  • Sokoto assembly APC lawmakers donate form to Guber aspirant

THE twelve All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers of the Sokoto State House of Assembly on Friday purchased and donated the governorship nomination and expression form to a frontline and one of the hot contenders of the party’s Governorship ticket, Hon.Farouk Malami Yabo.

The form was picked for the aspirant in the afternoon in Abuja.

The lawmakers gesture is coming two days after the state chapter of the party resolved at its meeting to adopt the Indirect method of primaries.

Similarly, the move seem to be a clear signal that the aspirant may have garnered for himself the unshaken support of the legislators to sail through at the upcoming primaries.

Yabo is said to be one of the three contenders believed to be eyeing the state number one seat ahead of the 2019 polls.

However, others believed to be jostling for the position within the party include sitting Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto and former Minister of Transport/ Youths and Sport, Yusuf Suleiman who recently defected to the party.

Accordingly, Yabo is coming from same Southern senatorial zone with Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal while Suleiman and Aliyu Sokoto are from the Eastern and Central zones respectively.

  • Ogun 2019: Neither APC nor PDP will win – Guber aspirant

Ogun 2019: Neither APC nor PDP will win – Guber aspirant

Babasola Adebonojo Adegbuyi, a governor-ship aspirant in Ogun state, has predicted that neither the All Progressives Congress (APC) nor the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will win the 2019 governorship election in the state, adding that the brewing crises in the two frontline political parties would be their nemesis in the forthcoming general elections.

Adegbuyi, who is currently the Lagos State treasurer of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) said that the change promised the people of the state by the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration has remained elusive while the people are yet to forget the gory experience they had under the PDP.

“For me, there is no talk of joining either the APC or the PDP because the two parties can no longer win elections in Ogun state. Our people are now wiser and they know what is good for them. They have tasted what the two parties have to offer and they now know that governance is more about the person rather than the party. Moreover, I don’t see how the two parties will survive the crises rocking them now.

“That is why I have come forward to say I want to serve as the next governor of the state but not on the platform of APC or PDP. I am sure the people are ready to vote for someone who has good plans and the political will to change things for better. I don’t want to be a governor that will submit the collective patrimony of the state to godfathers or contractors. I want to be the governor of the people.

The youthful politician pledged to bring his private sector experiences to bear on the administration of the state if elected governor. He cited the example of Lagos state where successive administrations have combined both public and private sector participation to better the lot of the people of their state. According to him, what Ogun state needs most now is a leader with the appropriate foresight.

“Once we elect a governor that can look deep into the problems and prospect of our state  and take appropriate decisions, Ogun will blossom. The state is blessed with immense potentials. We just need a leadership that can tap into these. And that is the type of leadership I am offering to give to Ogun state come 2019,” he said.

Ondo guber aspirant laments relocation of Dangote Refinery

A shipping magnate and governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, Prince Folusho Adefemi, yesterday criticised the alleged relocation of the proposed Dangote Refinery from Ondo state to another location in Lagos state. According to him, the refinery project would have provided more than 500,000 skilled, semi-skilled and non-skilled labour force in the state.

Speaking after his tour of the 18 local government areas to mobilise delegates for next month’s primary election, Adefemi promised that the refinery would be relocated to the state as he would use his cordial relationship with Alhaji Aliko Dangote, if he eventually gets the mandate of the people as governor, to urge a rethink.

He noted that the loss of the project was due to the selfishness of some people at the helm of affairs in the state. The business man expressed disappointment with the alleged level of decadence and profligacy under the present government in the state.

According to him, the over seven years of PDP’s government in the state focused more on playing politics than serving the people. Adefemi particularly flayed the state government for abandoning many projects meant to raise the standard of living of the masses. He urged the leadership of the APC to conduct a credible and transparent primary election.

Guber aspirant laments Ondo workers’ plight

Public workers in Ondo State currently reeling under the pains of accumulated unpaid salaries have been urged to expect a new dawn, as the current “reign of darkness” will soon come to an and. A governorship aspirant on the platform of Citizens Popular Party, (CPP) Prince Peter Oyeleye Fasua, gave the admonition in a Workers Day message he issued yesterday.

Fasua, an indigene of Akure, said it was not only appalling but also disgraceful that despite the fact that Ondo State is an oil-producing state, the state government cannot pay workers’ salaries for upwards of five months.

“It is tragic and an ironic twist that Ondo State workers have not been paid for five months despite that workers’ salary is only a fraction of the income accruing to the state both as federal allocation and oil derivation revenue. I want to appeal to our suffering workers to endure till we effect the genuine change on the platform of the CPP, which is coming to rescue the people from this modern slavery,” he said.

Fasua added by appealing to Governor Segun Mimiko to consider the plight of the workers and pay up their outstanding salaries and retired workers’ pension. He also observed that last year, the state government sacked close to 2,000 civil servants, especially newly recruited teachers, yet it has been unable to meet its obligations to the few ones left in its employ.

The aspirant assured that the CPP administration, if voted in, would first tackle poor power supply, unemployment and hunger.

Guber aspirant, four others re-arraigned for fraud

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) Thursday re-arraigned a governorship aspirant in Nasarawa State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Yusuf Agabi, and four others before a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, on charges of alleged N605m fraud.

Agabi, a former director at the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and others were re-arraigned before Justice Adegboyega Adeniyi on a 46- count of fraud.

Those arraigned with Agabi are Akpore Okeroghene (Deputy Director of Finance), Abibu Ayinla (Director of Finance), Idowu Adewale (Deputy Director Accounts) and Ngozi James (Deputy Director Accounts).

The re-arraignment was informed by the re-assignment of the case to Justice Adeniyi from Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf.

The case was re-assigned to Justice Adenyi following a petition by some of the accused persons to the court’s Chief Judge, Justice Ishaq Bello, accusing Justice Baba Yusuf of bias in his handling of the case.

The prosecution had already called one of its witnesses before the case was transferred to Justice Adeniyi.

The accused pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them. They were said to have fraudulently withdrawn N605m from the Constituency Project account of the ministry without authorization.

It also alleged that the accused persons perpetrated the fraud using fictitious claims through payment vouchers containing false information. Some of them were said to have used the proceeds to build private houses.

After the arraignment, Justice Adeniyi ordered that the accused persons should continue to enjoy the bail earlier granted by Justice Baba-Yusuf and adjourned to March 1 for the commencement of trial.
