The expansive homes of the late Bayelsa State Governor Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha in Yenagoa, the state capital, and his country home in Amasomma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, were deserted yesterday.

The compound of the late Ijaw chief was quiet, devoid of activities and visits expected from his kinsmen and political colleague, following his sudden demise.

Alamieyeseigha died on Saturday at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

    He was 62.

But it was gathered that his wife, Margaret, and other children were still at their home in Port Harcourt. They had not returned to the late former governor’s home at Amasomma.

Bayelsa and other Niger Delta states were thrown into mourning at the weekend, following the sudden death of the first civilian governor of the state.

Alamieyeseigha, popularly known during his administration as the Governor-General of the Niger Delta, reportedly died, after falling in a coma for about three days.

It was gathered that the former governor, who was the most popular politician in the state, died of cardiac arrest.

Alamieyeseigha was said to have developed health complications after returning from an undisclosed hospital in Dubai, the United Arab Emirate (UAE), for medical checks.

Unconfirmed reports said he could not complete his treatment in Dubai after hearing of his extradition request by the United Kingdom (UK).

The recent request by the UK to extradite Alamieyeseigha for prosecution for alleged corruption caused panic and uproar in Bayelsa State; many groups condemned it, saying the law abhorred double jeopardy.

Alamieyeseigha is said to have been survived by seven children and a wife.

But one of the children, Oyemifa, died in a controversial circumstance in Dubai a year ago, leaving five sons and a daughter.

    Compound deserted

Our correspondent, who visited the Alamieyeseighas’ compound at Opolo in Yenagoa at the weekend, said there was no sign of life in the house.

The gate was locked and nobody was around to attend to visitors.

At Amasomma, the community where Alamieyeseigha hailed from, people were going about their normal daily activities.

Most residents were not aware that the former governor, who single-handedly turned his village into a town, was dead.

His massive compound dotted with many beautiful buildings at Amasomma was also desolate.

An elderly gateman told our correspondent that the immediate family of his boss were in Port Harcourt.

“You cannot go in because there is nobody in the compound. Madam and others are in Port Harcourt. Oga died there,” said the man, who refused to mention his name.

The gateman said the late Alamieyeseigha was at home about two weeks ago – his last visit.

At the home of the late Alamieyeseigha’s stepmother, children were playing football while the old woman and other elderly women were grieving over their loss in the sitting room.

They declined to comment on the former governor’s demise.

    Bayelsa comunity’s monarch

But the acting paramount ruler of the community, Chief Sharp Sogo, said the residents were shocked by the former governor’s death.

He likened the community’s reverence for the late Alamieyeseigha to that of a god.

Sogo said: “When the sad news filtered into this community, everybody was not happy. Boys, girls, men and women cried. He was one of the best leaders we had in this community. He was just like a father and grandfather to everybody.”

The monarch said the late Alamieyeseigha had his last outing in the community when he vivited with his political associates and community leaders to plan for the December 5 governorship election.

He said the former governor was a rallying point and a voice of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which relied on him to win the election.

Sogo said: “We can’t count the values he added to this community. They are too many to mention. Without him, there couldn’t have been Amasomma. He brought the university and built the roads. Everybody took him like a god.”

The monarch said Alamieyeseigha died without fulfilling some of the promises to the community.

He said: “It was obvious he was not through with the community yet. He promised that a shore protection project would be completed and many other things would be done to further develop Amassoma. We will greatly miss him.”

Sogo said community leaders would plan a befitting burial for Alamieyeseigha, adding that the community would work with the state government.

    Burial plans

There were indications yesterday that the government was planning a state burial for the late former governor.

It was gathered that the government was planning to bury him at the Heroes’ Park, a special cemetery constructed by Governor Seriake Dickson for the interments of persons considered as heroes of Ijaw nation.

He was to be flown abroad

There were plans to fly Alamieyeseigha overseas for further treatment before he died on Saturday.

An official of the state government, who spoke in confidence, said Bayelsa State deputy governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John-Jonah (retd), was planning to fly Alamieyeseigha abroad for further treatment, after visiting the former governor at the hospital in Port Harcourt.

Jonah was said to be at Omoku, in Rivers State, for a programme when heard of the former governor’s poor health.

The deputy governor reportedly called him on phone on Friday and spoke with him at 8.15pm.

“This is a sad loss for Bayelsa and the Ijaw. Contrary to the claim that Alamieyeseigha was in coma for two days before he passed on, the deputy governor, who was at Omoku for a programme at Agip, on hearing about Alamieyeseigha’s poor health, called and spoke with him on phone at 8.15pm,” the source said.

It was learnt that Jonah directed Health Commissioner Dr. Ayibatonye Owei to stay back and monitor him.

The deputy governor was said to have later visited him at the hospital on Saturday morning before leaving for Yenagoa with an instruction that an air ambulance be put on notice for him (Aalamieyeseigha) to be flown abroad for further treatment.

“Shortly after the deputy governor arrived in Yenagoa, he received the sad news that Alamieyeseigha had passed on,” the source said.

Information and Orientation Commissioner Dan Kikile said Jonah spoke with Alamieyeseigha on phone on Friday but declined further comments.

He also said Alamieyeseigha died of complications from high blood pressure and diabetics, which affected his kidney.

“He had chronic kidney disease, which was aggravated by the sudden rise in his blood pressure and the long diabetics,” Kikile said.

Ijaw declare seven days of mourning

The umbrella organisation of the Ijaw, the Ijaw National Congress (INC) Worldwide has declared seven days of mourning, from today, for Alamieyeseigha.

During the period, Ijaw’s flag would fly at half mast, according to INC’s President Boma Obuoforibo.

In a statement yesterday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, INC noted that with Alamieyeseigha’s death, a tragedy had befallen the ethnic nationality.

The statement said: “The Ijaw nation was thrown into grief by the death of Chief Alamieyeseigha, the Governor-General of the Ijaw nation, on Saturday, October 10, at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, following a cardiac arrest.

“On behalf of the INC Worldwide, we commensurate with his wife, Margaret, the Alamieyeiseigha family of Amassoma, the Ogboin clan, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and the Government and people of Bayelsa State, on this great tragedy that has befallen the Ijaw.

“May the gentle soul of DSP Alamieyeseigha rest in peace, in the bosom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

“In honour of this great, vocal and irrepressible Pan-Ijaw nationalist, we hereby announce seven days of mourning, beginning from October 12. During this period, Ijaw’s flag will fly at half mast.”

The INC hinted that its leadership would liaise with the Alamieyeseigha family and the state government on a befitting burial for “our great leader and hero.

    PDP mourns

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed grief over the death of Alamieyeseigha.

A statement yesterday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said the party was in shock over the sudden death of the former governor.

It described the development as deeply saddening.

The statement said: “The PDP mourns the demise of this great Nigerian, who made immense contributions and sacrifices towards the unity, stability and development of his state and our dear nation, both as a military officer and a politician.

“Alamieyeseigha was a true democrat, humble leader, brilliant administrator who had extraordinary love for his people. He was an outstanding party man, who, despite his travails, remained loyal to the PDP at state and national levels to the end.

“The PDP sincerely commiserates with Governor Seriake Dickson, the Alamieyeseigha family, the Ijaw kingdom and the people of Bayelsa State and pray God to give them the fortitude to bear this great loss.”

    APC commiserates with family, Bayelsa

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condoled with the family and friends of the former governor.

In a statement yesterday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party also condoled with the Bayelsa State Government over the death of its former governor.

The party said it received the news of the former governor’s demise with great shock, considering that he was not publicly reported to have been gravely ill.

APC prayed that the family would find comfort in their moment of sadness as well as the strength to bear the loss of their loved one.

“May the soul of the departed also rest in perfect peace,” the party said.

    Atiku eulogises ex-governor

Former Vice-President and APC chieftain, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, said Alamieyeseigha was an astute politician who protected the interest of the Ijaw.

In a statement yesterday in Abuja by his media office, Atiku said he was shocked by the former governor’s death.

The Turaki Adamawa eulogised the late Alamieyeseigha for being a worthy ambassador of the Ijaw and for contributing his quota to serving the nation and the development of democracy.

He said: “No one can dispute the fact that the late Governor-General of the Ijaw, as he was fondly called, stood firm like a rock in preserving the interest of the Ijaw, and was a strong supporter of democratic governance in Nigeria.

“The news of the demise of Alamieyeseigha came to me, as with many Nigerians, as a rude shock. He was a true leader of the Ijaw and contributed his quota to the development of Bayelsa State when he was governor.

“I recall with fond memories the deep appreciation the late Alamieyeseigha had for democratic governance in Nigeria. Irrespective of the divergent opinions of Nigerians about his legacies as the governor of Bayelsa State, Alamieyeseigha died earning the respect and admiration of the people of Bayelsa State and, I dare say, the people of Ijaw land. He was a friend and a brother. Like the people of Bayelsa State, I will miss him, too.

“It was only a few days ago he visited me, wishing me well as I recovered from my leg procedure.”

Atiku prayed God to give the Alamieyeseigha family, Bayelsa State and the Ijaw the fortitude to bear the loss.

    Akpabio regrets death of  colossus

Former Akwa Ibom State governor and Senate Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio has described Alamieyeseigha’s death as the loss of a political colossus to Bayelsa, the Niger Delta and Nigeria.

In a statement by his media aide, Jackson Udom, the former governor said: “The sudden death of DSP Alamieyeseigha has robbed the Niger Delta of a committed and dedicated indigene, who was always in the forefront of the struggle for the emancipation and development of the region.”

The statement added: “I also commiserate with the immediate family of the former governor, people and government of Bayelsa State, the Ijaw nation, the PDP and Nigeria for this great loss. I pray God to grant the family and the Niger Delta the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

  • Adeboye urges Nigerians to thank God

Adeboye urges Nigerians to thank God

The General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, yesterday urged Nigerians to always praise God in spite of the current challenges in the country.

Adeboye made the plea at the dedication of Ogun Province 8 Youth Church at Orimerunmu in Mowe.

According to him, God who performs special miracles will never fail Nigerians.

He advised Nigerian to have trust in God who had the solutions to problems the nation was going through.

Adeboye said Nigerians could attain higher heights and live above fear and failures if they trusted God.

“Genuine peace and true progress come to countries that put their trust in God,’’ he said.

The Overseer said: “When the King of Kings comes in, failures, poverty sorrows, shame will be things of the past.’’

The Wife of the General Overseer, Mrs Fola Adeboye, congratulated the youths and urged them to be steadfast in God.

“It is a glorious day. I am so grateful to God to be here today.

“This church is one of the bushes i blessed, then there were only two houses in this area.

“To those who supported the dream, their dreams will not die and for those whom God used to build the church, they will prosper,’’ she said.

  • God is your husband! (4)

DEAR Reader, Since this month began, I have taught on: “How God Can Restore Your Hope,” “How You Can Give Thanks In Everything” and “Forget The Past.” As you read this week’s edition, I see God giving you a change of story in Jesus’ name! Today, I will be teaching on: Building a close relationship with God.

I want you to know that being a widow is not the end of your life; it is only a passing phase. Don’t settle at this point, for it is not your destination. During your widowhood/widower days, you can serve the Lord unreservedly, your circumstances notwithstanding. The Word of God says: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33). Serving God should be your focus, if you want to enjoy all other things life and salvation have to offer. There are many areas in which you can render service to the Lord; thus, don’t just be a bench warmer in the church.

FEED ON THE WORD OF GOD

God’s Word is spiritual food for you. If you eat your earthly food three times everyday, why do you think you can go without spiritual food for one whole day? It is dangerous. This is the period to get yourself more familiar with God by knowing Him and letting Him know you. You can always have a better acquaintance with God than you have now, by taking out time to study and meditate on His Word (the Bible and Christian literatures). As you get acquainted with the Word, you get more acquainted with the Lord. God’s Word says: For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come (1 Timothy 4:8).

    CONTINUE IN PRAYER

Without prayer there is no power. For you to be able to live out your life the way God wants, you must be a prayerful individual. The Word of God says: Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day (1 Timothy 5:5). There was a widow in the Bible called Anna; she served God with prayer and fasting. The Word of God says: And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day (Luke 2:37).

There was another widow, who kept on coming to an unjust judge until she got what she wanted because of her importunity. The Bible say: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me (Luke 18:3-5).

After being widowed, a particular lady, who was quite advanced in age, was invited to Canaanland by a member of the church. On hearing the Word of God, she was lifted out of her depression and decided to give her life to Christ. Thereafter, she forgot the pains of being a widow and her bitterness towards God.

After her conversion, she was encouraged to keep fellowshipping in church, rather than mourning. She soon discovered that it was possible to marry again. During one of the fellowship days, she met with Bishop Oyedepo and indicated her desire to re-marry. She also confessed her anxiety of not believing she would find a suitable born-again believer, who is her age. She was rebuked immediately, for her lack of faith and prayed for, that favour would locate her. She is now happily married to a caring believer and enjoying the honour that she didn’t enjoy in her first marriage!

    DEVELOP NEW SKILLS

Use your time productively in developing new skills. There are opportunities for you to develop new skills without additional financial responsibilities attached. Widowhood/widower are opportunities to discover the right purpose for living and the right career path to follow. Recently, a brother who I counselled testified saying: “Thank you for your advice that has done great things in my life. I gained admission to study Architecture at Lagos State polytechnic; it was a dream come true for me. Like what you said, it has really affected my social life and has added more colour to my testimonies. Also, it is the right course of study and career path or me”.

You cannot amount to anything in life without pursuing a purpose for living. It’s not too late; therefore, wake up and get going just like this lady shared in her testimony:

“You inspired me with a testimony of an elderly woman abroad, who despite her age, returned to school. I don’t know what others around me heard, but I heard you admonishing me. I heard you say exactly: ‘You must be formally educated.” So, I knew it was time I woke up from my sleep. I was a disappointment to my family because I got pregnant and had two sons between 1994 & 1996 instead of studying. At that time I felt ashamed because all my mates were graduates and professionals in their fields. However, your words hit me when you said, ‘I have the mind of Christ’ and so I can do all things through Christ Jesus, Who strengthens me.’ Immediately, an unusual excitement came upon me and the following day, I left for LASU.

I had always wanted to be a lawyer, so I went to find out if the Diploma in Law forms were available, while I waited for JAMB. They were not available; instead, a form titled Diploma in Theatre Arts, TV & Film production was on sale. I decided to take it, believing that God had not blessed me with only one talent. That was how the journey began. The programme came to a successful end last year, where I was even distinguished with two awards out of the ten available. In the course of the programme, I put in for JAMB and I am now studying for BA in English. Thanks a lot Mama, I acknowledged your insight in my project.” – D. E.

The first step to take if you desire to spend your widowhood/widower days wisely is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. If you desire to do so, say this prayer: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today, I am a sinner. I cannot help myself. Forgive me my sins, cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I believe You died for me and on the third day, You rose that I might be justified. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You for making me a child of God. Now, I know I am born again. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”

If you prayed this simple prayer, you are now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

Congratulations! You are now born again! All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus’ Name. Call or write, and share your testimonies with me through contact@faithoyedepo.org; OR 07026385437 and 08141320204.

  • God is your husband!(3)

HELLO Reader, I count it a rare privilege to share God’s Word with you today. I began this series by showing you how God can restore your lost hope. Last week, I told you that in everything you should give thanks because according to scriptures, God is not the cause of your problem. Today, I shall be teaching on: Forgetting the past.

Although, it may feel as though the world has come to an end, it will interest you to know that God can re-write your story. He has done it for others in the past; He will do it for you. The Word of God says: Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert (Isaiah 43:18-19). God is always in the business of doing new things. All you need to do is to forget the past, no matter how difficult it might be. Learn to forget your negative past and refuse to dress the grave. As my husband will always say, “If you don’t allow your past to be past, you will pass away with it”. That shall not be your portion in the mighty name of Jesus!’

I want you to read the testimony below; it will help you to appreciate God more and forget completely your past and unpalatable experiences:

Pastor Biodun Pasida has this testimony: His first wife passed on to glory in 1998 on her way back from a business trip in Dubai. Blessed with four wonderful children, he suddenly found himself ‘in the dark’. Though a shattering experience, Biodun remarked: “Right in the midst of the shock, I began to experience joy, and this made me to understand that Christianity is real. There was then a strong inspiration in my spirit not to murmur, grumble or complain. This was such a source of succour to my soul that I ended up preaching to every person who came to console me.

At a stage, I determined never to marry again as the well being of my children was my primary concern. I was never convinced that another woman could take care of them. I love my kids so much and I did not want anything or anyone to hurt them.

On what tape(s) or teachings that were of particular benefit to his soul during the trial, he says:

I cannot pinpoint any book that had a definite impact on my life, but the Word of faith I heard in church never allowed me to feel down. On a particular day, Bishop David Oyedepo said, ‘The devil had a plan to kill your entire family and only one of them went. Give thanks to God, because all of them did not go; and if all of them went, you are here.’

These are statements that to an ordinary person may not have meant anything but to someone like me, they were pregnant with meaning. I eventually met my new wife in church; her charming nature endeared her to me and we got married in November 2, 2002.

For men and women passing through such a challenge, Pastor Pasida has this to say: “Watch your company as only faith-filled words will heal your emotions.”

What are the things that affect your faith?

    1. What you hear: Mind what you hear. Anywhere you notice that the people there are talking negatively, leave such vicinity or turn a deaf ear to such bad news. If God says that something is good for you; believe it, say it and stand by it; don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.
    2. What you read: Stuff

    your mind with only

    Positive reports and stop

    Reading negative

    materials. Don’t live

    your life by what others

    write.

Instead, let only the Word of

God be your guide. Fill your

heart by the more sure Word

of prophecy – the Bible (2

    Peter 1: 19-21).

3.The friends you keep: Keep away from bad

    friends. An

associate that does not lift up

    but complains and murmurs

all the time, is a trap for you.

The Bible says that the companion of fools

shall be destroyed (Proverbs 13:20). You will

not destroy your destiny in Jesus name!

However, you need to give your life to Christ to have a new beginning. If you are ready to give your life to do so, you can say this prayer: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today, I am a sinner.

  • God is your husband!(2)

DEAR Reader,You are welcome to another wonderful time in God’s presence. I believe you were mightily blessed last week. As you pay attention to God’s Word, believe God for a miracle in your life and you shall have a testimony!

Last week, I began this teaching by looking at a topic: There is hope for you. I said in that teaching that God is not through with you yet, and we saw the testimony of that woman, whom God restored her hope, joy and happiness. You are the next person to share your own testimony. Today, I want to talk on a topic: In Everything, Give Thanks.

The only way God can intervene in your situation is if you would be thankful to Him. Remember, God is not the cause of your problem(s). The Word of God says: In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Therefore, in every situation you find yourself, give thanks to God. By so doing, you invoke His presence and concerning God’s presence the Word of God says: Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob; Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters (Psalm 114:7). Therefore, always maintain an attitude of thanksgiving unto God for He is the one that can solve all your problems. Also, it is important for you to know that God is the reason you are still breathing.  The Bible says: Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord (Psalm 150:6). As long as you have the breath of God in you, you owe Him thanks. For you to be alive, you have every reason to praise God. The Word of God says: I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together (Psalm 34:1-3).

No matter your condition or circumstance, ensure that you give God praise! This is because God knows your situation and when you praise Him, He steps in and makes you to walk upon your high places. Furthermore, the Word of God says: Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments (Habakkuk 3:17-19).

Be joyful no matter the situation. Remember, the Word of God says: Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation (Isaiah 12:3). There are so many things stored up for you in the wells of salvation. However, without joy in your heart, you can’t access them. I want you to take time to read the testimony below; it will further boost your faith and hope in God.

“I married my first wife on August 20, 1988 and the union was blessed with two children. However, on April 18, 2000, as she delivered our third child, my wife developed Pregnancy Induced Hypertension. This led to her passing on to glory. Though the news hit me like a thunderbolt, and I was shocked to the bones, the Holy Ghost inspired me to write, there and then, 10 reasons to give God thanks, even in that situation and I obeyed.

During the home-going of my mother in 1981, the Holy Ghost dropped a verse of scripture in my mind. He spoke distinctly that fateful day saying: All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). This was the verse that kept my hope alive all through that trial. But, in spite of encouraging words from everyone, I would not say that my late wife’s departure did not hurt. At the time she passed on to glory, I felt it would not be necessary to remarry, bearing in mind that we had been married for almost twenty years. As a result, I deemed marrying another person virtually impossible. But, the more I pondered on the issue of remarriage, the more the Holy Ghost assured me that He would see me through.

Though friends tried to introduce eligible spinsters to me, I waited strictly on the Holy Ghost until He gave me the go-ahead to propose to another sister in church. At this point in time, my emotions had been healed, and God assured me time and again that my late wife was resting in glory. By the time I finally asked for my new wife’s hand in marriage, she consented and we were gloriously married in August 31, 2002. While my children settled down in their new home, my wife and I are enjoying perpetual honeymoon. God is no doubt a restorer of years”. – Alade O.

I see God giving you your own testimony in the name of Jesus! However, it is important to know that the restoration of your life begins when you surrender your life to Christ. This is because only Christ can restore all you have lost. You can say this prayer in faith, if you desire to do so: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today, I am a sinner. I cannot help myself. Forgive me my sins, cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I believe You died for me and on the third day, You rose that I might be justified. • God is your husband!

HELLO reader, It’s a great pleasure for me to bring you God’s Word today. All through this month, I shall be teaching on, God is Your Husband. This week, I shall be exploring the topic: There is hope for you.

Probably, you may be wondering as a widow, “Is there still hope for me?” I am glad to let you know that there is still hope for you. God is not through with you yet. He is a God of restoration! If you are a widow, there is hope for you in Christ Jesus. The Word of God says: For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease (Job 14:7). I want you to know that God has not forgotten you, He created you in the first place and He cannot mismanage your life.

The Word of God says: But Zion said, The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me (Isaiah 49:14-16). I am glad to let you know that God has not forgotten you. This month, the Lord shall remember you!

Widowhood is a very painful experience! No one wants to think about it, let alone read an article about it. One may have felt forcefully stripped of the honour, pleasure and joy of marriage. However, God Who is a Restorer can restore any honour lost. Not only can God restore such honour, He is willing and can do so right now. However, I want you to know that no matter the torments and pain you might have experienced, God is always right! As you read the testimony below, I see God changing your situation!

This is a testimony every widow looking forward to restoration must read: “Mrs. Remi O. Paseda, a teacher by profession, saw her first husband pass on to glory on October 9, 1993 after a brutal armed robbery attack. She got married in 1991 at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Ijebu Ijesha, Osun State and their union was blessed with a son. At the news of the passing away of her husband, she was thrown into a state of disarray; it was a tough bone for her to swallow. Though she was often beclouded by fear and depression, Mrs. Remi enjoyed regular inspiration from friends who stock closer than a brother. In her words, she said, “I knew I needed help which I could not give myself, so I started talking to brethren around me. Some would come to my house and we would pray, and worship God together. I also made it a point of duty never to miss church services.

I can never forget a statement the servant of God, Bishop David Oyedepo made during one of the services. He said, ‘If you have lost anything, God is the reason you have not lost everything. He is always right. If you don’t allow your past to be past, you will pass away with it.’ These sayings really got to me and it dawned on me strongly that I had a reason to thank God. I then made it a point of duty to appreciate the Lord for what I had left. I thanked God for my son and many a time, I would list reasons why I must praise Him. Bearing in mind that my child was very young at the time, I decided not to remarry immediately. I felt I owed God an obligation to take proper care of him so that he would not feel rejected. However, I was very sure that I would remarry one day. Miraculously, God in His faithfulness granted my heart desire and I remarried in November 2, 2002.”

This is her advice to those, who are currently passing through such trial: “You may feel like God has abandoned you, but you must realize at all times that God is God. No matter what you are facing, the more you ruminate on the truth, the faster your emotions will heal. At a stage, I would think about my late husband and smile. I decided to forget about him as I know that he has gone to be with the Lord. When you hold on to God’s Word, He always shows Himself faithful.”

It is appropriate to mention at this point that remarriage is in line with God’s Word, if a widow so desires. This is because scripturally, every widow is permitted to remarry. However, you can only marry a born again child of God. Remember the Word of God says: The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord (1 Corinthians 7:39). I am glad to let you know that you are the next in line for a miracle. The God Who did it for that sister will surely visit you.

I also want you to know that there is hope in the Word of God. This is because God’s Word (The Bible) is a book of hope. The Bible says: Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope (Psalm 119:49). Also, in Psalm 119:81, the Word of God says: My soul fainteth for thy salvation: but I hope in thy word. Furthermore, the Bible says in Psalm 119:114: Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word. There is hope for you because you are joined to the living! Again, the Bible says: For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion (Ecclesiastes 9:4).

God is the only source of hope and knowing Him will bring restoration to your life. Do you want to be born again so that you will have a new life altogether? If your answer is, “yes,” please say this prayer of faith: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today, I am a sinner.

  • Seek face of God, Kumuyi tells Tarabans

Seek face of God, Kumuyi tells Tarabans

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, on Friday urged the people of Taraba State to seek the face of God for their deliverance from insecurity.

In a sermon at a special crusade in Jalingo, Kumuyi assured the people that God was set to bring them out of their ‘Red Sea’ to the Promised Land of abundance if they surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ.

He said that there was assurance of salvation, healing, deliverance and provisions for all those who sincerely sought the Lord.

Kumuyi said that God always opens the door to those that knock and seek Him.

“If you have Jesus, you have more than a man; this is the day of your healing, salvation and deliverance. If a sinner agrees with the Lord, he will be saved.

“If the sick person agrees with the Lord, he will be healed and if the oppressed person agrees with the Lord, he will be delivered,” he said

The crusade featured special music presentations and praise worship led by music legend, Panam Percy Paul and his team.

Among the dignitaries that attended the crusade were former Gov. Jolly Nyame and the Secretary to Taraba Government, Mr Anthony Jellason.

Similar crusades were also held in Zing and Bali, with the theme “Total Recovery and Restoration”.

According to the organisers, the crusades weres aimed at bringing the message of redemption, restoration and total recovery to the people, especially in the face of security challenges in the northeast region.

  • Nigerians urged to trust God for restoration

Nigerians were told yesterday that the country’s old glory will be restored if they believe in God “and work hard to ensure that selfish interest is substituted for national interest”.

Senior Superintendent Gabriel F. Akinadewo (Omo Jesu II)of Motailatu Church Cherubim and Seraphim Worldwide gave the advice during a special sermon to mark the church’s 51st founder’s anniversary.

The church was founded by Archbishop Isaiah M. Akinadewo on June 14, 1964.

The anniversary was celebrated with special thanksgiving in all parishes of the church, including the international headquarters in Ondo, Ondo State.

Speaking at the Restoration Parish of the church in Akute, Ogun State, Akinadewo said: “Nothing is too hard for the Lord, the God of all flesh to do. If and when Nigerians change from their evil ways, Nigeria will, once again, become the darling of all in the comity of nations”.

Quoting Jeremiah 17:5, the cleric said that Nigerians, for decades, had put their hope in human beings “and they have been disappointed. For this country to grow financially, spiritually, economically, politically and industrially, we must start to put our hope in God and, at the same time, do the right thing.

“According to Jeremiah 29:11, God has good plans for this country and its people but Nigerians are their own problems by deviating from God’s plans because of selfish interests. With the natural resources that abound in the country, there is enough for all Nigerians. Let us commit our ways unto God, trust Him and He shall bring His plans for us to pass.

“Nigerians are prayerful. In every street, you will see one, two or three churches. But it is not only the truth we know that will set this country free but the truth we do. We know the right thing to do and once this is done by removing selfishness from our thinking, God will move mightily to restore the old glory of this country”.

  • ‘God gave my husband victory’

The wife of Oyo State Governor ,Mrs Florence Ajimobi, has said God helped her husband break the second term jinx.

Mrs. Ajimobi spoke at the Women Intercessory Network (WIN) prayer programme at the Government House Arcade, Agodi, Ibadan.

She said: “I was scared of federal might and the way they were going around using money to influence the electorate.

“I knew we couldn’t match them because Ajimobi doesn’t have the money but God was with him.

“If you remember when we had our programme in January, I stood before God and said if we win by God’s grace that I will testify.

“The road was tough and I nearly lost my faith, but I committed everything to God.

“God did not allow the enemies to mock us. The governor is here to serve humanity and that is why God has given him the second term victory. “

  • ‘I will rule with the fear of God’

Abia State governor Victor Ikpeazu has promised to rule with the fear of God.

Ikpeazu spoke at a thanksgiving service at the Seventh Day Adventist Church Headquarters for Eastern Union Conference, Osisioma, Abia State. He said he was at the service to thank God for making him the governor, present his plans for the state before Him and seek His guidance.

Ikpeazu said he would resume work in Aba, the state’s commercial nerve centre today and embark on on the spot assessment of roads before proceeding to Umuahia, the capital to replicate same tomorrow.

The governor sought the cooperation of the people, especially through prayers, for the success of his administration.

“I want God to make Abians understand that if you want to eat Omelet, you must be ready to crack eggs. I thank God that I am courageous enough to take these decisions, God being with me. I will serve Abia and   Nigerians with the fear of God.

“I will also take decisions that may not be very palatable, but let the guiding principle be, ‘is it in the best interest of the greater majority of our people?

“We have travelled long on the wrong path, probably by events not caused by governments but caused by our people. But this is the time to turn around because this is not going to be business as usual.

“We must change the way we think, the way we do things, the way we build our houses, we must have respect for our neighbor because in doing so, we will be more responsible. The things that we see abroad can be done here and it must start in our hearts”, he said.

In his homily, Pastor Udoh Bassey warned Ikpeazu against displeasing God. He assured him of God’s presence and guidance in all that he does if he places God first.

“You need great wisdom to be safe in whatever you do. If God gives you money and you do not have the wisdom to manage it, you will soon die. If God gives you beauty and you do not have the wisdom to manage it, you will soon die.

“If God gives you a position and you do not have the wisdom to manage it, you will soon die, so be careful what you do” Bassey warned.
