Glo League: LMC reads riot act on match fixers

    • To expel clubs that compromise result

The League Management Company (LMC) has warned that it will expel Clubs in the Glo Premier League found to have compromised existing regulations to secure favourable results.

The warning is coming as the League body says the season has approached a crucial stage where clubs are noted to desperately seek to secure results by all means and also warned that home teams that infringe on the rules face being sent to venues to be chosen by the LMC.

Chairman of the LMC, Hon. Nduka Irabor issued the warnings and stated that “we will not at this stage brook any scheming to influence the outcome of any match as such conducts that infringe on existing regulations will attract commensurate sanctions including throwing the guilty club out of the League”.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Alhaji Aminu Maigari and the Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdulahi had at the presentation of the LMC-SuperSport broadcast sponsorship deal spoken of the threat of match fixing to the on-going League reforms and made known their joint resolve to hand over culprits, especially referees to law enforcement agents for criminal prosecution.

But the LMC says it is working to guarantee the integrity of match results by taking proactive actions that will nip match-fixing.

“We will no longer order any club found guilty of certain stipulated infractions to play behind closed doors but will banish such clubs to venues to be chosen by the League body and this is still within the ambits of the regulations”, declared the LMC boss.

He then assured all clubs in the Glo League of continued fairness in the League organisation while also encouraging the referees to discharge their duties in accordance with the rules. “The referees are the first of defense in ensuring the integrity of match results and they have a sacred responsibility to report those who attempt to compromise them as we assure them of protection. This is why we will not hesitate to banish clubs that compromise security to other centers”, Irabor noted.

Oyekale hungry for Glo league action

Crown FC coach, Oladunni Oyekale, has said his side cannot postpone further their return to the Nigeria elite league.

The Ogbomoso-based side lost their top flight status at the end of the 2009/10 Glo Premier League season.

Crown FC appeared to have done very well towards achieving their lofty ambition placing second on the Nigeria National League (NNL) Division B log on 41 points same as leaders, Abia Warriors with two matches to wrap up the season.

The 2012 Federation Cup quarterfinalists will be guests of Uyo-based side, Akwa Starlets in one of NNL’s Matchday 29 encounters while they will host already demoted side, Fountain FC in the season’s last day game.

Oyekale said generation unborn will not remember the side kindly should they miss the promotion cut.

“Our sincerest prayer is to end our tenure in the lower league this term and take our rightful position in the premier league. That’s our biggest desire and we’re committing everything to ensure it becomes a reality. We have our foot there somehow, we just have to redouble our efforts to confirm the status quo.

“We’ll blame ourselves forever should we miss the promotion cut same as we expect future generation to also blame us. Standing in between us and promotion are the game at Akwa Starlets and the home game against Fountain FC.

“Football is game of chance, we’ll take our whole chance at Akwa Starlets and strive for a positive result then come back home to consolidate against Fountain FC. I’ve a hunch that promotion to the premier league will not elude us this term,” said the former Futsal Eagles coach to supersport.com.

Crown FC on Sunday in Ogbomoso pipped closest challengers, Remo Stars 1-0 in one of NNL’s Matchday 28 clashes to brighten their hope for promotion.
