  • Fayose is very abusive, lacks decorum, says Oyegun

    National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Odigie-Oyegun said Monday that the party was working hard to redeem Ekiti state from what he described as a very abusive government.

    Oyegun who spoke when he received the report of the Primary election Committee from the committee chairman and Nasarawa state governor, Tanko Al-Makura said the present Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose was very abusive and lacked decorum.

    He praised the aspirants for their spirit of sportsmanship, adding that the disrupted primary,  gave the party an opportunity to organise a perfect one, adding that the committees, aspirants and the delegates at the primary deserves a gold medal.

    He said the party leadership had started work to consolidate on the victory recorded at the primary, saying “We are working to ensure that the victory you have started is carried through come July 14, this year at the governorship election”.

    Presenting the report, Gov. Tanko Al-Makura attributed the success of last Saturday primary to the maturity exhibited by aspirants, delegates and party members.

    He said the exercise was successful because of the cooperation, passion and commitment of party members, delegates and the aspirants, adding that “More than anything else, is the conduct of the delegates at the primary, they were very matured and orderly”.

    He added that in spite of the rains, the delegates carried themselves in a much matured way and even embarrassed themselves after the results were announced.

    He said the party’s leadership should use the platform of solidarity exhibited at the primary to ensure coercion among its member in the state especially.

    Al-Makura however, blamed the disrupted May 5 primary to the activities of hoodlums whom he said took advantage of security lapses then, to course crisis.

  • Nasarawa youths demand infrastructure, amenities

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youths Forum in Udege Development Area of Nasarawa State has called on the State Government to provide social amenities and infrastructure to reduce youth restiveness in the state.

    Mr Zubairu Abdullahi, the Chairman of the forum, made the appeal on Tuesday while outlining the resolutions of their meeting to newsmen in Udege.

    Abdullahi said that the provision of electricity and functional education as well as construction of rural roads, bridges and culverts would boost socio-economic activities, discourage youths from crimes and reduce rural-urban migration.

    He said that the youths have resolved to support Gov. Tanko Al-Makura to extend his developmental strides to rural areas, adding that the policy would change the lives of the people positively.

    “The aimed of this meeting is to discuss on the way forward on how to move youths activities, especially APC youths activities, in this area and the state at large to greater height.

    “We have resolved to commend Gov. Tanko Al-Makura for his developmental strides across all sectors of the economy which has impacted positively on the lives of the people of the state.

    “We have also resolved to commend Gov. Tanko Al-Makura for the recent construction of rural bridges and culverts across communities in the state.

    “The projects would help in fighting poverty, unemployment as well as boosting socio-economic activities and discourage crimes and rural-urban migration in the state.

    “The state government deserves commendation for constructing quality roads, culverts and bridges as it will also help in reducing the plight of the people as well as fighting youth restiveness,” he said.

    According to him, the importance of the provision of social amenities such as good roads, potable water, electricity and good health facilities, among others, cannot be over-emphasised to the development of the country, hence the need for the youths and people of the state to support Gov. Al-Makura to succeed.

    Abdullahi said that the youths of the area have also resolved to commend the member representing Udege/Loko constituency at the state House Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed Okpoku, for embarking on people oriented programmes such as construction of clinics, boreholes and bridges in the area.

    He called on youths in the state to continue to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities, remain peaceful and tolerate one another, irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation for the overall development of the country.

    The chairman added that no nation or society could develop in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion, noting that the security challenges facing some parts of the country had affected the lives and socio-economic development of the country negatively.

    The chairman also called on the people of the state to support President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Al-Makura’s administration to enable them succeed in the task of nation building.

     

  • Nasarawa: LG boss suspends youths` activities over leadership tussle

    The Overseer, Agwada Development Area in Nasarawa state, Mr Adamu Kasimu-Danlami, has suspended  All Progressives Congress youths forum`s activities in the area over leadership tussle in the interest of peace.

    Kasimu-Danlami gave the directive on Wednesday when some members of the forum paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Agwada, Agwada Development Area of the state.

    He urged the youths of the area to continue to be law-abiding, respect constituted authorities, adding that no meaningful development could be achieved in any society without peace.

    Kasimu-Danlami expressed sadness over the attitude of some members of the forum, who desired to become leaders at all cost, thereby causing division among the youths.

    “I will not fold my hands and watch some youths trying to instigate crisis in the council in the name of leadership because no meaningful progress could be achieved in any society in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion.”

    He urged youths to embrace education and skills acquisition programmes in order to be self-reliant and to contribute their quota to national development.

    He added that education is the bed rock of every society, hence the need for the youth to acquire both western and religion education.

    The council boss, who opined that knowledge is power, noted that when one is well informed he/she can go to places; even beyond the borders of his or her local milieu.

    “Without the contribution of youths, no nation, society could experience meaningful progress and development this is because youths are the pillar, foundation, backbone, agents of change and vanguard of peace of any nation.’’

    According to him, good education prepares one to impact positively on the society.

    ‘‘It prepares the mind of the youth for the leadership of their communities as no country can really develop unless its youths and citizens are educated,’’ he said.

    He called on the people of the state to support Gov. Tanko Al-Makura and Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari to enable their administrations succeed.

    The overseer reinstated his commitment to continue to key into positive policies and programmes that would have positive impact on the citizenry.

    NYSC to drive the Change Mantra- Buhari

    President Muhammadu Buhari said on Friday that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme would be used to drive his administration’s change mantra.

    The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that the president stated this at the swearing-in of 2016 Batch `A’ of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Keffi, Nasarawa state, Ise-Ekiti, Ekiti and Gusau in Zamfara.

    NAN reports that in Keffi (Nasarawa State), Buhari, represented by Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa state, said the Federal Government (FG) placed a high premium on the NYSC scheme.

    The President’s address was read in Ekiti by Mr Odunayo Adesoye, the Director of Youths, Ministry of Information, Youths and Sports Development, who represented Gov. Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti.

    Also in Keffi, the president’s speech was read by Alhaji Ishaq Galadima, Nasarawa state Commissioner for Youths and Sports on behalf of Gov. Tanko Al-Makura,

    The president said the scheme is useful because it had proved itself over the years to be a reliable vehicle in inculcating sacrifice and patriotism in Nigerian youths.

    “My dear corps members, the National Youth Service Corps which was established four decades ago has demonstrated its ability to remain relevant in the life cycle of the nation,” he said.

    The president said the Federal Government would continue to invest hugely in the youth.

    While the president decried the dwindling economy of the country, he assured that his administration would strive hard to ensure that challenges facing the nation’s economy would be a thing of the past.

    He, however, warned the new youth corps members to shun social vices such as cultism, kidnapping, armed robbery, drug peddling thuggery, prostitution, terrorism, militancy, cybercrimes, bunkering and the get-rich quick syndrome.

    “I charge you to use the various NYSC Community Development Services platforms at the grassroots to carry out public enlightenment and mobilisation for change in behaviour, thinking, cultural orientation and outlook,” he said.

    According to the president, one of the disturbing problems inherited by this administration is increasing unemployment among the young people, and that will soon be a thing of the past.

    “Thousands of graduates from the higher institutions of learning get frustrated daily as they search for non-existing jobs.

    “This is why this administration is anxious to recover illicit wealth to channel them to productive economic venture to absorb thousands into employment,” Buhari said.

    The President also charged corps members to work with enthusiasm to better the lives of their host communities.

    In his address of welcome, EKiti NYSC Coordinator, Mr Tobechi Ibeh, urged the corps members to be hard working in order to build an egalitarian society for the nation.

    Ibeh restated the commitment of the NYSC scheme to attitudinal change that would make the youths to be self-reliant.

    NAN reports that no fewer than 1,581 corps members comprising 902 male and 679 female in the 2016 Batch `A’ were administered oath of allegiance by the Ekiti Chief Judge, Justice Ayo Daramola.

    Also, NYSC State Coordinator in Nasarawa state, Mrs Habiba Bappah, said that out of the prospective corps members who reported to camp, a total of 1,935 corps members were duly registered.

    “This number is made up of 835 males and 1,100 females ready to be sworn in today,” she said.

    She then urged the new corps members to participate actively and take various the training sessions seriously; as the sessions were mapped out to give them a better future.

    In Gusau, Gov. Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara urged the 1, 600 corps members posted to the state to use the period of their service to acquire various entrepreneurship skills.

    According to Yari, who was represented by the state Commissioner of Youth, Skill Acquisition and Sports, Alhaji Abdullahi Gurbin-bore, these skills will assist them to be self reliant after the service year.

    “I call on you to use your service year to contribute to the development of our dear country by using the service period to enhance the national productivity,” he said.

    He advised the corps members to show respect to the values, culture and traditions of their respective host communities, while extending the benefits of national service to the grass roots level.

    Also, the Zamfara NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Ballama Bello, said the three weeks orientation programme was one of the cardinals of NYSC.

    However, Bello urged the corps members to be obedient to NYSC rules and regulations and avoid crimes and other social vices.

    NAN reports that the swearing-in was conducted by Justice Awwal Gummi on behalf of the state Chief Judge, Justice Kulu Aliyu.
