Shuaibu submitted that Shehu lured the child to a store at Tashan Dukku in Gombe.

He told the court that an investigation into the case  was ongoing, and sought  adjournment to enable the police to complete the investigation.

He said that the offence contravened Section 284 of the Penal Code.

  • Expounding the danger of Dankwambo, Nafada script in Gombe

AS an American magazine editor, Wilson Tozer, puts it “of all forms of deception, self-deception is the deadliest and of all deceived persons the self-deceived are the least likely to discover the fraud” or perhaps pretend not to have discovered the truth so as to drag other people into their deception. The use of public office to tell lies or deny the hard obvious truth is nothing but a representation of the era of poor leadership or better yet an error of public service as demonstrated by the naivety of those whose zeal to defend the undemocratic acts of Gov. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo and his partner in political unjustness puts paid to the saying that ”it is he who pays the piper that dictates the tune.” The level of ignorance or pretence showcased by paid associates of Gov. Dankwambo and Senator Nafada who think the truth would never come out has made them a more worrisome threat to the entrenchment of democratic norms in Gombe State in regard to the altruism shared by all well-meaning democrats that democracy thrives best on truth and justice in the pursuit of the voice of the majority. In view of the publication by supposed press man of Gov. Dankwambo or should I say ‘please’ man; or better say self-deception acclaimed spokesman, because I cannot remember when Dankwambo appointed Junaidu to be his spokesperson. I like to challenge Mr. Junaidu’s sheer ignorance of the personality of Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna (JIG).

For Junaidu who gave an erroneous account of JIG’s personality with the piece: ‘Misconceiving Dankwambo, Nafada’s importance in Gombe’, let me start by saying that it is easier for a sincere man to change his feelings than to align himself with a congregation of idea-blind, politically corrupt, justice and truth bankrupt beings that pride themselves on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State. According to him, JIG is a man whose feelings change with time for just no cause. Let me quickly ask, can a man’s feeling change without a cause? Why didn’t the same feelings change before the PDP hoax they called election? Well the legendary Bob Marley may be correct in his own perception and context to which the excerpt read. Notwithstanding, time may not change a sincere leader’s heart but injustice and political deceits can change a million feelings in no time. Hence, as for JIG his feelings only changed when the PDP tip-toed into a party where the emblem of justice and truth is de-emphasised.

If Gov. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, whose feelings you have rightly said had remained the same with time justifies good governance, I vehemently disagree. Well, that probably gives a clue as to why Gombe State has remained the same within the last seven years without any revolution in infrastructure, a revamp of the agricultural sector and total collapse of the state structures that were bequeathed to him by our symbol of good governance, Senator Danjuma Goje. The structures that made Gombe State a true jewel in the savannah have been in comatose for years since the governor’s ill-feelings of good governance and issues that concern his people had remained unchanged with time while meaningful developments had eluded our state. Little wonder, the N4 billion naira Gombe conference centre had remained the same without use or has it become a beautifying monument of no returns on investments. N4 billion in any account foreign or local would yield awesome and jaw-dropping interests in one year not to talk of the years that the misplaced priority has been sitting there. It was also reported sometimes in June that over N4.4 billion hospital equipment and consumables lay waste at Gombe State Medical Store for over four years while many inherited General and Cottage hospitals, primary health and other health centres were in need of these facilities. This government has proven to be more efficient in wasting the resources of the good people of the state than providing purposeful vision as well as the need-of-the-people oriented projects. The big question is why? In attempt to defend his boss, the aggrieved writer alludes that the governor has done well by paying salaries and I asked when have salaries payment become a manifesto or should the workers not get what they deserved having worked to earn their pay or is the money not the resource of the state? Why then has the governor refused to pay the pensioners for years or is that not worth mentioning too?

Let me take some time to respond to the questions the writer of ”Misconceiving Dankwambo, Nafada’s importance in Gombe” asked as I hope he would in good faith answer mine in his subsequent publications. Asking of the prominent politicians that decamped with JIG, I will say that that’s what makes JIG a unique personality. He stands for the truth and follows it even when it seems he will end up being the lone voice of the voiceless PDP members. Do you know the number of top PDP chieftains who called JIG to commend his courage to challenge the injustice done to some members of the party? If you do your findings right, you will shockingly discover that most of the PDP members are nothing but APC hearts and voters. This should be the concern of those who hope to pass the baton of leadership. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to hide the truth that keeps re-surfacing with time. As for the numbers of followers that JIG decamped with, I will crave your indulgence to wait till the campaigns when the waves of unified APC supporters will echo the statistics of JIG’s supporters who decamped with him to those who are asking through the writer.

As regards to JIG not consulting any stakeholder or PDP chieftain before he decamped to APC, I like to say it was part of the scripted plans of Gov. Dankwambo and Senator Nafada that JIG would come for consultation and he would be persuaded to stay so they could leverage on his supporters to win the elections. All these are what JIG is well abreast of because there are chieftains who leaked some of their plans and today JIG is being crucified in the media as the expression of the PDP political pains and loss of JIG’s unstoppable move to the APC which has become already spilt milk for the PDP. The question of if JIG has the grassroots political structure, well it will mean nothing if I answer you because nothing truly can convince a man like you who doesn’t want to listen or should I say blind to the truth of the reality of modern political trends and the rhythm of the political beats that those in the rural areas are dancing to.

Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya and Alhaji Jamil Isyaku Gwamna are businessmen of impeccable characters who have never used government money for political gains of any sorts. If JIG was a power-monger, he would have gone to pick up the gubernatorial ticket of any political party available but he chose to align his vision to where he knows that the people of Gombe would fare better: APC.

Referring to JIG as a no mate for politicians of Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo and Nafada’s likes, I like to state that such reasoning reiterates the naivety of those who have been contracted to defend the interest of the governor.

I give it out as a challenge for anyone who cares to verify with a view to fore-telling the catastrophe of a leader that the PDP wants to impose on the good people of Gombe State. I ask, what are the contributions of Senator Nafada in the hallow chamber? There is no single bill or motion he has put forward that scaled through ascent. As an advice to the good people of Gombe State, kindly look before you leap in 2019.

  • PDP can’t retain power in Gombe, says Gwamna

The former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Gombe State, Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, has promised to work for the victory of  President Muhammad Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya in next year’s elections.

Speaking to reporters in Gombe Tuesday, Dr. Jamil said: “We are going to work tirelessly and assiduously to ensure that president Muhammad Buhari wins the 2019 elections and the candidate of the APC in Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya will become the next governor of Gombe state.”

Jamilu, who defected to APC with a large crowd of followers in Gombe, reiterated that he is not seeking the governorship of the state for his personal gains rather for the development of the young state and its people.

He said: “I am not seeking leadership or position of governorship for the sake of becoming the governor of Gombe state but I am doing that because the good people Gombe state have called on me to do so and I have answered to their calls.

“I am not seeking election for myself iam seeking election for the sake of development, my people and as such I shall continue to make myself available to render my services to my people the good people of Gombe state, wherever and in whatever capacity I found myself. APC is our new home and we are ready to collaborate or partner with any good person or organizations that have something good for our people. That we vowed to do and that we shall do with the last blood in our vessels.”

According to the Sarduanan Gombe, “Having considered what transpired during the just concluded PD gubernatorial primaries that took place at the banquet hall of the Gombe State government house,” I felt that Gombe state will not be adequately, justifiably and judiciously be represented by the PDP in the state therefore, I belief we have to seek an alternative of that will represents the aspirations of the good people of the state.”

He said the noble aspirations he represent cannot be realised under the PDP because of the actions of the governor and his likes, which he said have clearly demonstrated that PDP as a party will not guaranty the actualization of the dreams of the good people of Gombe state.

“Having consulted with my people, the good people of Gombe state, we have come to the inevitable conclusion to leave the PDP and decamp to the APC in order to actualize our dreams of taking Gombe to the promise land. And having carefully reviewed our position, we felt that the aspirations of the good people of Gombe state being a young state and with all the hopes of a young state will be best represented by the APC. I therefore, declared that as from this moment I and all my followers wherever they are in Gombe state will be members of the All progressives congress (APC).

  • ‘Yahaya will defeat PDP in Gombe’

Former Gombe State  All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant Abubakar Haidar yesterday said the candidate, Alhaji  Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya will defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next year’s election.

Haidar congratulated Yahaya, saying that his victory was the beginning of the defeat of the ruling PDP.

He said it was based on the transparency of the primary that the contenders embraced themselves after the exercise without grievances.

Haidar said: “There was level playing ground and as such all the contenders accepted the result in good faith.

“We commend the decorum, maturity and discipline demonstrated by all stakeholders especially by we the candidates. With the outcome of the primary, we have no doubt in the capacity of the APC to sustain its internal democracy at all levels.”

Haider  called on supporters of other aspirants to respect the results of the election, disclosing that they have resolved and are ready to work with the candidate to form a government in the state  in 2019.

He added: “As I used this opportunity to congrat our party flagbearer I want to call on all our supporters to respect our collective decision by supporting our brand new candidate.”

“We are ready to work and cooperate in forming the strongest government in Gombe, which will be all inclusive,” Haidar said.

“We would work as a team to ensure victory for the party, I am optimistic that we are winning the general election in 2019 because we are committed towards actualising that.”

  • Primary: Gombe PDP governorship aspirant rejects results

Alhaji Jamilu Gwamna, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has rejected the results of the election that produced Sen. Bayero Nafada as the party’s governorship candidate in Gombe State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalls that Nafada scored 1,104 votes to defeat 12 other aspirants including Gwamna, who scored 147 votes to come second.

  • Who gets Gombe APC ticket?

Four aspirants-Habiu Muazu, Inuwa Yahaya, Abdullahi Umar and Ahmed Mailantarki–are struggling for the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State. Who gets the ticket? Group Political Editor EMMANUEL OLADESU examines the chances of the contenders at the shadow poll.

THE governorship primary is gathering momentum in Gombe State. The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are warming up for the exercise.

PDP has four aspirants. They include Jamil Ishyaka, Bello Bala Azare, Alhjaji Ahmed Walama,Hassan Mohammed, and Bello Bala Tinka. They are pushing for a government of continuity.

APC has five aspirants. For them, the race is not a do or die affair. According to the party, they have resolved to work with the winner at the primary. The resolution is important because during the 2015 primary, some aspirants worked against the APC.

    Umar Bamusa.

A young and dynamic politician, Bamusa is popular. His nick name is “moving train.” He is a defector from the PDP. When he left the PDP, many of his followers also called it quits with the platform. His generosity is well known. He is perceived as a croud puller. A section of the party believes that he has the backing of former Governor Danjuma Goje.

Bamusa has visited  114 electoral wards across  11 Local Government Areas. During the recent Sallah celebrations, he allegedly dolled out N40 million to party faithful.

Exuding confidence, he has described himself as the candidate to beat. But, he urged the contenders to maintain a bond of unity so that APC can be victorious at the poll. “I am a founding member of the PDP. Also, I was a strong financier of the CPC in Gombe State. I have built   political bridges within and outside my party.”

“Our primary focus now is to ensure that we go to the primary successfully and we go to the field. I enjoy a lot of public support and I am very confident that if the APC can trust me with their mandate, Gombe people will trust me with their mandate to govern the state.,” he said.

The weakness of the aspirant is that he he has not held any public office before.

     Inuwa Yahaya:

Yahaya was the APC flag bearer in 2015. His acceptability cuts across the three senatorial districts. Many believe he has the financial clout to wrestle power from the PDP.But his greatest challenge is that most people consider his family as”settlers” in Gombe State, and they are attributed his defeat to the “settler”status. Also, he does not seem to enjoy the support of the traditional institution.

But, Yahaya, a former Commissioner for Finance, is determined. He is a courageous politican. He recently donated 15 vehicles to top party leaders. He also gave out 125 motorcycles to local government  chairmen and secretaries of the party across 114 wards.

    Habu Muazu:

Habu Muazu, popularly known as Yeriman Kashere, (Prince of Kashere) ,is a strong and powerful politician. He is a former  influential youth leader of the PDP and campaign coordinator of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the Northeast. His bid is being supported by many party leaders.

Analysts belive that understands the political terrain, having lived all his life in Gombe and contributed immensely to the electoral victories og the PDp in the past.

    Idris  Umar

Senator Idris Abdullahi Umar represented Gombe Central in the Senate between 2007 and 2011. He is a former Minister of Transport. He s President Jonathan.

Many believe that he has ben operating on the fringe in the APC. He has the financial muscle. But, he is not influential in the party. However, he is close to Senator Goje.

    Khamisu Mailantarki

Mailantarki, a former member of the National Assembly, represented Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Constituency, is a promising politician.

He is perceived as a light weight. He does not have a formidable structure. To the PDP, he is not a threat.

But, some observers have said that other contenders can only underrate him to their peril. He is a loyalist of President Mohammadu Buhari. He has the record of not defecting from the opposition since the days of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). He led Gombe opposition parties into merger talks to form the APC.

  • Floods kill 19 in Adamawa, Gombe

Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) and the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) have confirmed the death of 19 people in floods.

Ten persons died in Adamawa and nine in Gombe.

ADSEMA Executive Secretary Dr Muhammed Suleiman, in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Yola, said hundreds of domestic animals, including cattle, were also lost to the flood.

He said the deaths recorded were particularly from Yola South, Guyuk,  Lamurde and  Song  local government areas of the state.

Gombe SEMA’s Deputy Director, Rescue and Rehabilitation Mrs Lamis Benjamin said four of the nine deaths were recorded in May following a downpour in Gombe town.

She said the remaining five deaths were recorded in Cham community of Balanga Local Government Area of the state in August also after a downpour.

The deputy director also said over 200 houses and numerous farm lands were washed away in Nyuwar, Jesu Cham in Balanga and Komta Ayaba in Biliri local government areas.

In Cross River State  flood destroyed more than 175 houses, rendered at least 3,000 people homeless, according to Mr John Inaku, Director-General of State Emergency Management Agency(SEMA).

The Rice Famers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) in Kano State was counting its losses yesterday. Flood has destroyed over 5,000 hectares of rice farm in some local government areas of the state.

The RIFAN state chairman, Abubakar Aliyu, told reporters in Kano that the rice farms were affected in 10 local government areas of the state.
