  • Gunmen abduct APC chieftain in Rivers

    Gunmen have abducted a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Mr. Nnamdi Abbah.

    This happened less than 24 hours after another leader, Mr. Boris Neenwi, was killed in Tai Local Government.

    Abbah, an ex-Caretaker Committee chairman of Emohua Local Government, was kidnapped at gunpoint on Tuesday night on Alakahia axis of East-West Road, Obio/Akpor Local Government.

    The victim, according to a source, was abducted about 8pm. while returning home.

    The source said the victim was driving towards Obiri Ikwerre, close to Ozuoba, when he was kidnapped.

    Confirming the incident, Chizy Enyi, the victim’s relation, said no contact had been made with the abductors.

    Police spokesman Nnamdi Omoni said: “I’m not aware of the incident. I will find out from the DPO.”

    One killed as gunmen abduct Ijaw musician

    Gunmen yesterday abducted a popular Ijaw musician Pereama Freetown at Polako community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

    It was gathered that before Freetown was seized, the gunmen also killed a resident, Ebikabowei Mbu, and injured a few others, whose identities could not be ascertained last night.

    The incident reportedly occurred at 3am during a wake.

    The hoodlums were said to have opened fire on the people, forcing everyone to scamper for safety. A source, who spoke in confidence, said the gunmen came on a speedboat through the Polako River.

    He said: “They came, seized the musician and opened fire in the area. People ran to different directions. Many people were injured.

    “Two persons, a male and a female, lay on the ground after being hit by bullets. One, the male, was confirmed dead on the spot but the female, whom we thought was dead, later regained consciousness. It was a terrible experience.”

    Police spokesman Butswat Asinim, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), confirmed the incident.

    He said: “On November 15, at 03.00 hours, some gunmen invaded Polako Community in Yenagoa Local Government Area and abducted Pereama Freetown, a popular musician.

    “While escaping with the victim, the unknown gunmen shot sporadically, killing one Ebikabowei Umbu (M), 37 years.

    “They escaped through the Polako River to an unknown place. The Marine Police, Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Operation Pulo Shield are searching for the victim and on the trail of the suspects.”

    Gunmen abduct Adamawa lawmaker

    Unknown gunmen have kidnapped the member representing Toungo Constituency in the Adamawa House of Assembly, Alhaji Adamu Usman.

    Usman was said to have been kidnapped by the gunmen who stormed his residence at Kofare Ward of Yola around midnight last Friday.

    Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Adamawa Police Command, Othman Abubakar, said the lawmaker was taken away at gunpoint.

    He however said that the police were investigating the incident.

    Usman is one of the only two members of Adamawa Assembly who won their re-election for a second term after defecting from PDP to APC in the just-concluded general elections.

    The incident brings to three the number of kidnapping recorded in the state within six months.

    NAN recalls that Alhaji Sani Ribadu, a brother to Malam Nuhu Ribadu and Wilson Gundiri, a brother to Engr Markus Gundiri were earlier kidnapped but later released.

    Gundiri was the Adamawa SDP gubernatorial candidate in the just-concluded general elections.

     

     

  • Gunmen abduct PPMC staffer in Rivers

    The Police Command in Rivers State has confirmed the abduction of a senior staff of the Pipelines, Products Marketing Company, Okrika Area Office, an affiliate of the Port Harcourt Refining Company.

    Mr Ben Ugwuegbulam, the spokesman of the command, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Friday.

    Ugwuegbulam said that the victim was a Deputy Manager at the PPMC, adding that the manager was abducted at Ozuoba in the outskirts of Port Harcourt on Jan.3.

    “The details of the incident are still sketchy. Our anti-kidnap unit has commenced investigation into the incident. We will give you more details as soon as we get them,” he said. He said no group had claimed responsibility for the abduction and no ransom had been demanded.
