  • Godliness: God’s condition for greatness (4)

Merry Christmas to you and your family in the name of Jesus Christ! We give glory to God for the privilege of seeing another Christmas; it shall be a day of rejoicing, laughter and blessings for every one of us in the name of Jesus Christ!

Since we began this four-part teaching, we have established that scriptural greatness has its root in holiness that is powered by the Holy Ghost. We also discover that our greatest battles in life are against the spirit of the world, which includes: the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life. Furthermore, we discover that without the ministry of the Holy Spirit, we cannot overcome these spiritual forces.

But, how does the Holy Spirit do this?

It is written: But who may abide the day of his coming? And who shall stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness. Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years. And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the Lord of hosts (Malachi 3:2-5).

    • As the Refiner’s Fire: He burns away every chaff of sin in us. This is because His job is to purify and refine us to be fit for God’s use. The Holy Spirit is available to all that truly desire and demand His empowerment. Therefore, it is time to hunger and thirst after Him in order to live holy lives (Matthew 3:11-12; Luke 11:13).
    • As God’s fuller Soap: He is the highest quality soap that is able to remove any stain of sin from our lives.

    Blessings of the Overcomer

When we have constant fellowship with the Holy Spirit, we become overcomers in the fight against the forces of darkness, and the following are the blessings that accrue to us:

    • Prosperity (Psalms 112:1-3).
    • Answers to prayers (Job 42:8).
    • Divine health (John 5:14).
    • Protection (Psalms 91:1-2; Psalms 15:1-4).
    • We enjoy a heaven on earth lifestyle (Revelation 2:7; Romans 10:6-10).
    • Only overcomers will make heaven and receive the crowns of life (Revelation 2:11; 3:5, 21).
    • God empowers us for dominion over nations on earth (Revelation 2:26).
    • God sets us as pillars in His house (Revelation 3:12; Galatians 2:9).

Everything about our destiny both in this time and eternity has to do with our sanctification. It is not enough to be sanctified, we must stay sanctified. As we all know, once sanctified is not always sanctified (1 Corinthians 10:12).

Some time ago, God gave me this Word for His people: “Strive to please Me and I will take you to the next level in your business and career. Purge yourself and I will change your level. Stay clean and you won’t stop flying.” As we obey this instruction, God will break protocol for us and change our level from glory to glory in the name of Jesus Christ! You are blessed!

Are you born again? If you haven’t accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord, you can do so as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!” For further reading, please get my books: Walking in the Newness of Life, Overcoming the Forces of Wickedness, Walking in Dominion, Conquering Controlling Powers, Winning Invisible Battles and Force of Freedom.

  • Godliness: God’s condition for greatness (3)

Previously on this column, we discovered that greatness is one of our redemptive rights in Christ Jesus, but without godliness we cannot access same. Furthermore, we understood that our greatest battles in life are against the spirit of the world. As such, we cannot overcome the forces of sin without engaging the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Again, from scriptures, we understand that the spirit of the world manifests as: the lust of the eyes: wanting everything at any cost; the lust of the flesh: sexual perversion of all kinds, and the pride of life: a destroyer of destiny (1 Corinthians 2:12; 1 Corinthians 3:17; 1 John 2:15-17). As we begin this week’s edition, let’s examine some Bible characters, who became victims of these manipulations.

    • Achan: He was caught with the goodly Babylonian garment and a wedge of gold. Though he confessed and repented, it was too late. The Bible says that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us; but it was too late for Achan. I pray that it will not be too late for you to repent from that sin in the name of Jesus! (Joshua 7:20-21 &25).
    • Judas: This man already had his name written in the Book Of Life but satan got him (Luke 22:3). In Matthew 27:3-5, he also repented but it was too late.
    • Solomon: He loved God so much that God came from heaven in response to his offering (1 Kings 3:3-5). But in 1 Kings 11:1, the Bible says: ‘…Solomon loved many strange women.’ You will agree with me that it would take some level of demonic influence to have 700 wives and 300 concubines. That was why Solomon ended his journey in vanity (1 Kings 11:1-4; Ecclesiastes 1:1-2).
    • Samson: Samson was a one-man winning army but when he went after Delilah, he ended up in horror and his eyes were plucked out. Thereafter, he became a toy in the hands of the people he had once conquered. God will always forgive us for anything, if our repentance is not late (Judges 16:1-31; Isaiah 55:6).

How to overcome the spirit of this world

It is important to know that we cannot overcome the spirit of the world without engaging the Spirit of God. This is because the Spirit of God, which is also the Spirit of Holiness, is the only cure for the filthiness of the spirit and the flesh. As it is written: Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead (Romans 1:4). From the above scripture, it is clear that Jesus needed the Spirit of Holiness to operate in the Spirit and not in the flesh, all through His ministry on earth. Therefore, if we must overcome the spirit of the world, we must engage the ministry of the Holy Spirit, Who is only accessible to those who are born again. Now I know I am born again!”

  • Godliness: God’s condition for greatness (2)

Godliness: God’s condition for greatness (2)

Last week, we discover that every child of God is ordained for “trans-generational” and a global greatness after the order of Abraham (Genesis 12:1-3).
We, also, established that Paul’s greatness was a product of God’s grace, which is anchored on holiness. This implies that wherever sin thrives, grace is absent (Romans 6:1-2; 1 Corinthians 15:10).
In this week’s teaching, we shall be looking at how demonic agents orchestrate the fall of men from grace. It is written: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled. Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears (Hebrews 12:15-17). That means we can drop off the flow of His grace; and it is a disconnection from His grace that results in disgrace.
Let’s examine how demonic agents orchestrate the fall of men from grace.
First, we must understand that our greatest battles in life are against the spirit of the world. The Bible says: Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God (1 Corinthians 2:12). The spirit of the world is the engine room for worldliness, and that is the exact opposite of godliness. This is because we cannot be worldly and godly at the same time; it is like darkness and light.
Furthermore, the above scripture gives a vivid definition to the spirits identified in the following verses: Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever (1 John 2:15-17). Therefore, we must overcome the spirit of the world in order to abide in God forever and walk in the greatness He has ordained for us. Again, we discover from this scripture that the spirit of this world operates through three main channels:
    • The lust of the eyes: wanting everything at any cost.
    • The lust of the flesh: sexual perversion of all kinds.
    • The pride of life: a destroyer of destiny, for pride goeth before destruction (Proverbs 16:18). The Bibles also says, If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are (1 Corinthians 3:17).
In addition, it is important to know that only born again children of God can overcome the spirit of the world through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Now I know I am born again!”

  • Godliness aids academic excellence, says don

Godliness with strong academic exposure is guaranteed to take Christian students to the top.

This was the submission of former vice-chancellor Redeemers University, Professor OyewaleTomori at the 25th valedictory service of the Christ The Redeemer’s College Christ Hill (CRC) Sagamu Ogun State.

Tomori, who was the guest speaker, described the Abundant hope 2016 set as spiritual assets prepared for higher academic pursuits.

He explained that the name of the set was chosen with serious thoughtfulness and sensitivity considering the state of the nation.

According to him: “Only spiritual formation and good character will take you beyond your certificate.

“We need abundant hope in these present times in the history of our country; our country is a nation perpetually at periphery of greatness.

“We are a nation blessed with human and natural resources needed to make us a great country.”

He noted that seeing the young ones, winning prizes and awards in technology, auto mechanics, drawing, painting, catering and craft and a lot of other basic subjects, shows that there was a blend of education and skills acquisition in the college.

He said that the kind of exposure in the college would help the graduands as they move higher in their educational pursuits.

He advised them to hold on to God and set their priority right as they embark on higher educational pursuit.

The principal, Pastor (Mrs.) AntointteOmo-Osagie, encouraged the graduands to always remember service to humanity is their mandate.

She said: “The school has equipped the graduands morally, academically and spiritually to strive for excellence in everything they do.

“We have expanded their horizons beyond the academic and molded them through a wide range of entrepreneur programmes and experience to make them become leaders in a dynamic world.”

Chairman board of Governor of the school, Pastor Adebayo Adeyemo, who described the set as fantastic owing to their   numerous academic and extracurricular awards said they will drive the nation’s economy in no time.

The outgoing Council president, Onoh Chukwuemeka, said “It has been an enriching and memorable journey of six years.

“I had the privilege to be the council president of this college. It was indeed a moment to learn principles of leadership.”

  • Godliness: God’s condition for greatness

From scriptural references, we understand that greatness is one of our redemptive rights in Christ Jesus. For instance, when an angel visited Mary to tell her of the virgin birth of Jesus, he said: And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David (Luke 1:31-32).

Thereafter, Jesus said, “As my Father has sent me, even so send I you(John 20:21). This means that, we are sent after the order of Christ and as such, we are ordained to be great. Again, the Bible makes us to know that we have the greatness Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) of Christ in our system because He was not ashamed to call you brethren (Hebrews 2:11).

Furthermore, we discovered from scriptures that we also have a heritage of greatness in Abraham through redemption. As it is written:  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith (Galatians 3: 13-14; see also Deuteronomy 28:24- 66).

This implies that Christ redeemed us from the Curse of the Law, that the blessings of greatness which was upon Abraham might become ours.

How great is this Abrahamic order of Greatness?

The Bible says: Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessin:  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed (Genesis 12:1-3).

From the above scripture, we understand that the Abrahamic order of greatness is a “trans-generational” and a global one. This implies that via redemption, we are ordained for trans-generational” and global greatness, on earth. However, it is important to know that there are no provisions in scriptures without conditions attached to it. Until we meet those conditions, we are not entitled to the provisions therein and scriptural greatness is no exception. For instance, at the root of Job’s greatness was godliness. As it is written:  And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? (Job 1:8).

From scriptures, we saw Job as an upright business man and God testified to that. Even his wife testified to it (Job 2:9).  This helps us to understand that godliness is one condition that must be met before sustainable and ever growing greatness can be attained. Our lives can never blossom beyond God’s rating of our godliness.

Also, we discovered from scriptures that the greatness of Paul was anchored on grace. Remember, in his first letter to the Church in Corinthians, he said, “I am what I am by the grace of God” (1 Corinthians 15:10). Thus, it is grace that makes great and the Bible says: What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? (Romans 6:1-2). Wherever sin thrives, grace is disconnected. That means if we don’t quit sin, it will stop our greatness.

Furthermore, the Bible helps us to know that anyone can fail in God’s Grace.

As it is written: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.

    1. The lust of the eyes: wanting everything at any cost.
    2. The lust of the flesh: sexual perversion of all kinds.

III. The pride of life: a destroyer of destiny, for pride goeth before destruction (Proverbs 16:18).

Are you born again? Your permanent fan,

    Mr.G.Adebambo

    Great, great people of God,

This is the year the lord has made for you and I, we shall shine, rejoice and be glad in it. There is none like unto our God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in our help, and in his excellency on the sky. He is an amazing God! He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; that he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people. What a priceless gem!

This time last year, I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d be used on the pages of newspapers by God to impact lives. However, it was a period when I had developed a consecrated and holy life and gotten to the point where I carried a heavy presence of God and could hear from Him. It was also a time when I had to meditate so much on how to scale through one of life’s vicissitudes! However, in spite the brooding which usually crept in whenever I allowed it, the spirit of God suppressed the gloom in my troubled soul and instead powered my imagination. Imagination is very powerful and once it is incubated by the Holy Spirit, it becomes inspired by God and you get uncommon results.

As a teenager, I wanted to please my late dad at some point and practically sweep him off his feet and make him proud of me so I decided to write my debut book for girls. Because of the way I was celebrated even when I didn’t set out for all the attention I got, I developed a Joseph’s dream to be a household name and be popular with Nigerian girls. However, that dream never materialized as it was taken over by other things. I thereafter founded an NGO to influence the lives of girls positively in my own little way but I could comfortably say nothing much happened until I woke up early March last year and imagined myself featuring weekly and contributing to the lives of girls in different newspapers. If anyone told me I could write so much, with different contents in different newspapers and be so celebrated by you my wonderful fans, I would have sworn it could never happen. You’d recall I always say there’s nothing special about me and that I am just a human being like you who has a seed of greatness planted in him. The only difference is that I yielded my spirit to God and allowed Him take absolute charge of my life and because He said He has created us for His glory, I just must manifest His glory. And that is why He can enable me write in my mind even when I am in the middle of a conversation. It’s so amazing! I tell you, sometimes, I don’t know where what I write comes from. Even when I am not in the perfect frame of mind, when it is time to write, the Holy Spirit carries me on its wings! There’s still so much I have not shared on the pages of these newspapers that could take many years. And you will agree with me that the more I carry God, the more He increases my wisdom, knowledge, understanding and ability to write till eternity! This to me is one of the mysteries of godliness. Do you know you can do better? There is a treasure in you which only the light of God can unearth. Life is a mission. You are here on an assignment. There is no true life until you find out who you are. Do you know who you are? In the divine agenda for your life, do you know where you are?

Your success in life can be determined by the power of your imagination. If you are ruggedly determined, no power can stop you! Embrace God with all your heart this year and let His power ignite your imagination and make you a trail-blazer in the world that was created by your father in heaven. School on Sunday resumes next week. May God bless you all and make you VERY GREAT!

  • How to practise Godliness in your home (4)

Dear Reader, compliments of the season to you, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ! I hope you did enjoy your Christmas?  Today, by the special grace of God, I will be sharing with you another aspect of practising godliness that makes for a successful marital life – Companionship.  Companionship is the relationship between friends, who share similar tastes, interest and views.

If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, and yet your closest friends are not, it’s very likely that your spiritual growth will be hindered. The Word of God says: Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners (1 Corinthians 15:33).

A man doesn’t have to be foolish in himself to be destroyed.  All he needs to do is to walk with the foolish and soon, the folly of his friend rubs off on him and he is destroyed the same way a foolish man would. You shall not be destroyed in Jesus’ name!   Walking with a foolish man is as bad as being foolish.  The Word of God says: He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed (Proverbs 13:20).

It is clear from the above Scripture that the company a man keeps can either make or mar you; it doesn’t leave him the same.  A wise man once said, “You will remain what you are today in five years time, except for the books you read and the company you keep”. It is impossible to amount to anything outside the company you keep. The major cause of crisis and problems in some home today, is wrong association.  Family members keep wrong company, receiving counsel from people that stir up trouble always in their homes.  The Word of God says:   Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night (Psalm 1:1-2).

Who is a friend? A friend is someone with whom you and your family relate intimately.  He is someone you identify with, share common experience with and bare your mind to.  This simple definition of a friend shows that not everybody is a friend.  So, you need to always use the Word of God in selecting who should be your friend. I believe strongly in an adage that says, “Show me your friend, and I will show you who you are.” It has a scriptural antecedent.  The Word of God says: Can two walk together, except they be agreed?  (Amos 3:3).

Your friend is a reflection of you.  A wrong association will affect you negatively.  It will make you do things that you may ordinarily never do on your own.  You must detach yourself from any child of Belial.  Anyone that constantly provokes your spirit and gives you wrong counsel against your wife, husband or family well-being will destroy your home.

Who is your family friend?  You cannot be a Christian and your family friend will be an unbeliever or a Muslim.  What companionship are you forming with an unbeliever?  Anyone who is lacking in Christian character should never be your family friend.  You must obey the command in 2 Thessalonians 3:6, which says: ….Withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly…

So many call themselves family friends, but they have not disciplined themselves, to refrain from certain habits.  I believe that the choice of your family friend does not only affect what the future of your marital life will be, but it could also determine the success or failure of your marriage.  Hence, your family’s vision, goal or target in life should determine your choice of family friends.

As a believer who desires to live a godly life, you must make up your mind to dissociate yourself from every friend that thinks or talks contrary to the Word of God.  May God bring you in contact with friends that will help you and your family to your place in destiny.  May you never keep company that will keep you away from God.

The type of company you keep will either make or break your marriage.  It was a friend that made Ammon, David’s son to commit incest (2 Samuel 13:1-4).  He later paid for the wrong company he kept with his life. Most couples, who find themselves in all forms of evil today, got into them via wrong company.  One major reason why couples are enticed to join wrong company is because they are not bold enough to identify with the Lord Jesus Christ. Let people know your stand for God.  When we sincerely want to have godly companions, the Lord will bring them across our paths in amazing ways.

In case you don’t know whom to pick as your family friend, ask God in prayer and He will give you direction.  Disallow your spouse, children from keeping wrong company.  This is because the effect of the company you keep will sooner or later affect your marriage and family.

I want to introduce to you a true friend today; Jesus Christ is that friend.  The Word of God says: There is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24).

If you are not born again and you want to do so today, you can say the following prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today.  I am a sinner.  Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood.  Deliver me from sin and Satan to serve the living God.  I accept You as my Lord and Saviour.  Make me a child of God today.  Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

On Thursday being January 1, 2015, people all over the world will be celebrating the New Year.  I know you are set to usher in the New Year.  It is not a time for you to get drunk! Before then, you should be able to take stock and make a resolution to obey and serve God with ALL your heart.  I wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  • How to practise Godliness in your home (2)

Dear Reader, compliments of the season! It is a great joy to share God’s Word with you, one more time on this column.  Last week, I shared with you the place of parents in practising godliness in the home.  This week, I want to talk about Unforgiveness.

Forgiveness simply means to decide not to punish someone for a wrong or to cancel debts owed.  Forgiveness is the character trait of God.  He is all-forgiving. The Word of God says: To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him (Daniel 9:9).

Ever since the first man, Adam, man has lived in rebellion against the Almighty God.  Yet, because of His mercies, God has always pardoned our iniquities, the ultimate being the price paid at Calvary: Jesus Himself was nailed to the cross, not for anything He did, but for our sins.  The Word of God says: … Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do… (Luke 23:34).

I believe that aside from forgiveness coming out of His merciful nature, the sacrificial death of Jesus also made Him to forgive.  He looks back at the cross and remembers how much Jesus suffered for our iniquities; He sees the shed blood and it moves Him to forgive. If we are to forgive one another, then we must be prepared to exercise patience because God is not through with working on us as individuals.  The Word of God says: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you (Ephesians 4:32, 5:1).

Unforgiveness is one major problem in many families today.  It causes couples and other members of the family to hold on to issues, offences, misunderstandings and various hurts of the past; before long, there is a rift which tears the family apart. That shall not be your portion in Jesus’ name!

Don’t carry a mentality of offence against God or people; if you do that, it will surely affect your character.  Don’t get offended in God, if you do, tell me who will help you?  God is your Helper.  Never you question God why some things were allowed to happen to you.  Forgive yourself and your fellow men.  Don’t carry hatred and bitterness around.  Whatever anyone has done to you is past and gone.  The Word of God says: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before (Philippians 3:13). The reason why so many people find it difficult to forgive their fellow men, is that they hardly forget what that fellow has done to them.  They carry all the hurts of the past in their minds thereby hurting themselves.

If you want to practise godliness, you must learn to forgive.  Unforgiveness has caused a lot of trouble in families today.  In most cases, it is the hidden factor behind separation and divorce.  It is refusing to pardon something one’s spouse or any member of your family has done. Below is a testimony that proves that forgiveness is very important.

“Today marks three years since I started attending this church.  What brought me here was my spiritual lack, not material lack.  I was born again five years, before I came here and was attending a living church.

Since I started worshipping here, God has given me the spirit of understanding in the Word of God, and my faith has been on the increase.  Most importantly, there has been captivity turnaround in my life, particularly in my marriage.  My marriage technically broke down on the wedding day, at the reception table! But I stayed on it for almost a decade.  It was a thorn in the flesh.  Eventually, I had to leave.  Right inside my matrimonial home, I got a SAN to prosecute the divorce.

I got born again after then, but the Word never came to me until I got to this church.  There was a teaching on forgiveness one day, which made me realize that I had been living in self-righteousness all along.  I forgive, but don’t forget.  I got this corrected in my mind and through the anointed book, Marriage Covenant, anointed preaching of the men of God and anointed counselling, my marriage got miraculously healed and right now, I’m having a honeymoon.” – Olaleye

Has someone offended you? Why not let him or her go? It may be the reason why you are still where you are right now.  I liken unforgiveness in families to cancer.  I call it family cancer.  Just as cancer eats up the body, many families have been eaten up and torn apart by unforgiveness.

It is a medical fact that when you are angry, bitter or live in unforgiveness, your body system is set at an imbalance which ultimately destroys your health.  A researcher is quoted as saying that one minute of depression suppresses your immune system by six hours, whereas one minute of laughter boosts your immune system by twenty-four hours.  So, take heed to God’s Word and learn to destroy every root of bitterness and offence, before it gets a chance to destroy you.  You will not be destroyed in Jesus’ name!

Are you born again? If your answer is ‘No’, why not ask God for forgiveness of your sins, repent and make Jesus Christ your Lord and personal Saviour today.   If you are ready to be born again, please say this prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today.  I am a sinner.  I cannot help myself.  Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood.  Deliver me from sin and Satan to serve the living God.  I believe You died for me and on the third day, You rose that I might be justified.  I accept You as my Lord and Saviour.  Make me a child of God today.  Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

  • How to practise Godliness in your home

Dear Reader, compliments of the season to you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ! I welcome you to this power-packed teaching for the month of December, which is our month of celebration. I pray that as you celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, celebration will never end in your life, marriage and home in Jesus’ name.

This great month, I shall be discussing How to Practise Godliness in Your Home.  This week, I want to start by explaining The Place of Godly Parents.

In the sixth chapter of Deuteronomy, Moses through inspiration gave us a description of a godly home in verses 4-18. As the children of Israel prepared to enter the land of Canaan, one key ingredient necessary for their success was a stable, God-fearing home.

The place of godly parents in practising godliness in the home can never be ruled out. I want you to know that God is seeking daily for godly seed.  The major reason why God makes husband and wife one spirit and flesh, is because their union is supposed to produce godly seeds.  Although it is true that God commanded man to multiply and replenish the earth, His cardinal reason for child-bearing is to raise up godly seeds unto Himself.   The Word of God says: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).

From the above scripture, it is quite clear that there is a way each child should go, and it is the duty of parents to locate and train them in it.  When they do, they will not depart from that way when they are old.The many atrocities in our world today are a direct result of improper child’s training.  Drug addicts, armed robbers and fraudsters are all from families, as no one dropped from the sky.  However, because their foundation was faulty, they become the dregs of the society.  In the light of this, Christian parents must leave a good legacy behind for their children.  There is nothing that can be compared with a good upbringing!

Jesus Christ, as our perfect example, had excellent results in ministry because of His excellent upbringing.  The influence of both Joseph and Mary really went a long way in His life and ministry.  They were responsible parents.  The Word of God says: And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart (Luke 2:51). The fact that Jesus was subject unto His parents shows that they did a good job in training Him, else Jesus would have rebelled or objected to their ungodly training. Nothing happens by chance.  If you sow good seeds by training your children well today, they will reciprocate later in life.  May your children be able to remember you for good tomorrow and call you blessed!

    Characteristics of a Godly home

A Godly home is a home that Hears God:  One of the characteristics of a godly home is that a godly home hears God. In Deuteronomy 6:4, Moses said: Hear O Israel. The Lord our God is one God. A godly home hears the Word of God.  In practising godliness, you must ensure that your family members hear God, by commanding them to follow after God.  The Word of God says: For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him (Genesis 18:19).

A Godly home is a home that Loves God:  We are commanded to love the Lord with all our heart, soul and strength (Deuteronomy 6:5). Jesus called this the first and greatest commandment (Mark 12:30). Loving God is obeying God (John 14:15). A true love for God will result in a true love for one another within the home.

A Godly home is a home that Teaches the Word of God:  A godly home is a home where the Word of God is being taught. The Word of God says: And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children (Isaiah 54:13). In Deuteronomy 6:9, Moses admonished Israel to commit the Word to their hearts, to teach their children diligently and to write the commands of God. It was a lack of knowledge of God’s Word that would later lead the Israelites into captivity (Hosea 4:6).

In order to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, parents must begin to teach their children at an early age (Ephesians 6:4). The Psalmist in Psalm 119:11, urges us to hide the Word in our hearts that we might not sin against God.

A Godly home is a home that Obeys God Faithfully: In Deuteronomy 10-18, Moses cautioned Israel against disobedience. God wants His people to do what is right and good in His sight (Deuteronomy 6:18). Jesus asked the question: But why do you call me Lord, Lord and do not the things which I say? (Luke 6:46). It is faithful obedience to God’s plan for the home that ensures success in that home. I see God crowning your home and family with good success in Jesus’ name!

I like you to know that Jesus Christ is the reason for the season.  If you don’t have Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour, you have no reason to celebrate.  Do want to be born again? Why not say this prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today.
