The Presidency has announced the historic appointment of Ms Grace Morenike Henry as the new Chairman of the National Council of the Nigerian Legion.
This appointment, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, marks a significant milestone as Ms Henry becomes the first female and first non-commissioned officer to assume the leadership of Nigeria’s foremost veterans’ organization.
The spokesperson for the Nigerian Legion, Abdul Lauya, made this known in a statement made available to Channels Television on Thursday.
He said that the appointment, conveyed through a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, takes effect from June 7, 2025.

1. Grace Morenike Henry was born on October 5, 1964.
2. She brings over 25 years of distinguished service experience, having retired from the Nigerian Army in the year 2000.
2. Morenike began her career in the Nigerian Army as a Dental Nurse.
3. She participated in numerous military trainings during her service.
4. She is a respected veteran who has dedicated her life to supporting ex-servicemen and vulnerable populations.
5. She is the Coordinator and Pioneer of the Female Military Veteran Association (FMVA).

6. Until her appointment, she was the Director of Corporate Affairs, National Headquarters, Nigerian Legion.
7. She is the Chief Executive Officer of Hengramore Care Home, a voluntary organisation providing care and support.
8. Morenike has worked to align the Nigerian Legion with international veteran organizations in the UK, US, and Canada.
9. She is known for championing support for women, children, and vulnerable veterans.
10. She is involved in initiatives for the welfare of ex-servicemen and the families of deceased veterans.
11. She is described as dedicated, experienced, and a compassionate mother.
12. Morenike succeeds Maj. Gen. AbdulMalik Jibrin (rtd).
