Is he finished COMPLETELY or completely FINISHED?

…footballer thanks wife and girlfriend on live TV.

That very awkward moment when it seems like all the forces from your father and mother side from the village have conspired to finish you completely.

For Muhammad Anas, it is evident that unlike R Kelly whose “storm is over”,  Anas storm is still loading from Apapa because his wife back home is ready to dish him (not the tastiest of meals), but the unrestrained strokes from an enraged housewife.

The Ghanaian striker who last week Friday goofed on live TV when he appreciated the combined efforts of his lovely “wife and girlfriend”…oops!

The 22-year-old “striker” who is clearly in trouble with his wife after scoring an own goal during a revealing post-match interview on live TV, which has been branded “the best man-of-the-match speech of all time”.

The winning speech from the ‘fortunate’ baller reads –  “Firstly I appreciate my fans,” Anas began before adding: “[And] my wife and my girlfriend.”

After realising his mistake, Anas attempted to make amends as the camera continued to roll.

“I’m so sorry, my wife!” he quickly added. “I love you so much from my heart.”

“Thanks for supporting me there is more to come,” he blundered on before the interview came to an end.

As a typical Nigerian man, we can all unite in sympathetic resonance with Anas, and also empathise with his pitiable situation because after all we men sometimes suffer similar ordeal.

After you’ve done all you can passwording your phones, tabs, and other gizmos, especially your text messages and your social media handles; only to let your guards down and the cat jumps out of the bag; seriously my brother you have only two options: You are either – COMPLETELY FINISHED or FINISHED COMPLETELY. Only God’s mercy can come to your rescue.

    Ghana lowers cocoa output

Ghana’s Cocobod’s new chief executive Joseph Aidoo on Monday lowered this year’s cocoa output to be around 800,000 tonnes from the initial forecast of 850,000 – 900,000 tonnes.

Aidoo, who did not give reasons for the drop, told Reuters in Accra that the country produced 780,000 tonnes of beans last season.

Cocobod data also seen by Reuters showed that cocoa purchases declared to Ghana’s industry regulator since the start of the 2016/17 season stood at 657,349 tonnes by Feb. 23.

According to the data, the purchases showed a slight drop from the 660,673 tonnes of beans purchased in the same period last season.

But cocoa farmers say they are expecting a better yield this year due to improved weather conditions.

“The rains have started and it’s good for the light crop pods,” farmer Lawrence Adu told Reuters by phone from his base in the Eastern region town of Tafo.

Ghana is the world’s second-biggest cocoa producer.

  • Ghana celebrates Nigerian relationship at 60th Independence Day celebration

Ghana celebrates Nigerian relationship at 60th Independence Day celebration

Mr. William Awinador-Kanyirige, the High Commissioner of Ghana to Nigeria, says Nigeria played a fundamental role in attaining Ghana’s independence leading to a strong relationship between the two countries.

Awinador-Kanyirige made this known at the celebration of the 60th Independence Day anniversary of Ghana which took place on Monday at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Abuja.

He said “the struggle of Ghana’s independence was a struggle not just by Ghanaians but by all Africans that were in that territorial region.

“When we talk of the heroes of Ghana’s independence, we are also talking of the Nigerians that assisted us in that struggle although we don’t hear of them often.

“Our independence is intertwined and when you dig into history, you realise that many Nigerians helped in enforcing the freedom of Ghana.

“Take for instance the Ghana military, which has Hausa songs used to motivate the soldiers, was gotten from the interrelationship between the two countries.

“Colonialists created the Officer Corp Training in Accra and the Police Training School in Kumasi where the great Nnamdi Azikiwe enrolled in before his mother took him out prior to his graduation day.

“The history of our countries has been intertwined for decades and it’s not just the relationship between the military and the government but it is mainly in the relationship between the people of Ghana and Nigeria.

“We hope this relationship gets stronger as we grow together.”

Mr. Peter Iyamabo, who represented the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, urged Nigerians to continue supporting Ghana in order to improve bilateral trade and economic integration.

“Like Nigeria, Ghana is currently carrying out reforms targeted at rebuilding the psyche of the people on issues of transparency and good governance.

“I want to appeal to all Ghanaians present here to support the Ghanaian president, Nana Akufo-Addo, in his efforts to transform Ghana.

“Nigeria and Ghana have both enjoyed economic and international relations as our two countries have signed a number of agreements aimed at fostering economic integration.

“Nigeria remained determined in its resolve to implement bilateral agreements in order to ensure our people receive the full benefits.

“The relationship between Ghana and Nigeria remains very promising and full of potentials, we should collectively build on existing political and economic cooperation that has been the hallmark of our partnership,” he said.

The Charge d’Affaires at the Rwandan high commission, Mr. Protogene Nsengumuremyi, said Rwanda had experienced a good relationship with Ghana over the years and Rwandans were happy to celebrate Ghana’s milestone.

“This is a big celebration and we wish Ghana a prosperous development ahead and I know that their growth will be beneficial to everyone they relate with.

“Rwanda has an excellent relationship with Ghana and we have common political views and interests and that can be seen in our bilateral relationship which has grown stronger over the years.

“We Rwandans are happy to join Ghana in celebrating their 60th independence anniversary and hope to continue such a relationship,” Nsengumuremyi, said.

Rita Orji, Chairman House Committee on Nigerians in the Diaspora, said: “I must confess that Ghana is one of the countries that we have the best relationship with.

“They know how to maturely handle and deal with issues that may bring about controversies or problems.

“Ghana is three years older than Nigeria and the fight for our sovereignty involved similar people like Kwame Nkrumah, Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe and other prominent people.

“There are many Nigerians who migrated from Nigeria and helped develop Ghana, therefore we see Ghanaians as our brothers.

“Nigerians have come to celebrate Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary because Ghana has been a good friend and ally to Nigeria.”

Education: NUC collaborates with NAB Ghana, Sussex University

The National Universities Commission (NUC) is collaborating with the National Accreditation Board (NAB), Ghana and Sussex University, United Kingdom, to develop a proposal to reposition higher education for sustainable development.

This is contained in a current NUC bulletin made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday.

Prof. Abubarkar Rasheed, Executive Secretary, NUC, said the collaboration was with a view to winning the Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education Innovation and Reforms (SPHEIR) Grant.

The SPHEIR Grant is a creation of the UK Department for International Development (DFID) programme, geared towards the transformation of higher education in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

Rasheed expressed hope that the collaboration would go beyond the current initiative.

He said that the myriad of challenges bedeviling the African continent could be attributed to the lack of investment in higher education and research.

He said this was responsible for the prevailing level of socio-economic development vis-à-vis the global ranking of African Universities and African nations in the committee of universities and nation.

The NUC scribe underscored the importance of trans-border collaboration amongst higher education institutions in the continent, particularly in the areas of teaching and research.

He noted the uniqueness of Ghana and Nigeria within the West-Africa Sub-Region, saying that the collaboration would no doubt rekindle the Pan-African spirit among higher education within the region.

He further called for the streamlining of curriculum and adoption of a common policy on credit transfer to encourage academic mobility of students and faculty in the continent.

He assured the delegation from Ghana that the management of NUC would always be ready to welcome laudable ideas and support the ongoing synergy.

In his response, the leader of the delegation and Executive Secretary, NAB Ghana, Prof. Kwame Fatty expressed delight for the willingness of the commission to partner NAB in accessing SPHEIR grant.

He said that only academic cooperation and collaboration between both countries would promote academic excellence and elevate the continent above its challenges.

The Indomitable Lions’ victory will now meet Egypt in the finals. They had their last Nations final with the Egyptians in 2008 after they lost 1-0 to the Pharaohs.

“This is a game I think the team showed a lot of good spirit despite the fact that I rested a lot of the key players,” said the Ghana manager.

  • Ghana launches online passport portal

    Ghana launches online passport portal

Ghana on Tuesday officially launched an online passport application service as part of its e-governance strategy.

Launching the project, Ghana’s Foreign Minister Hanna Tetteh called on Ghanaians to take advantage of the service as it would make it easier for them to apply and obtain a passport within the shortest possible time.

“ I am very glad that we are able to use improved technology to be able to get people safe, secure methods of payment that reduce the stress in actually having to go to a particular location to make payment before your application can be dealt with,’’ she said.

The issuance of biometric passports in Ghana has been characterised by substantial delays and huge backlog, which have constantly drawn complaints from passport applicants.

Under the current arrangement, regular passport applications are to be processed within a minimum of 21 working days, while express ones are to be handled within nine working days.

However, successful applicants had to wait for several months before they could acquire a travel passport owing to the secretariat’s inability to adhere strictly to timelines.

Some Ghanaians have also complained about unnecessary bureaucratic practices and corruption at the office, which added to difficulties in the acquisition and renewal of passports.
