The accused– Ndidi, 29, a student; and Oges, 30, a businessman — both residents of Gowon Estate, Egbeda, however, pleaded innocence of the offences.

But the Prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase told court that the accused committed the offences on Aug. 3 in Gowon Estate, Egbeda.

He said the accused conspired to assault their neighbour, Miss Patience Iyeonema, by beating her and injuring her.

“The accused were shouting, calling the complainant a prostitute, the complainant ignored them and left the house to buy food.

“The accused, who have been trying to date her all to no avail, followed her to where she went to eat and were still harassing her  publicly calling her unpleasant names,” he told the court.

Awase said when the accused discovered that the complainant did not react, they went further to assault her by beating her.

“The duo jointly descended on the complainant and inflicted injury on her forehead with a chair.

“The complainant was bleeding from her head and she went to the police station to report,” he said.

The offences contravened Sections 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 173 attracts three years jail term for assault occasioning harm.

The Magistrate, Mr J.A. Adigun, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each, insisting that the sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment.

The case was adjourned until Aug. 30 for mention.

The accused, who resides in Oko-Oba, Agege, a Lagos suburb, is standing trial on a  two-count charge of fraud and unlawful possession of fake bank notes.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

But the Prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase told court that the accused committed the offences on July 24 at Oke-Oba Bureau de Change, Agege.

He said the accused fraudulently obtained N46,000 from the complainant, Mr Seidu Dauda, in exchange for pounds sterling.

“The accused approached the complainant with 180 pieces of pounds sterling to buy.

“A few minutes after the accused had left, the complainant discovered that the notes are fake.

“The following week, the accused came with another 136 pieces of fake pounds sterling to sell and the complainant recognised him and called in the police,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, when his house was searched, 126 pieces of pounds Sterling and 13 pieces of dollars suspected to be fake were found.

The offences contravened Sections 314 and 372 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 314 attracts 15 years jail term for fraud, while Section 372 prescribes seven years for unlawful possession of fake bank notes.

The Magistrate, Mr J.A. Adigun, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties.

Adigun said the sureties should be gainfully employed and should also show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until Aug. 30 for mention.
