Why we have not probed Aliyu – Bello

Niger State governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has assured the people of the state his administration is not insensitive to the call for public probe of the immediate past administration of Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu.

The governor gave this reason in Minna, in a state wide broadcast to mark his administration 100 days in office.

According to him, “the call from certain quarters to institute Judicial Commission of Inquiry to probe the immediate past administration has not fallen unto deaf ears. However, my position and indeed that of our party the APC is to meticulously and professionally review the activities of the past administration”.

He said, “Interim report by the committee revealed some despicable patterns such as breach of due process and inflated contracts, non-compliance with financial guideline, huge cash withdrawals by government officials, private individuals and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officials and members.”

The governor then assured that as soon as the Committee finalizes its work, the full findings will be made public and handed over to the Security Agencies for necessary action taken against those culpable

Short of saying that the probe has commenced, the governor said the exercise will be devoid of the drama that characterized the past exercise in the state.

Reacting to the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku’s allegation that the 19 governors in the North are not doing enough at curbing insecurity in the region, the Chairman of the Forum, Dr. Babangida Aliyu said the “blame game must stop.”

The governor said, “If it was his (Minister) view, it was unfortunate. If it is the view of the Federal Government, it is very uncharitable, it is more than unfortunate.

“I think it is part of the hypocrisy because no governor as far as I know can be accused of not doing enough. As Chairman of Northern State Governors’ Forum, I can say that no governor can be accused of not doing enough particularly, with the circumstances that we find ourselves.”

Aliyu continued, “I am not aware of any governor invited by the National Security Adviser (NSA) and told of what to do and he did not do it. I am not aware of that.”

He said that instead of accusing the governors, it was the federal government that delayed in nipping the security challenges in the bud.

…Pact must not exceed three months – Governor

The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has cautioned that agreement with the international community offering assistance to the country in the search for the abducted Chibok schoolgirls should not exceed three months.

Aliyu, who spoke in Minna on Wednesday, said the apprehension the support has generated necessitated his call on the federal government to be extra careful.

United States, United Kingdom, France and Belgium have offered to assist in rescuing the abducted girls and provide intelligence support for the country’s armed forces.
Experts from US are already in the country in the bid to rescue the girls.

Aliyu said, “it is a normal thing for the country to seek assistance in the fight against insurgency, but people are apprehensive and we must be careful with the agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding to be signed.”

He regretted that a nation that is seen “as a peace keeper” now needs the assistance of the international community to maintain peace within its territory, saying that Nigerians should rally round the federal government to ensure peace return to all parts of the country.

Niger State governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has boastfully predicted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will win the 2015 Presidential elections and the governorship seat in the state despite the challenges facing the party.

He said, “PDP will form the next federal government, PDP will win the governorship election in Niger state in 2015. We will do it with clean hands and we will not slaughter cows or donkeys to offer sacrifices to achieve these.”

The governor also appealed to Nigerians to always pray for the country to have good leaders.

“May God give us good officials to continue with developmental programmes and who will not go into the politics of sharing money amongst themselves.

“We need to pray for good leaders because when you have bad leaders, the people themselves would become bad, the environment would be saturated with badness and even the good people will begin to fear about their policies.
