Knocks for Senator over Akpabio comment

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Special Duties Emmanuel Enoidem faulted yesterday the senator representing Akwa Ibom North-West (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District, Aloysius Etok, over his comments on Governor Godswill Akpabio. Etok, in a newspaper interview, said Akpabio is intimidated and trying to run him down because of his soaring profiles. He said he will defeat the governor anytime in a free and fair election in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District. The senator also said Akpabio was not happy when he (Etok) moved a motion for President Goodluck Jonathan, who was then a Vice President, to be made President to succeed the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. Both Akpabio and Etok are eyeing the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Seat. If the lawmaker, who is currently serving his second term, succeeds in his plan, he will be representing the district for the third term. Speaking with reporters in Uyo, the state capital, Enoidem described Etok as a man with a diminishing profile who has failed the people in his eight years at the National Assembly. The commissioner said Akpabio was very vocal and played pivotal role in the emergence of President Jonathan. “Akpabio’s support for Jonathan has been unwavering. It is very wrong for the senator to make this type of claims. “To start with, our senator does not have any capacity to support Jonathan. He lacks capacity, both in his wards, in his local government and to the entire senatorial district he represents. So, I don’t know what level of power or support he will be able to gather for the president. “It is childish for him to say that Akpabio is intimidated by his profile. I don’t know what profile he has. As far as I am concerned, he has a diminished profile.”

  • 2015: PDP’s new calculation in Imo

2015: PDP’s new calculation in Imo

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has held a rally to welcome defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owerri, capital of Imo State. Correspondent KINGSLEY NDIDI examines the implications of the defection for the ruling party in the Southeast state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is on the prowl in Imo State. At a rally in Owerri, the state capital, party leaders vowed to reclaim power from the All progressives Congress (APC) governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha. But, the governor is not sleeping on guard. He said that the PDP chieftains were day dreaming. The rally took place at the Dan Anyiam Stadium. It was attended by President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo, PDP National Chairman Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) Chief Tony Anenih, Senate President David Mark, and some governors. .

The rally was organised to welcome defectors from the APC. The defectors include former Governor Achike Udenwa, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume Imo East), Senator Chris Anyanwu, and Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN).

President Jonathan urged party members to gird their loins, ahead of the 2015 polls. He said they should learn from the wrangling and discord, which permitted a crack on the wall in 2011.

The governor of Akwa Ibom State and Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, Chief Godswill Akpabio, said that, with the return of the old members, the PDP will reclaim the state.

He charged the party leaders to to promote unity in the fold. “We are not just here to receive the returnees, but their thousands of supporters and, with what we have seen so far. the PDP has recaptured Imo State. The will of God is that, in 2015, the PDP flag will fly again in Imo government House,” he said.

The Senate President advised the PDP family to forget the past and forge ahead in the spirit of new understanding. His deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, assured that the party will bounce back next year after the polls.

Anenih was more optimistic that the PDP will regain power in the state in 2015. He said: “With the return of our great members, the job is already done.”

Mu’azu, who was impressed by the huge crowd, said: “The

he journey to recapture Imo has just started and the new leadership of the PDP is committed to reclaiming all the states we have lost as a result of internal problems”.

He added: “Now, that we have found the answers to our problems and, with the returnees, I want to assure you that Imo State has fallen”.

The national chairman however, appealed to the aspirants to thread softly. He said: “This is a brand new PDP and only our very best will be fielded during the 2015 election”.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and governorship aspirant, Hon Emeka Ihedioha, said: “Imo is a PDP state and today we have earnestly began the journey to take back the state. We made mistakes in the past, but we are back. We misunderstood ourselves and power slipped off our hands, but today, our brothers who strayed away are back and that is one of the things we need to return to Douglass House”.

President Jonathan described the rally as a reunion that will strengthen the party. He said: “We are here for unity rally because of our brothers that stepped out, but have stepped back. The PDP is the only stable party in Nigeria and we will continue to play a major role in the country”.

However, observers contend that the PDP has some some hurdles to cross. Certain elements in the party are not comfortable with the return of the founding fathers. The governorship race is already crowded. No fewer than 10 strong members of the party are struggling for the ticket. They belong to the various caucuses. They cannot be ignored because they are party financiers. They Ihedioha, Senator Hope Uzodinma, Acting Minister of Aviation Prof. Viola Onwuliri, Chief Jerry Chukwueke, former Governor Ikedi Ohakim and Ararume.

A political analyst, Chief Stanley Egwudia, expressed doubt about the ability of the different factions to agree on a consensus ccandidate. He said: “The storm is brewing in the state chapter of the PDP. The celebrated return of these heavy weights to the PDP will do more harm than good for the party. It will further break the rank of the party. All of them returning to the party have one ambition or the other they could not realize outside the party and they returned with the hope of getting retribution”.

A clear pointer to this fact was the move by a faction of the party to concede the governorship slot to Ararume as a compensation for the injustice done him in 2007, which made him dump the party after the governorship election.

Another challenge is that Okorocha has performed creditably to earn the people’s loyalty.

In Imo State today, the feeling is that the PDP has ruled the state for 12 years without anything to show for it and the electorate are known to be resolute and cannot be easily swayed by political statements or monetary inducement.

  • Akpabio backs Navy’s war against pirates

Akpabio backs Navy’s war against pirates

The Akwa Ibom State Government has promised to support the Navy on its onslaught against oil thieves and sea pirates on the waterways.

Governor Godswill Akpabio gave the pledge when the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Harry Ngonadi, visited him at the Governor’s Office in Uyo, the state capital.

Akpabio praised the FOC as the pioneer Commander of Jubilee Naval Base at Ikot Abasi, saying: ”When you came to Akwa Ibom as pioneer Commander of Jubilee, you helped us to fight bunkering and illegal refineries along the shorelines to a standstill.

“You have many states under your command, but I want to assure you that this is one state that you will enjoy the greatest cooperation from for mobilising your men and brought that menace to an end.

“We are very proud of men in uniform that have been posted to Akwa Ibom State. We are happy the way you have cooperated to ensure the security of life and property.”

The governor prayed for the protection of Naval officers in the discharge of their duties. He reminded Ngonadi of the need to establish a Naval Secondary School in the state. “We have applied to the Chief of Naval Staff to give us one secondary school in Ikot Abasi, and I hope the Flag Officer will follow up so that our children can begin to wear this uniform at tender age,” he said.

Ngonadi thanked Akpabio for supporting the Nigerian Navy.

He said: “I came in here as the pioneer commander of Jubilee Naval Base in Ikot Abasi and that Jubilee is what is today because of the uncommon nature of the governor. I have come to pay this courtesy call and register my presence here as the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command and to solicit again your cooperation as usual.”

He said the planned Ibaka Industrial City would open up the state, stressing the need for the government to factor in the Navy for security purpose.

“The Ibaka project is a gigantic project that would open up the potentials of Akwa Ibom State. In doing that, I want to solicit that the Nigerian Navy be factored into it. Whatever we are doing, we must put in place security architecture and factor it into whatever we are doing so that as soon as that project takes off we would not have security issues to contend with,” he said.

  • Politics of succession in Akwa Ibom

Politics of succession in Akwa Ibom

Group Political Editor EMMANUEL OLADESU writes on the succession battle in Akwa Ibom State and the contenders and pretenders in the 2015 governorship race.

Nature was kind and the weather was benevolent in Awa-Iman, the heart of Ibiobioland. The gathering was huge and it was not a rented crowd. Party faithful, government officials, traditional rulers, women, and youths were on their seats as early as 8 am. The thanksgiving service organised for the new Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government, Deacon Udom Emmanuel, at the Qua Iboe Church became another platform for political mobilisation. A succession battle unfolded in the oil-rich state.

After the ceremony, which was witnessed by big wigs in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it was evident that another contender to the governorship in the next year’s election has emerged. Many stakeholders could read Governor Godswill Akpabio’s body language as he reiterated his determination to hand over to a successor from the Eket Senatorial District in the spirit of equity, fairness and justice.

The beneficiary, if the governor succeeds in his plan, may be the financial expert and former Zenit Bank executive, Emmanuel. He hails from Eket Senatorial District, which has been agitating for the number one seat since 1999. The clamour for the zoning of the slot to the zone enjoys the governor’s support.

“Should the next governor come from Uyo?”, Akpabio asked? The crowd chorused no. Then, he asked again: “Should the next governor come from Ikot-Ekpene?” The people gave the same answer. Then, the governor said: “Since Obong Attah, an Ibibio from the Uyo Senatorial District, has ruled for eight years, and I, an Ibibio from Ikot-Ekpene would have also ruled for eight years in 2015, it is now the turn of the Ibibio from Eket District to produce the next governor. It is the turn of Ibibio of Eket Senatorial District, not Uyo and Ikot-Ekpene districts. There will be no rigging in 2015. The votes will be protected. In 2015, you people of Eket District should find a young man or woman to take over from me.”

The service was officiated by the National Secretary of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Apostle Emmanuel Kure, who predicted that the Secretary to Government will play more active political roles in the future. The cleric recalled the biblical story of David, who was forgotten on the farm, when the first king of Israel was to be anointed by Prophet Samuel. Kure said that the man of God was carried away when he saw the first son of Jesse. But, God did not pick him. Instead, David was brought from the farm and crowned. Kure emphasised that Emmanuel has taken after David, who rose to prominence by divine grace.”God has pulled him out of the private sector to be part of the healing process in Nigeria. When others go to herbalist to turn the heart of the governor, when others kill people to get to positions, the young man was in his office as a professional and he was called to serve,” said the priest.

The preacher described Emmanuel’s appointment as the SSG as an act of God, warning desperate elements to desist from planning evil in the state in this period of decisive decision on the political front. Urging Emmanuel not to fear, Kure added: “Whatever that will happen, there is a visitation and an appointment with the future; an appointment for destiny for your life”.

The SSG showcased himself as a man that is not driven by opulence. He was decked in a conservative white agbada, accompanied by his wife, Martha, who adorned the Ibibio costume, and his former boss, Mr. Godwin Emesele, the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank. Emesele described Emmanuel as a brand, saying that he is marketable. “You made the best choice as the SSG. In Udom you find a professional, a diligent person”, Emesele told Akpabio.

PDP chieftains at the event acknowledged that eyes are on the banker-turned politician, ahead of the 2015 polls. Hinting about this political calculation, the PDP Chairman and close associate of the governor, Mr. Paul Ekpo, who described Emmanuel as a dependable man, said that “the event and the prophesies are noted by the party”. Another chieftain, who craved for anonymity, said: “This man is a promising banker and I don’t think that the SSG has much attraction to him, if it will not clear the path for the future. I sincerely believe that he is in strong contention as we move towards 2015,” he said.

The historic event, which was the first phase of the succession endorsement, was witnessed by the deputy governor, Mrs. Valedy Ebe, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Elder Sam Ikon, former Secretary to the Federal Government Chief Ufot Ekaete, Senator Helen Esuene, former Minister of Science and Technology Ndueso Essien, former Governor Idongesit Nkanga, Air Vice Marshall Nbikak Eduok, the Chief Judge, Mrs. Item Isua, Works Commissioner Don Etim, the Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Godwin Emesele, and a judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Okoro.

To observers, the SSG has crossed the bridge from banking to politics. As he addressed the gathering, he employed oratory prowess and drew applause. It was evident that he has started honing his political skills. In his speech, he requested the governor to further confirm his fitness for the job. On the slippery political field, he emerged as the underdog and a crowd puller. A PDP chieftain, who spoke with our correspondent, described him as the potential inheritor of the Akpabio structure. Emmanuel may have also confided in his kinsmen his future ambition. Thus, when Apostle Kure requested four Ibibio elders from Awa-Iman to pray for him, their prayers reflected the Eket District’s push for power shift. “May you fulfill your destiny for Ibibio, Eket District and Akwa Ibom next year”, one of them prayed. But, the Awa Village Chairman hit the nail on the head. “We hope that, in 2015, you (governor), will return to this community for another thanksgiving service”, he said.

For the Emmanuel, the ceremony marked the beginning of a turbulent journey to the top. In the unfolding succession battle, feathers will be ruffled and ego will be bruised. That the members of the State Executive Council, monarchs, and other party chieftains are in one accord over the governor’s succession project is debatable. Even, at the ceremony, the governor acknowledged the presence of detractors. Envy and jealousy were bold on prominent chieftains who now take the back seat, following the emergence of Emmanuel as Akpabio’s de facto deputy. Some big wigs responded to gestures from the governor and the SSG with mechanical smiles.

The governor’s rivals in the party were firing salvos at him from Uyo, the state capital, while he was addressing the crowd at Awa-Iman. Two former deputy governors, two senators and a former SSG rejected what they described as an attempt to impose a candidate on the party and vowed to resist it. They accused the governor of personalising power and marginalising a section of the party, stressing that he was behaving like the lord of manor. However, the Information Commissioner, Mr Umana, said that critics will not succeeded in inciting the masses against the governor because of his “uncommon transformation programmes”.

The governor has come under attack for shoving aside his ally in the 2007 and 2011 elections, Umana Umana, as the SSG. The former SSG was a strong contender for the governorship before his removal. Many thought that the governor had the intention of handing over to him as he moves to the Senate, if the PDP retains the state.

Akapabio reflected on the sack of Umana, saying that he has no regret replacing him with another Ibibio from the same district. Describing Emmanuel as God’s choice for the job, the governor hinted that the event will herald more good tidings for him.

Apart from obtaining the party’s membership card at his ward, Emmanuel has erected a mansion in his rustic town. But, the governor admonished him to remember his roots by pushing for more road construction in his area. He said he is in a vantage position to attract more amenities to his area as the Chairman of the Finance Committee. In response to Emmanuel’s request to confirm his fitness for the job, Akpabio said: “Udom Emmanuel is qualified to be the SSG. It is God who qualifies you. Verily verily I answer you today. By thy fruit you shall be known. By your word, you are qualified. When God chooses, he qualifies. Who am I to qualify God’s choice? A word is enough for the wise”.

The SSG, who thanked God for the appointment, applauded the governor for giving him the job. He also thanked his former boss, Mr. Jim Ovia, who he described as a mentor.Emmanuel described the governor as a goal getter, urging him not to be deterred by the acts of jealousy by his detractors. Apparently firing salvos at critics who had described him as a neophyte, the SSG, who quoted a passage from Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s new year message, said: “God does not choose those that qualify. He qualifies those he chooses. I thank God for choosing me”.

Emmanuel faces a future pregnant with possibilities. The road to the State House is laced with thorns. Apostle Kure alerted him to the challenges ahead.”People are planning to take this state by force and scatter everything”, he warned. To survive, he advised him to be humble and shun hypocrisy. “Fear the Lord, do justice and uphold righteousness”, he admonished. A PDP chieftain from the Eket Zone said that the SSG has a lot to do to gain the confidence of his colleagues in the State Executive Council, the party and the traditional institution. He said, in spite of the governor’s tacit endorsement, the SSG must try to court the stakeholders on his own.

A source said that Emmanuel may declare for the governorship in the next quarter, if the coast is clear. His opponents are formidable, although leaning on the power of incumbency wielded by the governor is an added advantage. In 2007, that incumbency collapsed when Governor Victor Attah could not abort Akpabio’s dream to succeed him. Can the same scenario play itself out in 2015, if aspirants not endorsed by the governor join the race?

Apart from Emmanuel, other contenders in the race include Prof. Richard King, Senator Helen Esuene, a maritime expert, Michael Onofiok, Commissioner for Rural Development Effiong Abia, former Deputy Governor Ekpenyoing Ntekim, Finance Commissioner Bassey Akpan, House of Assembly Majority Leader Okpolupm Etteh, former PDP Deputy Chairman Bishop Sam Akpan, Ambassador Assam Assam and Lary Esin.

  • Akpabio backs Jonathan for 2015

    Akpabio backs Jonathan for 2015

•PDP ‘ll poach from APC, says Mu’azu

Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio yesterday pledged his support for President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 re-election bid.

He urged him to declare his intention to run.

With the call, Akpabio, regarded in the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) circle as one of the President’s die hard supporters, appeared to have belled the cat on Jonathan’s re-election bid.

His call is coming on the heels of a resolve by the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, to poach prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to counter the defections from the ruling party.

The Akwa Ibom governor promised to deliver to the President all the delegate votes from his state, as he did during the party’s 2011 presidential nominations.

“We did it in 2011 and I assure Mr. President that Akwa Ibom will do it again. We were the first set in 2010 to announce our support for him to go for his first tenure in 2011.

“We did that and other states followed. We are again the first state to urge Mr. President to go back for a second term.

“We are a monolithic group in Akwa Ibom, although you may have one or two people who want to test the political waters here and there”, he added.

Although the President is yet to openly declare his interest in the race, his body language over time, has continued to reinforce the general belief and suspicion among party chieftains that he might be scheming for the 2015 presidential ticket of his party.

The sustained scheming by the President’s close aides and loyalists ahead of the 2015 poll was one of the factors, which sparked the lingering crisis in the party.

It has led to defections, with five governors and a number of federal lawmakers elected on the platform of the PDP crossing to the APC last November.

The governors are Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano); Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto); Murtala Nyako (Adamawa); and Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara).

Thirty-seven members of the PDP in the House of Representatives in December also defected to the APC.

No fewer than 17 senators of the ruling party are also waiting to join APC.

But Akpabio, who led a delegation of the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the PDP to the party’s national secretariat, said the defections were no longer relevant in the emerging calculations.

According to him, most of the defected governors are on the last lap of their second and final tenure, stressing they would all vacate their seats at the expiration of their tenure next year.

Said he: “Most of us are outgoing governors. So whether the five governors, who defected to the APC come back or not, we must leave and others must take our places.

“I think we should concentrate more on those ones who will take over from those governors and ensure that those states remain with PDP.

“Elections are not done in offices, neither do we do elections in the Presidential Villa. So, those who have access to the Villa and who have access to the offices at the PDP secretariat are not necessarily those who will get the votes that will put PDP in power in 2015.

“I owe nobody any apology over my loyalty to President Jonathan. One thing I know about party politics is loyalty. You cannot be disloyal to the leadership of the party and the system and then expect to come through the window to take power. It is impossible and this is what the National Working Committee (NWC) must help us to work against.

“I am very loyal to the leader of the party at the national level, Mr. President and you can all attest to it. I don’t make pretences about it. So I will expect the same loyalty to be extended to me at the state level.

“Whoever wants to stay in Abuja and jump through the office of the NWC to take power in Akwa Ibom, I say it is impossible”.

Giving reasons for his support for Jonathan’s re-election project, Akpabio said he believed in the President’s transformation agenda, particularly in the areas of power, agriculture and other sectors.

Mu’azu, however, expressed the party’s desire to woo back the governors and federal lawmakers, who defected to the APC.

According to him, plans are afoot for a meeting of major stakeholders with a view to addressing Nigerians on what the PDP stands for.

Mu’azu also hinted of plans to review the party’s manifesto to keep abreast of dynamics in contemporary party politics, stressing that the need to reposition the party ahead of the 2015 elections has become imperative.

The PDP chairman challenged the opposition APC to what could be described as the poaching game, vowing to ensure that the ruling party beat APC.

Mu’azu said: “The opposition politicians are master poachers, but we will soon show them that we are better at the game, because we are going to beat them.

“If that is their game, then we are going to learn it because they are going to teach us how to poach.

Apparently pained by the warm embrace given the PDP defectors by the APC, Mu’azu said: “When two members of your family fight, you should reconcile them and not pitch one against the other”.

Among members of the Akwa Ibom delegation were two serving senators, some members of the House of Representatives, a ministerial nominee and several party chieftains from the state.

  • Akpabio’s quizzical abnegation

    Akpabio’s quizzical abnegation

THANKS to the advertisement he published in many newspapers last week, many Nigerians got to know of Akwa Ibom State’s Governor Godswill Akpabio’s disinterestedness in running for the presidency next year. Most people missed the original story in which he was alleged to have indicated interest. Given the fulsomeness of the denial, perhaps the target of the advertisement, that is, the president himself, will believe him. President Jonathan had better believe the governor, if Mr Akpabio is not to cut off his right arm in a desperate bid to offer what should pass as an irrevocable proof.

But Mr Akpabio’s frantic abjuration of the presidency indicates something much more invidious than merely telling us the truth about his intentions. It shows very poignantly the terrible pass Nigerian politics has come to, one in which few men of character are left, whether of governors who lack the courage to aspire, or of presidents like Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr Jonathan who thrive on sycophancy and in humiliating and dominating their opponents.

  • NANS disowns official over Akpabio’s ultimatum

NANS disowns official over Akpabio’s ultimatum

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) yesterday disowned its Southwest Coordinator, Sunday Ashefon, for giving Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio 14 days ultimatum to find Prof. James Olomo.

Olomo, a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State was allegedly kidnapped in Akwa Ibom on October 17 last year.

NANS in a statement by its Vice- President (Special Duties), Comrade Ubon Marcus, in Abuja said the ultimatum does not represent the association’s official position.

The statement described Ashefon as an attention-seeker, who felt he could make Akpabio notice him through blackmail and propaganda.

Marcus noted that as the chief security officer of the state, Akpabio has provided security agencies with the resources to tackle crime, adding that he even established special security teams, such as Operation Thunder and Quick Response Squad, to rid the state of criminals.

He said he wondered why Ashefon should attempt to “insult Akpabio over the alleged kidnap of a man who is said to have come to the state for private concerns, which the governor is unaware of.”

Marcus further said that to the best of his knowledge, security agencies in the state had been performing their duties. He urged the public to approach such agencies whenever security issues arose.

Sympathising with the family of Prof. Olomo over the unfortunate incident, the NANS VP warned Ashefon to either desist from making unguarded statements or face serious actions from students.

He enjoined him to apologise to students for “using its much respected platform to peddle blackmail and propaganda, rather than projecting their legitimate interests.”

Marcus urged the NANS Southwest coordinator, whom he described as a “fresh comrade”, who recently assumed office, to focus on the tenets of the struggle rather than attacking Akpabio, who has done a lot to sustain the struggle.

He cited the hosting of the last NANS national convention in Uyo by the governor as the greatest support any governor has given to NANS, saying students should be grateful for this.

According to him, Akpabio holds education in high esteem as shown by his free and compulsory education policy and the provision of educational infrastructure.

Marcus said the governor’s timely intervention in the crisis in the University of Uyo (Uniuyo) prevented it from worsening and provided an enabling platform for the return of peace.

He apologised to Akpabio and advised him to continue his good programmes.

Health workers give Akpabio seven-day ultimatum

The Joint Health Sector Unions in Akwa Ibom State yesterday issued a seven-day ultimatum to the state government to address the non- implementation of the Federal Government-approved Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) or face strike.

In a letter by the state chairman of the National Association ofNigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) and six others, addressed to Governor Godswill Akpabio through the Head of Service, the workers said all the health workers except those in Akwa Ibom have enjoyed CONHESS as approved by the Federal Government.

The letter reads: “You will recall that health workers in Akwa

Ibom State have over three years watched with keen interest, the refusal by the government to adopt and implement CONHESS, which has since been enjoyed by health workers in all states except those in Akwa Ibom.

“We have observed that Akwa Ibom State government under the leadership of Governor Akpabio has refused to discuss the issues raised by the health workers, especially as it concerns the implementation of the Federal Government-approved CONHESS.

“We are giving government seven days ultimatum. At the end, if nothing is done, we would have no option than to resume the suspended strike.”
