Residents of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, last Sunday, trooped out for the Glo Laffta Fest.

Its comedy train arrived the capital city in style from Enugu.

The show, which is touring Nigeria’s major cities, was held in Yenagoa at the Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre with pomp and circumstance.

Comedians at the Yenagoa edition described it as a great home-coming and an avenue to reunite with their home fans.

Weleke Akpors Stanley, known by his stage name, ‘SimCard’; Iniedogi Pekene, popularly called ‘Barrack Pikin’ and Gift Loveday, otherwise known as Aproko, are comedians who grew up in Yenogoa before setting out to Lagos and other parts of the country to pursue a career in stand-up comedy.

Recounting his tutelage in Yenagoa, Simcard, who got a Law degree from the Niger Delta University, Amassoma, said he felt good returning home to perform.

He thanked Globacom for such the opportunity.

Simcard said: “I feel good coming to my primal base, Yenagoa, to perform. It has been awhile. Shows of this magnitude rarely happen here. It’s commendable for Globacom to remember my people.”

Barrack Pikin said the Yenogoa edition of Glo Laffta Fest would remain indelible in the minds of the people.

The comedian recalled that when he was informed that he would perform in Yenagoa, he developed jokes that would resonate and remind the people of his days in the oil-rich city.

He said: “Laffta Fest is a laudable initiative by Globacom. I mean touring the country to make people happy through jokes and inviting comedians with roots in the locations to perform is a fantastic idea. You know laughter is the best gift you can give anybody.”

Globacom’s National Sales Coordinator for Southsouth Augustine Mamuro said: “Globacom is a business enterprise, which believes strongly in empowering, rewarding and entertaining its subscribers. Comedy shows and musical concerts are some of the ways Globacom rewards its subscribers.”
