    Electrician docked for alleged criminal trespass

    A 35-year-old electrician, Olumide Oni, was on Monday arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for alleged criminal trespass.

    The defendant, a resident of NEPA junction, Apo, Abuja, was charged with criminal trespass; attempt to commit an offence and being in possession of suspected stolen items.

    The prosecutor, Donaldtus Abbah, told the court that one Olufemi Samuel of Apo resettlement, Abuja, reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on Aug. 6.

    He said that the complainant and some friends attended a vigil in a church on Aug. 6 and decided to sleep in their cars.

    Abbah said that all of a sudden, the defendant trespassed into the church auditorium, attempted to steal but was arrested by the complainant.

    He said that three energy bulbs, a cell phone and a small Bible were seen in the defendant’s possession.

    The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348, 95 and 319 of the Penal Code.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

    He adjourned the case until Oct. 9 for hearing.

    Men arraigned for allegedly damaging Peugeot 307 at party

    Two men — 24-year-old trader, Dini Yahaya and 22-year-old tiler, Ifuna Rabo — were on Friday brought before a Gudu Upper Area Court in the Federal Capital Territory for allegedly assaulting a man and damaged his Peugeot 307 salon car. ‎
    The defendants, who reside at Karomajigi, Abuja, were docked on charges of mischief, criminal conspiracy and assault.
    Police Prosecutor Fidelix Ogbobe told the court that the complainant, Adams Nubia, reported the case at Wuye Police Station on July 30.
    He said the defendants and four others now at large, entered Second Edition Bar, Karomajigi, Abuja, and attempted to snatch phones from guests at a party held on July 29.
    According to Ogbobe, the complainant, who was at the bar at his friend’s party, tried to stop them but they fought him and damaged his Peugeot 307.
    The offences contravened Sections 96, 265 and 327 of the Penal Code.
    The defendants pleaded not guilty.
    The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted them bail in the sum of N20, 000 each with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case until Oct. 11 for hearing.

    Court remands five men over robbery

    A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday ordered the remand of five men, docked for alleged criminal conspiracy and robbery.

    The suspects: Gambo Hassan, 20, Awolu Abubakar, 26, Abdulahi Salisu, 21, Hassan Usman , 38, and Musa Bilyamina,28, were alleged to have robbed one Bosede Oludare.

    The defendants were alleged to have robbed their victim of items worth N3.5 million, and N1.3million cash.

    All the defendants denied committing the offence.

    The judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, ordered that the suspects be remanded in prison pending the conclusion of investigations into the matter and adjourned the case until July 31.

    He said that their bail application should come through motion by their counsel.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Umoh Inah, told the court that one Mrs Bosede Oludare of Life Camp reported the matter at Garki Police Station on June 8.

    Inah said that the case was reported through a security alert and a police patrol team deployed to the area tracked down the alleged gang of robbers.

    He said that the five suspected were all arrested while others were still at large.

    “During police investigations, it was discovered that items valued over N3.5million were stolen from the victim and N1.3million cash,’’ Inah said.

    The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 298 of the Penal Code.

    Man attempts to steal water tank,gets N50, 000 bail

    A man, Mohammed Ibrahim, who allegedly attempted to steal a water tank at an estate in Abuja,
    was on Thursday released on a N50, 000 bail on the orders of a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja.

    The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, who gave the ruling, also granted Ibrahim one surety in like sum.

    The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing charges of criminal trespass and attempted stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.

    Police Prosecutor Fedelix Ogubwe told the court that a man, Joseph Samuel of NIBECO Estate, Lokogoma, Abuja, reported the case at the Apo Police Station on May 28.

    He said Samuel, who is head of the security guards in the estate, caught Ibrahim while attempting to steal the water tank.

    According to him, the accused scaled the fence to break into the estate.

    The offence contravened Sections 95 and 348 of the Penal Code.

    Further hearing has been adjourned until July 26

    Four men docked for causing public disturbance

    Four unemployed men on Wednesday appeared before a Gudu Upper Area Court in Abuja for allegedly inciting disturbances.‎

    The men are Samuel Ezeala, 25, Ibrahim Umar, 22, Ibrahim Shilu 23 and Zadine Yahaya, 24.

    They were arraigned on charges of joint-act and inciting disturbances at a public peace.‎

    ‎The Prosecutor, Fedelix Ogubwe, told court that one Abubakar Umar of the Chief’s Palace in Garki, Abuja reported the matter at the Garki Police Station on May 29.

    Ogubwe said the defendants and 16 other men now at large were found at Apo Roundabout, Abuja using sticks, cutlasses and iron in beating one another.

    He said that the action caused a breach of public peace, adding that the offence contravened Sections 97 and 114 of the Penal Code.

    The accused men, however, pleaded guilty but Umar pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N20, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.

    He adjourned hearing on the matter and reserved sentencing and conviction of Ezeala, Shilu and Yahaya until June 2.

     

  • Man docked for inflicting injury on policeman’s lip

    ‎A 30-year-old man, Ali Sale, was on Friday arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly injuring a policemen on the lip.‎

    He was docked on charges bordering on ‎joint act and voluntarily causing hurt without provocation.‎

    ‎The prosecutor‎, Fedelix Ogubwe, had told the court that one Sgt. Zakari Sale, of the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, reported the matter at the Garki Police Station on May 10.

    He said that the complainant went to Garki to buy food, and suddenly the defendant; one Genesis and two others at large‎, attacked him and beat him up.‎
    He said in the process the complainant was seriously injured on the lip and was taken to the Police Hospital, where he spent N14, 700 for treatment.
    The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 76 and 246 of the Penal Code.
    The defendant, however, denied committing the offences.

    Man docked over alleged N1m forex trading fraud

    A man, Taiwo Sunday, accused of N1million foreign exchange fraud was on Wednesday arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja.

    He was docked on charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal intimidation.‎

    The prosecutor‎, Donatus Abbah, had told the court that‎ one Uchenna Anyanwu, reported the matter to the FCT Commissioner of Police, on Feb. 22.

    Abbah said the defendant and one Ogedengbe Monday introduced the plaintiff to a forex trading business, conspired and collected N1,008,000‎ from him.

    Abbah said police investigation revealed that the defendant did not have any existing business and when the plaintiff demanded for his money, he threatened to kill him‎.
    He said the offences contravened Sections 97, 312, 322 and 397 of the Penal Code.

    The accused, however, denied committing the offences.


    ‎The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted Sunday bail in the sum of N1.1 million and one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until July 17 for hearing.

    Court remands five men for abduction

    A Gudu Upper Area Court in Abuja on Tuesday remanded five men in prison for allegedly abducting two men and stealing 65 cows.

    The men are Isiya Abubakar, Bello Umar, Avdo Musa, Wakili Nmaje and Idi Ahmadu‎.

    They were arraigned on a five-count charge of criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, theft, robbery and unlawful possession of arms.

    The Prosecutor, Umoh Inah, told court that one Koge and Ampur Buburmi of Kushika Village, Abuja, were kidnapped since March 12.‎

    Inah said that investigations by a team from the office of the inspector- general of police revealed that the suspects conspired and kidnapped the two who were yet to be found.

    He also said that no fewer than 65 cows belonging to the abducted men were stolen by the defendants.

    The prosecutor said further that five other members of the gang were believed to be keeping the stolen cows.

    He said the offences contravened Sections 97, 273, 287, 298 and 319 of the Penal Code.

    The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty. (NAN)

    The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, adjourned the case till April 18 for consideration of bail of the suspects.

    He fixed hearing of the case to June 14.

  • Businessman docked for alleged issuance of dud cheques

    A businessman, Sunday Ukabia, was on Monday arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly issuing four Diamond Bank dud cheques to the tune of N5 million to one Mr Henry Ebuka.

    Ukabia, of Banex Plaza Wuse II, is facing a count charge of cheating.

    The prosecutor, Mr Fidelis Ogbobe, had told the court that one Mr Henry Ebuka, of Suite 25, Emas Plaza, Wuse II reported the matter at the FCT Police Command on March 21.

    He said during police investigation, it was discovered that the defendant issued the complainant with four Diamond Bank cheques amounting to N5 million.

    The cheques were dated Dec.14, 2015, Nov. 10, 2013 and Feb.11, 2014 respectively.

    Ogbobe said when the cheques were presented in the bank, they were all dishonoured for lack of funds in the account.

    He also said that during police investigations, the defendant admitted issuing the cheques.

    He said the offence was contrary to Section 322 of Penal Code.

    The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N5.5 million, with one surety in like sum.
    He adjourned hearing till May 24.

  • Man docked for alleged theft, gets N8.1m bail

    A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday granted N8.1million bail to 23-year-old man, Najim Janedu, docked for allegedly stealing 92 doors and windows worth N8million.

    The judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, granted the defendant bail after he pleaded not guilty to two-count charge of joint act and theft preferred against him.

    The judge also ordered the defendant to produce a reliable surety who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

    He adjourned hearing till May 17.

    The prosecutor, Mr Fidelis Ogbobe, had told the court that one Franklin Banjo of Suite 36, Lungi Barracks reported the matter at Apo Police Station on Jan.16.

    Ogbobe said that the complainant alleged that on Jan.15, he was on patrol of beats, as the Security Manager of Immaculate Security Service, Abuja.

    “It was while on patrol that he discovered that one Gowon Abraham, a security guard of the company, now at large, “criminally formed a common intention with the defendant,’’ Ogbobe said.

    “They stole 92 doors and windows worth N8million that were kept in the building,’’ he said.

    The prosecutor also said that during police investigations, the phone of Gowon Abraham who is now at large was found in the possession of the defendant.

    He said that the defendant could not “even give account of his action.’’

    The offences were contrary to Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.
