WAFU-B U17 Championship : Agha vows to keep improving despite  hat trick heroics

Golden Eaglets striker George Agha has vowed not to rest on his laurels after netting a hat-trick in Nigeria’s 4–1 victory over Benin Republic in their opening game at the WAFU-B U17 Championship in Yamoussoukro.

The young forward stole the spotlight on Wednesday with three first-half goals and the MVP award, but he was quick to downplay his personal feat, stressing that the team’s focus remains on qualifying for the FIFA U17 World Cup.

“I’m happy to score and help my team win, but I know I still have to improve,” Agha said after the match.

“The most important thing is that we stay focused and keep working hard. Our dream is to qualify for the World Cup, and that is what matters most.”

Agha gave Nigeria a flying start with a third-minute penalty after Boluwatife Thompson was fouled. Two minutes later, David Edeh doubled the lead with a fine free-kick. Agha struck again in the 14th minute and completed his hat-trick on 32 minutes after a neat combination play involving Thompson and Edeh.

Benin pulled one back just before halftime through Jeremy Zannou, but Manu Garba’s boys had already secured the win with a commanding first-half display.
