  • Eight comedians for Glo Laffta Fest Accra

    Accra, the capital of Ghana is set for another edition of the popular Glo Laffta Fest, one of the biggest comedy shows in Africa.

    The show holds on Today, September 9, 2018 at the Fantasy Dome, Trade Fair.

    The highly sought-after show is following the trail of an earlier edition when a combination of Ghanaian, Ugandan and Nigerian comic stars entertained thousands of fun-seekers.

    A total of eight comedians have been slated to entertain Glo subscribers and friends of the brand this weekend. There will also be room for up and coming acts to showcase their skills at the show.

    The roll call of performers include DKB, Khemikal, Foster Romanus, Basketmouth, Gordons, Dan D’Humorous, Senator and Salvador from Uganda.

    According to a press release by Globacom, the show is billed to start at 4 p.m. and will give fun lovers fond memories to cherish for life.

    To be a part of the show, a Glo subscriber is expected to use up to GHc20 for data or voice, or GHc30 for voice and data, while those who do not already have a Glo SIM but wish to be part of the show, can purchase a pre-bundled SIM for GHc30 and secure their entry tickets instantly.

  • Makurdi warms up for Glo Laffta Fest

    The Benue State capital, Makurdi, is ready to play host to some of the biggest humour merchants in the country at the city’s edition of Globacom’s blockbuster comedy show, Glo Laffta Fest.

    The concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. today at the Royal Choice Inn in the city centre. This will be the 26th edition of the show which kicked off in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on April 16. All the shows have been hugely successful with rib-cracking performances by heavyweights in the comedy industry, such as Basketmouth, Salvador from Uganda, Bovi Ugboma, I Go Dye and Acapella. Others who have also thrilled at the shows are Dan D’Humorous, Seyi Law, De Don, Bash, Senator, Still Ringing and Kenny Blaq.

    According to a press statement issued by Globacom, the residents of Makurdi and neighbouring communities are assured of a highly memorable evening of fun at the concert. To pep up the event, Nollywood’s delectable pair of Uche Jombo and Ebube Nwagbo will serve as anchors, while Kanayo O. Kanayo of the Professor Johnbull TV series fame will be the celebrity guest.

    “This massive comedy show is on the final lap now, having traversed the length and breadth of this great country in the last 25 weeks. The show has continued to evolve every week since the first edition. In essence, the people of Makurdi will be getting on Sunday the very best of comedy they will ever find on a single stage. Our subscribers and prospective subscribers are invited to partake in this unforgettable comedy fiesta,” Globacom said in the statement.

    Re-echoing Globacom’s promise of fun for guests at the Makurdi event is Francis Agoda, popularly known as I Go Dye, who declared that he was ready to give Makurdi residents the best of his jokes today.

    “I want to appeal to the good people of Makurdi not to miss out on the fun of Glo Laffta Fest this Sunday. It is going to be the best evening they have ever had! Take it to the bank,” said I Go Dye.

    Another comedian scheduled to perform at the event, Gordons, also stated, “I am super excited to be on Glo Laffta Fest stage in Makurdi on Sunday. I’m all revved up to unleash the fun. Don’t be left behind. Come and have the fun of your life.”

    To attend the Makurdi show, Glo subscribers who have used up to N2,000 credit in the last one month are required to text ‘LOL’ with the location name to the short code 240; for example, “LOL Makurdi” to 240. Subscribers who do not meet this criterion but who wish to attend the show can come to the venue to purchase airtime worth N2,000 which will entitle them to entry tickets.

     

  • Glo Laffta Fest excites Lokoja residents

    IT was a weekend of excitement for Glo subscribers in Lokoja, as the Kogi State edition of Glo Laffta Fest brought together some of the continent’s finest comedians for a spectacular performance.

    Held at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, the show paraded top humour merchants from different parts of Africa including Bovi Ugboma, Godwin ‘Gordons’ Komone, Salvador from Uganda, Basketmouth, Bash and Senator.

    It was also attended by a mammoth crowd comprising fun lovers from Lokoja and other neighbouring towns including Okene, Kotonkarfe, Obajana and Kabba alongside top officials of Kogi state Government, serving and retired military officers as well as captains of industries operating in the state.

    The show kicked-off with a delightful performance by Bash whose funny jokes revolved around his growing years. He later handed over the baton to Senator who held the audience spellbound with stage swag and perfect delivery of his jokes.

    Next was the outstanding performance by the Ugandan top comedian, Salvador who is not popular in Kogi State. It was however his funny jokes which the crowd enjoyed thoroughly that endeared him to their hearts and he was roundly applauded for a good stage performance.

    The evening of fun continued after Salvador, as Dan D’Humorous took the show to a higher level after which Bovi, Gordons and Basketmouth performed one after the other. There was no dull moment as they all put up spectacular performances in an unforgettable night of fun and laughter.

    The show which was anchored by Kogi-born Mercy Johnson-Okojie, and her Nollywood colleague, Ebube Nwagbo also witnessed celebrity attendance by Kannywood’s star, Sani Danja and Nollywood legend, Kanayo O. Kanayo.

    The Garden city of Port Harcourt will host the Glo Laffta Fest for the second time before the train will move to Onitsha, Makurdi and Ajah in the weeks ahead.

  • GLO TREATS KANO RESIDENTS TO HUMOUR FEST

    RESIDENTS of Nigeria’s most populous city, Kano, were recently treated to a dose of jokes and laughter by seven iconic comedians led by Bright Okpocha, popularly called Basketmouth and Bovi Ugboma.

Other comedians who performed at the show, which coincided with the annual Durbar festival, included Godwin Komone (Gordons), Iruvwe Okiemute (De Don), Francis Agoda (I Go Die), Patrick Onyeke (Mr. Patrick), and Saed Mohammad (Funky Mallam).

    The evening of endless fun was teed off by Mr. Patrick, the drama sketch kingpin, who thoroughly entertained the audience. Funky Mallam, one of the most prominent Nollywood personalities from northern Nigeria, picked the baton and entertained the audience with an admixture of Hausa and English jokes.

    The heavyweights, Gordons, I Go Dye, Bovi and Basketmouth, took the show to its zenith with waves of jokes. Gordons, in his own routine commended the residents of the city for upholding peace and unity in Kano, calling on the media to project the positive image of the city.

    Kannywood star, Sani Danja, Nollywood legend, Kanayo O. Kanayo and accomplished Nollywood comic, Victor Osuagwu complemented the comedians with cameo appearances which excited the overfilled hall whilst Nollywood actresses, Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Uche Jombo anchored the event and DJ XGee entertained with pulsating music from the wheel of steel.

    Attendees who arrived early were appreciated with goody bags while those who correctly answered quiz about Glo products and services and those who excelled in dance competitions were also rewarded with corporate gifts.

    The female category of the dance competitions was jointly won by Maryam Muhammad and Ochuwa Oshio while the male category was jointly won by Gideon Emmanuel and Timilehin Oyedemi.

    Organisers of the Laffta Fest comedy concert which is currently touring the country have said that the Festac edition will be a mega hit as all the comedians slated to perform today have given commitment to give their best.

    One of the attractions of the Festac edition of Glo Laffta Fest is the fast-rising exponent of music comedy, Kehinde Otolorin, popularly known as Kenny Black. He will join other comedians to entertain residents of the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos.

    The Festac show will hold at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Festac. Feelers from that zone of Lagos indicate that the show is likely to draw the people of the Festival Town, Amuwo Odofin and the entire Mile 2 and Ojoo Area of Lagos.

    Gordons also spoke ahead of the event, saying that it would be an evening of unlimited fun and laughter.

    Globacom’s statement revealed that more than 12 of Nigeria’s best humour merchants will perform at the show.

    They include Basketmouth, I Go Dye, Gordons, Bash the Cash, Acapella and Uganda’s funniest man, Salvador.

    As icing on the cake Nigeria’s foremost actresses, Juliet Ibrahim and Ebube Nwagbo, will be anchors of the show.

    To attend the Festac edition of Glo Laffta Fest, Glo subscribers are expected to use up to N2,000 credit within one month and text “LOL Festac” to the short code 240. Subscribers who do not meet up with the N2000 limit before the event but wish to still attend the show are advised to purchase N2000 airtime at the event venue for their own use.

    Basketmouth, others storm Ikorodu for Glo Laffta Fest

    Nigeria’s comedy icon, Bright Okpocha, popularly called Basketmouth, will be leading other accomplished comedians to the city of Ikorodu for the mega comedy show, Glo Laffta Fest, today.

    According to the organisers of the show, Nigeria’s foremost telecommunications company, Globacom, the show is slated for the Ikorodu Musical Village at 1 p.m.

    Other top comedians expected to thrill Ikorodu residents include Gordons, Salvador from Uganda, Helen Paul, Bash, Kenny Black and Acapella.

    Foremost actresses, Ebube Nwagbo and Uche Jombo, will anchor the show, which is expected to attract Glo subscribers and dignitaries from different areas of life.

    The show will also feature special appearances by Nollywood legends, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Patience Ozokwor (Mama G), Odunlade Adekola and Mr. Latin.

    “We are taking the fun to the heart of Ikorodu this Sunday. The people of this city should get ready to enjoy themselves like they have not done before. The experience will be simply breathtaking,” Globacom said.

    Basketmouth gave a hint of what awaits fun seekers, as he charged them to expect “a pleasant surprise.” In the same vein, another successful comedian Godwin Komone, popularly called Gordons, said, “it would be a Sunday to remember for the people of Ikorodu.”   To attend the Ikorodu Laffta Fest comedy show, Glo subscribers are expected to use up to N2,000 credit within one month and text LOL with the location name to the short code 240; for example, “LOL Ikeja” to 240.

  • LAGOS STANDS STILL FOR GLO LAFFTA FEST

    IT was was a time of fun as telecomounnications giant, Globacom, stormed Victoria Island, Lagos with its Glo Laffta Fest.

    The event which held at Eko Hotels and Suites drew established comedians from across Nigeria and Uganda.

    Also in attendance were up-and-coming comedians.

    Among the audience were distinguished  guests including the Mister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde. Globacom ambassadors such as Funke Akindele, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Adekola Odunlade and songster, Omawumi Megbele, also made celebrity appearances.

    The event was the Lagos leg of Glo Laffta Fest 27-city tour and billed to end in October.

    The show started with DJ XGee dishing out danceable tunes followed by acts from up-and-coming comedians such as Kemex, MC Medical, Koye from Rock City and the duet act named British Pastors, who thrilled the audience with funny jokes.

    This was followed by performances from eight A-list stand-up comedians, Princewill, Frank D Don, Bash d Cash, Arinze Baba, Dan D’Humorous, I go Dye, Gordons and Salvador from Uganda.

    Arinze Baba was a delight with his rhythmic music comedy. And a high point of his performance was when he narrated how Igbo musicians had turned Senator Dino Melayé’s Yoruba song, “Ajekun iya ni o je” which went viral on the internet, into Igbo highlife music, even though they did not understand the meaning of the song. He elicited more laughter and thrill when he performed the song in Igbo, with the support of the Disc Jockey.

    Other cities that will host the show in the weeks ahead include, Makurdi, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Festac, Ajah, Suleja, Ibadan, Kano, Port Harcourt,  Lokoja, and Anyigba.

    RESIDENTS of the ancient city of Benin, recently turned out en masse despite the heavy downpour, to witness the Glo Laffta Fest concert.

    Present to thrill guests at the show were some of Africa’s finest including Basketmouth, I Go Dye, Bovi Ugboma, Salvador from Uganda, Acapella, Kenny Blaq and Benin-based comic star, Maleke.

    The artistes who performed demonstrated a great combination of wit and versatility which ensured there was no dull moment throughout the show. The guests were thrown into fits of laughter as the comedians, one after the other, reeled out humorous jokes.

    The likes of Basketmouth, Salvador, Bovi and I Go Dye also showed why they are regarded as masters in the comedy industry with great performances that sent the audience into long spasms of laughter. I Go Dye and Basketmouth also took time to commend Globacom for organising a show of that magnitude, noting that it was increasingly becoming difficult for comedians to put together a show like Glo Laffta Fest because of the economic condition of the country.

    Among the new talents who showcased their skills were local super star, Eboh Bomb, MC Otis, MC Medical, Lucky Wise, MC Action, Emmaralo, British Pastors, and MC Obaro.

    Also, Nollywood legends, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), Patience Ozokwor (Mama G) and Kanayo O. Kanayo (KOK), were the celebrity guests at the event. Their presence added to the excitement in the hall. Show anchor Mercy Johnson-Okojie, who is married to an Edo State indigene, particularly elicited huge appreciation from the audience. Her appearance on stage got many people on their feet, screaming with excitement.

    Among those who attended the show were the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Right Honourable Philip Shuaibu, and his wife, MaryAnn; the speaker of the State House of Assembly, Dr. Justin Okonoboh; Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Folly Ogendegbe, and members of the House, Hon. Gowon Jerry and Hon. Damian Lawani.

    Comedians live up to ‘Waffi’ spirit at Warri Glo Laffta Fest

    The Warri edition of the Glo Laffta Fest comedy show which held penultimate Sunday at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Warri, was nothing but a re-enactment of the ebullient Waffi spirit of the oil rich town, as the comedians on duty received  a rousing ‘Waffi’ reception from the mammoth crowd which spilled outside the hall.

    Led by the Warri-born joke merchant, Bovi, comedians such as Gordons, Dan D’Humorous, De Don, Frank D Don and Arinze Baba, were cognisant of the rule of ‘Waffi’ engagement that the crowd would never tolerate any dull moment.

    Playing the home advantage card, the Warri crowd reserved a special “Waffi warm reception” for its own people including Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), who is of Urhobo and Itsekiri descent,  Bovi, who shares Abraka and Ukwani blood, Gordons and De Don.

    The crowd also warmed up to Arinze Baba, Asaba boy, Frank da Don and Dan D’Humorous. However, Arinze Baba gave the most dramatic session as he laced his performance with music. His brilliant rendition of Osondi Owendi, a track by the late Chief Osita Osadebe, got him a standing ovation as he exited the stage. The show also featured up and coming acts, including fast-rising Warri-based comic, Emmanuel Debekene, popularly called Emmaralo, Kelvinsapp, Young Chief and Ericardo who all gave a good account of themselves.

    Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, was also present.

    A high point of the night of fun piloted by delectable actresses, Mercy Johnson and Ebube Nwagbo, was the calling up on stage and presentation of goody bags by Globacom to mothers who wore green attires midway into the show.

    Subscribers who participated in dance competitions were also rewarded with goody bags. In the ladies category, Janet Nwachukwu, Lilian Ukwamefune and Hope Ogodogun emerged winners while  Kelvin Sunday, Godson Ogaga and Emmanuel Sunday won in the men’s category.

    Warri was the fifth stop in the nationwide comedy show that has held in Port Harcourt, Abuja, Enugu and Owerri. Over the next five months, Glo Laffta Fest will go to other major cities including Awka, Ikeja, Ikorodu, FESTAC, Ajah, Asaba, Calabar, Aba, Suleja, Kubwa, Ibadan, Ijebu Ode, Abeokuta, Ekpoma, Kaduna, Akure, Lokoja, and Anyigba.

    Glo Laffta Fest thrills revellers in Owerri

    Owerri, the Imo State capital was abuzz penultimate weekend as Glo Laffta Fest comedy show hit the city as part of its tour of 27 cities across the country.
    Powered by telecoms giant, Globacom, the show which held at the Trade and Investment Centre was conceived to reward subscribers’ loyalty as well as provide them fun and entertainment.
    And indeed, attendees forgot their worries as they laughed to jokes rendered by some of Africa’s greatest comedians which included as Bovi and Basketmouth combining with other comic acts including AB Simple, Frank the Don, 2CanTalk and Senator. Nollywood actors present also included Patience Ozokwor popularly known as Mama G; Kanayo O. Kanayo (KOK); Angela Okorie and Victor Osuagwu.
    “The anxieties of an average person in Nigeria today are many,” said Pius Eke, a student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri that attended the show which was anchored by screen divas Mercy Johnson and Juliet Ibrahim from Ghana.
    “We worry about virtually everything. Security, power, accommodation and even where our next meal will come from. But in the interest of our health, we should sometimes take our minds off these things and enjoy hearty laughter.”
    Another subscriber, Miriam Njoku, a budding entrepreneur described Globacom as “a wonderful network” and said that the show presented a good avenue for her and her friends to let off stress.
    Chioma Lele, a student, said, “This evening is one of the reasons I’m happy to have chosen Globacom. Globacom wants its customers to feel good and goes to a great length to achieve this. I appreciate them for that.”
    Comedian, Frank the Don, also commended Globacom for introducing Laffta Fest, saying “Globacom is contributing its own quota to easing stress among Nigerians with the introduction of Glo Laffta Fest. Things like this help reduce the effect of the harsh economy on the populace and entertainers particularly.”
    Early attendees went home with Glo-branded gift items while some won prizes in the dance and quiz competitions. In the female category, Favour Arinze, a student, emerged the best dancer, while Umeh Adaora, a banker, was second. In the male category, Anagboso Francis was adjudged the best, with Ani Chinedu emerging the first runner-up. They also received company gifts from Globacom.
    The Glo Laffta Fest train will move to other major locations including Awka, Ikeja, Ikorodu, FESTAC, Ajah, Asaba, Calabar, Enugu, Aba, Suleja, Kubwa, FCT, Ibadan, Ijebu Ode, Abeokuta, Ekpoma, Kaduna, Akure, Lokoja, and Anyigba.
