Nigerian teenager George Ilenikhena expressed his delight after scoring his second goal of the season in AS Monaco’s emphatic 5-2 victory over Metz in the French Ligue 1.
The 18-year-old striker, who came off the bench to seal the win with Monaco’s fifth goal, said the result was the perfect response to their disappointing midweek loss in Europe.
“Of course, it was important to react after the defeat in Brugge. We responded with this 5-2 victory. I’m very happy with the team and with my goal. We have to keep it up. We didn’t give up and continued to work together to bounce back today. It’s another victory; we’re second in the table, so we’re happy,” Ilenikhena said in quotes got from his club’s website.

The young forward also spoke about the healthy competition within Monaco’s squad and praised the resurgence of teammate Ansu Fati, who impressed in the match.
“The competition is healthy among us; there are some very good players alongside me. You have to fight in training to earn your place,” he noted.
“When he (Ansu) arrived, it was a bit difficult. He’s been able to come back strong in training; he’s someone who works hard, he’s hungry. He gives his all for the team, so I’m very happy for him. You can see he has that extra something; he can score, deliver good passes.”
With Monaco sitting second in the Ligue 1 standings after five games, Ilenikhena is eager to keep building momentum as he continues his development in France’s top flight.
