It was jubilation galore in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the inauguration of the 1.2-kilometre Nzegwu Okoye Road by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The project was funded and executed by the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emeka, under Soludo’s Public-Private-Community Partnership (PPCP) model.

Speaking during the inauguration, the governor said true measure of prestige was no longer found in titles, but in the tangible impact made through community service and local ownership.

He says rather than waiting for government’s intervention, the ‘Anambra Spirit’ thrives when individuals take ownership of their environment.

“Sense of community is the foundation for the progress of Anambra,” he added.

Describing the monarch’s gesture as perfect alignment with his administration’s philosophy, Soludo encouraged further private, community investment in public infrastructure.

He highlighted his standing pledge to any citizen ready to step up, stressing, “once you build it, I’ll come and inaugurate it.”

The governor utilised the platform to challenge the elite to rethink their contributions to the society.

He urged well-meaning individuals to pivot from ceremonial displays of wealth toward substantive community service.

“By following Igwe Emeka’s lead, citizens become partners in governance; ensuring development is not just ‘government-owned’ but ‘people-owned,’ the governor said.

The benefactor appreciated the governor for gracing the event, expressing confidence that the road would enhance mobility, boost commerce, among others.

    Chidoka endorses Soludo for re-election

Former Minister of Aviation and public policy advocate, Chief Osita Chidoka, has endorsed the re-election bid of Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo ahead of the November 8 exercise.

Speaking during a live radio interview in Anambra on Wednesday, Chidoka described Soludo as “a model for the Anambra of our dreams.”

He praised Soludo’s exceptional credentials, visionary leadership and tangible achievements over the past three years.

He emphasised that the November 8 exercise  was not just a political contest but “a serious and fundamental decision about the future of Anambra State.”

According to him, Soludo remained the kind of man he wants his son to emulate.

He said: “The question before us is not what candidates are saying today, but who truly represents the future we want to build.

“Among all the governorship candidates, who would I want my son to be like? My answer is clear: Governor Charles Soludo.”

Invoking the iconic Cuban tradition where children declare “We want to be like Che” in honour of revolutionary leader Che Guevara, Chidoka called for a similar vision in Anambra.

“We must begin to think in generational terms.

“Like the children of Cuba who saw Che as a model of courage and purpose, our children should look up to leaders like Soludo.

“First Class brain, former CBN Governor, global thinker, and a committed public servant.

“That is the future I want for Anambra.”

Chidoka further commended Soludo’s focus on education, revealing his joint efforts in developing a model for free basic education across the state.

He described education as the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty.

He praised the Governor’s commitment to making quality education accessible to every child.

“Soludo’s inclusive leadership style and ability to surround himself with capable individuals who drive impactful change is laudable.

“His capacity to identify talent is critical to sustainable governance,” he added.

Highlighting the innovative Homeland Security Law 2025, Chidoka praised the administration’s bold approach to security, which makes landlords, communities, and religious institutions active stakeholders in crime prevention.

He described the law as “a national template for proactive, morally grounded, and technologically enabled security governance.”

He said: “He is the standard-bearer for the Anambra of tomorrow—and that is why I fully support his re-election.”

Minimum wage: Soludo, labour leaders’ meeting ends in deadlock

The meeting between Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and leaders of organised labour in the state over a new minimum wage for the state’s workers ended in a deadlock on Tuesday.

    The deliberations dragged into yesterday.

The governor allegedly failed to fulfill his promise of paying the N70,000 minimum wage the Federal Government declared early this year after negotiations with labour leaders.

The Nation gathered that during the Tuesday’s meeting, the governor reportedly said a Level Nine worker would receive less than the N70,000.

The development angered the labour leaders who nearly staged a walkout on the governor.

Despite the fact that some other states, like Rivers, Lagos, Enugu, Ebonyi, Ogun, and Delta, are paying beyond Federal Government’s N70,000, Anambra has reportedly pegged its minimum wage on the same amount.

The governor was said to have promised to begin the payment of the new minimum wage this month.

But The Nation gathered that Soludo might be heading towards a showdown with the workers over his inability to fulfil his promise.

Some labour leaders told our correspondent last yesterday before the continuation of the meeting that they were not happy with the governor’s “body language”.

A labour leader, who spoke in confidence, said: “When we met with him last week, he made us happy by saying that nobody would go home with less than N70,000. We applauded him and the workers were happy. But today, he’s sounding a different tone that is not part of what we discussed earlier.

“He cannot play on our intelligence. We represent the workers. How can people who have attained Levels Eight to 10 take home less than the Federal Government’s N70,000? Is Anambra different from other states?”

The labour leader urged the work force not to panic as further negotiations continued.

“We will address our people after the series of our meetings with the governor,” he added.
