigerians out of poverty and set their feet on the path of productivity.

    In his speech at the event, Olawepo-Hashim explained that his gesture is to give back to society.

    According to him, “I have been doing this for decades. I have a passion to make society better. It is not about having a deep pocket, but about commitment and passion to help people just as God has also helped me.”

    He admonished the benefiaciaries to put the grant into good use instead of lavishing it on frivolities and liabilities.

    “Don’t eat the seed, plant and nurture it , to produce more fruits to better your lives, so that you too can empower people.

    “Nigeria was once a productive nation, producing clothes, cars, pharmaceuticals, etc. we must go back to the old and glorious path. We can start by these small steps,” Olawepo-Hashim said.

    He added that, “what I can do at this time when things are really bad is to show love to underprivileged people in particular, and that we have been doing for decades.

    Mallam Naallah Azeez , coordinator Gbenga Olwaepo-Hashim Youth Vanguard described Olawepo as an undiluted politician and a great mentor, adding that the Otoge revolution that changed the political dynamics in Kwara in 2019 was started by him.
    He prayed that God will continue to enrich him to play his part in this generation.

    Yinka Babatunde Alanamu equally commended Olawepo-Hashim for “spending his own money to empower us” and prayed for God’s continuous blessing on him.

    Pastor Samson Abodunrin, representing the Executives of the
    Ifesowapo Community area of Ilorin recalled Olawepo-Hashim’s great assistance to the community by grading our road and constricting drainages for us.

    ” We really appreciate his great gesture. What you don’t appreciate, will depreciate. We will continue to appreciate his great contribution which has been a great relief to us,” he said, adding that
    “his charity began at home …we are now feeling his impact already.

    Abodunrin prayed that Olawepo-Hashim will live to fulfill his destiny.

    Not a few of the participants at the event commended the Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim Foundation and called on well meaning Nigerians to emulate the non-partisan approach of Mr. Olawepo-Hashim towards ameliorating the plight of the less privileged.

    In his closing remarks, Mr. Kamal Adebayo, the Chief of Staff to Olawepo-Hashim disclosed that the Ilorin event was not the first, adding that a lot of Nigerians had benefitted from this gesture across the country.

    The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has disbursed the sum of N6,316,621,045.37 billion to the six area councils and other stakeholders as a statutory allocation for March 2024.

    The amount represents a geometric increase of approximately 40 percent when compared to N3,938,092,102.92 billion shared in February 2024.

    The FCT minister of state, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, who presided over the 188th Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC), expressed satisfaction over the increase.

    She, therefore, urged the Area Council Authorities to justify the monthly allocation by embarking on meaningful projects.

    According to a statement issued on Thursday by her Special Assistant Media, Austine Elemue, the minister said: “The allocation to the area councils as it stands today goes beyond payment of staff salaries. It is, therefore, high time for the chairmen to embark on people-oriented projects to justify the resources that go to the councils”.

    However, a breakdown of the figures released during the JAAC meeting indicates that the sum of N3,814,043,951.50billion was made available for distribution to the six area councils, while the sum of N2,502,577,093.87billion was made available to other stakeholders, bringing the total sum to N6,316,621,045.37billion.

    Similarly, distributions to the six area councils show that the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), received N796,985,326.39million, while Gwagwalada got N606,666,131.20million and Kuje received N635,903,823.41million.

    Other area councils include, Bwari Area Council which received N598,406,880.71million, Abaji got N564,901,838.77million while Kwali received N611,179,951.02million, bringing the total sum to N3,814,043,951.50billion disbursed to the six area councils.

    On the other hand, distribution to other critical stakeholders includes: Primary School Teachers which gulped N2,115,855,089.92billion, 15 percent of Pension Funds took N226,478,989.57million, One percent of Training Fund gulped N52,394,108.75million, while 10 percent of Employer Pension Contribution gulped N107,849,405.63million, bringing the total sum to N2,502,577,093.87billion.

    Those present at the 188th Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting include the Senior Special Assistant on Administration and Strategy to FCT Minister of State, Dr. Abdullahi Isa Kauramata, Mandate Secretary Area Council Services Secretariat, Hon. Bitrus Garki, Permanent Secretary, Area Council Services Secretariat, Dr. Olusa Olusegun, Ag. Director of Funds, Mr. Muhammed Aris, Commissioner FCT Revenue Mobilization Fiscal Allocation Commission, Hon. Ismail Ajaka, and the representative of the Accountant General’s Office, Mr. Muhmud Nasiri.

    Others include the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, Hon. Christopher Maikalagun, Chairman of Abaji Area Council, Hon. Abdullahi Abubakar, Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Hon. John Gabaya and representatives of the chairman of Gwagwalada and Kwali Area Council amongst others.
