  • Igbinedion collected N5bn for Okada road project – Oshiomhole

Igbinedion collected N5bn for Okada road project – Oshiomhole

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday accused his predecessor, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, of collecting N5billion for the dualisation of the Okada road which was never executed.

The governor said the new 8.5km Uhen-Olumoye road also in Ovia North East local government area of the state was a testimony to what a focus government can do.

Oshiomhole, who spoke while inaugurating the Uhen-Olumoye road, said the All Progress Congress (APC) would continue to deliver people-oriented projects to the people of Edo State.

He said the road was a reward to the people of the affected communities for putting their trust in him.

He told the people that the road project was part of the debt he paid back to appreciate the trust reposed in him by the people when they voted for him.

The governor promised that the five years black out being experienced by the people would be solved next week.

He said: “The only thing I want to reveal is that the man our party has chosen to continue from where I will stop, to start part two is not a stranger in governance.

“The day we held the state executive council meeting where we took the decision to construct this road, he was there in the meeting because he was the chairman of the economic team. So, there is nothing we do that he doesn’t know about. He knows where we want to go and where we are at the moment. He also knows what is remaining and he knows how to do what is remaining. That is why we say we want to consolidate on what we have done and we want to go to the next level.

“So, I want to promise you that Godwin Obaseki will even do better because he doesn’t have to learn the work again. After we have worked for eight years, I will withdraw and he will take over. I have no fear about that. And I promise you that APC will do more. Even if I am sleeping, I know that Obaseki will do well.”

  • Poll: Edo monarch blasts PDP over false report

The Enogie of Eyaen, Osazuwa Iduriase, has lambasted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for publishing in an online media that he chased the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Godwin Obaseki, out of his palace.

Iduriase said he was shocked that a political party could peddle lies just to win votes.

The monarch said he was in the United States at the time the report said he refused to receive Obaseki.

Iduriase, who predicted victory for the APC at the governorship election, said Governor Adams Oshiomhole has earned his respect for developing the state.

He said, “We have a problem with social media because so many lies are being peddled there.  I got a call that I drove Obaseki from my palace. I said what me that was in America. How can someone that was outside the country be at his palace at the same time? That was why I said when I come to town I will see you personally.

“If you look at the history of my people here, you will know the kind of people we are. As you now come here, we will tell our people about your ambition.

“I will have to thank you also for the way you have conducted yourself in this campaign and I know that in the election, you are going to emerge victorious.

“I pray our ancestors protect you before and after the election.”

  • Obaseki to electorates: Trust me with your votes

Obaseki to electorates: Trust me with your votes

Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Godwin Obaseki, has told electorates in the state to trust him with their votes.

He said the September 28 election in the state would be the beginning of an economic revolution with more wealth creation capacities and better opportunities for all Edo people than ever experienced before.

Speaking at an interactive session with 2000 support groups in Benin City, Obaseki noted Governor Adams Oshiomhole laid a solid foundation on which he and his running mate, Honourable Philip Shaibu, would build on.

Obaseki stated that his administration would be a people-oriented government with open and efficient channels of communication to allow every Edo citizen make an input into how the state is run through their critical feedback.

His words: “For me, September 28 will be the beginning of a real economic revolution in Edo State. When the comrade Governor assumed office almost 8 years ago the circumstances were very different: we have to fight hard to free the state from the stranglehold of the PDP cabal who had held us down in perpetual under-development for 16 years.”

“In spite of their fierce resistance because they were used to sharing our money, we still were able to rebuild schools for our children, and we opened up many communities across the state through the massive road construction projects that we undertook. Nobody thought it was possible but we did it; we proved to our people that with good and determined leadership Edo State can work again.”

Commenting further Obaseki said: “Today, Edo State is in a better place than we met it almost eight years ago. Yes, there are many challenges facing us – mostly as a result of the global economic recession – but we believe that with the solid foundation that the Comrade Governor has laid in infrastructure development we now have a unique opportunity to bring about an economic revolution in the state by broadening of our revenue stream through strategic investment in non-oil sectors of the economy.

“As an investment banker of over 30 years standing, I have helped create wealth and jobs for many organisations. And with the experience I have garnered in the last 8 years of working with the Comrade Governor, I believe that I have all it takes to be the driver of Edo’s economic revolution. I, therefore, ask you to trust me with this all-important task by voting massively for the APC come September 28, and I promise you that – by the special grace of God – I will make Edo State greater and more prosperous than we have ever experienced.

“I want to assure you that the way we have campaigned – with the people and issues affecting them at the core – is the way we will run our government. We will have functional call centers for citizen feedback on problems within their communities, and we will do everything in our power to address them. So even if you may not always see the governor one-on-one to talk to him, you can be rest assured that we will have a system where you can bring your issues and complaints to us, and we will respond to them.”

  • Obaseki shines at Edo guber debate

Obaseki shines at Edo guber debate

The flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 10 Edo governorship elections, Godwin Obaseki, emerged as the clear winner from the gubernatorial debate organized by Channels Television between the candidates in the governorship race – ahead of Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the factional candidate of the major opposition, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

According to those present in the audience, Obaseki was the most outstanding of the four runners in the 90-minute televised debate from Best Western Hotel, Benin City.

He exuded confidence as he expertly responded to a series of questions ranging from how he would tackle the problem of insecurity in the state; plans to diversify and significantly boost the economy of Edo; and steps to tackle unemployment and create 200,000 jobs in 4 years.

The consensus among young people who watched the debate was summed up by 21-year old Joy Iredia, a student of the University of Benin: “Up until now I did not take much interest in politics. But listening to all the candidates speak, I was drawn in by the candidate of the APC, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, and how kept his focus on the issues and articulated his plans to take Edo State forward, particularly the use of technology as a tool for effective governance and job creation.”

On his part, Mr. Osahon Bello, a civil servant, said, “The civil service forms the major workforce in Edo State. I align with Obaseki’s plan to restructure the civil service in order to be more efficient and productive through robust training strategies to meet the challenges of fostering strong, sustainable and balanced economic growth.”

Obaseki, a renowned investment banker and wealth management expert of over 30 years repute, posited that the economic challenges confronting us as a people today are so complex that it takes someone with a full grasp of all the issues, and practical experience in solving complex economic problems to lead the state on the path to prosperity.

Referring to the ‘simple agenda’ of PDP’s Ize-Iyamu, Obaseki pointed out that this is the time for us to be circumspect and think things through very carefully, not simplistically. “Simple solutions cannot solve our complex political problems; they cannot solve our complex economic problems; and can definitely not solve our complex security problems. It is mental indolence to think there are simple solutions to our problems.”

The APC flagbearer noted, “The world is set for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. We have identified the cycles and markers and we are prepared to play our part in this forward shift in the gears, ideologically opposed to being left behind. Our vision is a modern and progressive Edo State where every citizen is empowered with opportunity to live life in its fullness.”

In his closing remark, Obaseki assured of better days ahead for Edo people, promising that his will be a people-oriented and inclusive government. He appealed to the electorate to support his bid by voting massively for the APC come September 10.

Obaseki reaffirms commitment to welfare of Edo people

All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Edo state, Godwin Obaseki has restated his commitment to the welfare of Edo people if voted into office.

Obaseki spoke on Friday when he addressed traders and residents of Evbareke motor spare parts market and environs during his campaign.

He said that with his stints in the private sector, he understood the challenges of businessmen.

Obaseki noted that though the outgoing administration had done well in view of the administration’s scorecard, there was still more work to be done.

He said that it was on the basis of this that continuity in programmes could not be ruled out.

Obaseki said he would continue from where the outgoing administration would stop and ensure that roads, schools, and other infrastructure not renovated or reconstructed were tackled.

He, however, said in spite of this, his administration’s main focus would be on empowerment through microfinance loans, agriculture and provision of technical schools.

Meanwhile, Gov. Adams Oshiomhole, has expressed optimism of the APC winning the forthcoming Sept. 10 governorship election in the state.

Oshiomhole said his conviction stemmed from the fact that the party had performed well in the state.

He noted that election periods were periods of making promises, but added that what mattered was fulfilling the promises made.

Oshiomhole urged the electorate not to make themselves gullible to empty political promises but to go out and vote wisely for the candidate they believed would deliver on his electoral promises.

  • NCP candidate protests at debate

Candidate of the National Conscience Party (NCP) in the Edo State governorship election, Pastor Peters Omoragbon, on Sunday night protested alleged partiality of the organizers of a debate for political parties’ candidates in the state.

The debate tagged the ‘Mandate’ was shunned by eight candidates including Mr. Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressive Congress.

Pastor Omoragbon who was among 12 candidates that participated in the debate expressed his disappointment during the debate after the time keeper cut him off.

He said he regretted inability to articulate his party’s programmes and manifestos because of time.

His words: “I want to express my disappointment at this event. The timing given to other candidates is different from what is allowed us now. I cannot be used as a photo shop.”

Another protest erupted when party logos were to be placed on the podium after four candidates stepped down without their party logos pasted on the podium.

The candidates said it was unfair for the organizers to allow them speak without their party logos but to paste such on the podium at a time candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, United Progressive Party, KOWA party and Social Democratic Party.

Candidate of the UPP, Adviser Shedrack Nowamagbe said he would recover stolen funds from past administrations in the state to ensure stable electricity and adequate security.

Adviser Nowamagbe who was briefed in his comments urged all candidates to be prepared to swear before the Oba’s shrine if the people were to take them seriously.

KOWA’s party candidate, Mr. Thompson Osadolor, described himself as a mechanic that want to fix the state.

He promised to set up a state owned construction firm with a view to carrying out road construction with direct Labour without award such contracts to contractors.

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu said the ruling APC policy has not been friendly to investors as well as not giving access to credit facilities.
