  • Breaking: Gunmen assassinate Imo APC Chieftain

    Gunmen suspected to be hired assassins on Friday morning  killed an All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government Chairman, Mr. Sunny Ejeagwu.

    The victim was the APC Chairman for Ideato North Council Area of the state.

  • Gunmen kill CBN worker in Zamfara

    Zamfara Police Command has confirmed the killing of a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) worker in Gusau, Kabiru Zango by gunmen.

    Spokesman Muhammad Shehu said in a statement Zango was shot dead at his home in Gusau on Friday.

    “The Zamfara State Police Command wishes to confirm an incident of culpable homicide, which occurred on July 20 at Gada Biyu in Gusau metropolis,” he said.

    Shehu added that the assailants entered the deceased’s home, about 3:30 am, and shot him through his bedroom window.

    He said the incident was reported at the Gusau Central Police Station but that before the police arrived the scene the two assailants had fled.

    The spokesman said the deceased was taken to hospital by the police.

    He added the assailants did not steal the deceased’s belongings.  Shehu said the police had begun investigations”

     

  • Gunmen kidnap lecturer, PDP chieftain

    •Lecturer’s family beg abductors

    A lecturer in the Bayelsa State-owned Niger Delta University (NDU) Amassoma Dr. Ndutimi Dudafa and a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Bibi Oweifa have been abducted by gunmen.

    It was gathered Dudafa was whisked away from his home in Gbarantoru in Yenagoa  Local Government Area at about 8pm last Thursday.

    He was reportedly driven way on a speedboat parked at the waterfront by the assailants.

    But Oweifa was said to have been accosted by the gunmen at the state secretariat annex in Yenagoa.

    Oweifa was rumoured to have concluded plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following his ambition to contest the state’s House of Assembly seat.

    It was learnt the politician, an indigene of Bumoundi, in Ekpetiama clan, Yenagoa was kidnapped at about 3:30 pm on Friday.

    The gunmen, who were dressed in military fatigue, bundled their victim’s Personal Assistant out of the vehicle and took Oweifa away.

    Oneida is the Vice-Chairman of the state peace and reconciliation committee.

    On July 11, youths, elders and women of Gbarain/Ekpetiama, adopted him as their sole candidate for Yenagoa Constituency 2.

    The family of Dudafa, the abducted lecturer, confirmed the travails of their son and appealed to the kidnappers to release the don unconditionally.

    The elder brother to the victim, Chief Ineye, described the incident as unfortunate.

    He said the family is going through trying times due to the unfortunate incident, stressing the family has been traumatised by the sudden abduction of the Sociology department lecturer.

    “We are appealing for his unconditional release in the name of God, let them consider that God exists and free him.

    “We are passing through a traumatised period because of this unfortunate abduction of my brother. I appeal to the security agencies to do everything humanly possible to have him released”.

    But when contacted, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Asinim Butswat said he was yet to be briefed on the incidents.

     

  • Gunmen kill two in Zamfara market

    The Zamfara State Police command confirmed on Friday that two persons were killed by unknown gunmen in Bungudu local government area of the state.

    Three other persons were injured in the attack.

    The Command’s spokesman, Muhammad Shehu, said the incident occurred on Thursday evening at Karakai market.

    He said: “There were sporadic gun shots by unknown gunmen at the market. We recorded the death of two persons while three others were injured.

    “During the attack, the police team at the market could not exchange fire with the attackers to avoid further loss of lives and property.

    “However, the attackers used the crowd as human shield to escape from the scene.

    “Normalcy has been restored with patrol teams keeping vigilance in the affected environs.

    “Investigation has commenced with a view to fishing out and arresting the perpetrators of the attack.”

  • Gunmen kill motorcyclist in Ibadan

    A yet-to-be-identified motorcyclist was shot dead yesterday by gunmen.

    The incident occurred at new Adeoyo Hospital Road, Fodasis, Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

    A correspondent of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who visited the scene, said the body was found by the roadside.

    NAN learnt the man was shot in the chest, about 5:40 am, by gunmen after stealing his motorcycle.

    A witness, who preferred anonymity, told NAN the gunmen were leaving with the motorcycle, but they returned to shoot the victim, who shouted for help.

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

  • Gunmen kill couple in Anambra

    Gunmen on Saturday night killed a man and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ifekandu.

    The incident occurred at Umuota village, Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government of Anambra State.

    The Nation learnt that the suspects were allegedly contracted by people believed to be involved in a land dispute with the deceased.

    A source, who pleaded anonymity, said the suspects were yet to be arrested.

    “The incident occurred close to the palace of the traditional ruler.

    “The couple, after having dinner, went to bed. The incident happened at night. Neighbours said they heard gunshots,” the source added.

    The Nation gathered that the deceased were the only ones attacked in the house. The attackers did not steal anything.

    Police spokesman Haruna Mohammed said investigation was on.

    He urged the public to assist the police with information that would lead to the arrest of the killers.

     

  • Gunmen kidnap Chinese in Zamfara

    Gunmen have abducted a Chinese national in Zamfara State, Mr. Ren Dajun, it was learnt yesterday.

    A statement by the police spokesman, Muhammad Shehu, said Dajun “is a staff of the China Geological Cooperation (CGC) at Birnin-Tudu, Bakura Local Government Area.

    The victim was abducted on Wednesday about 2pm in a bush.

    Shehu said the command’s search/rescue team and anti-kidnapping squad have embarked on coordinated bush combing to rescue the victim and arrest the assailants.

    He said: “The command advises the citizens to be security conscious and report strange and suspicious elements to security agents.”

  • Gunmen disrupt funeral in Benue community

    There was pandemonium at the weekend in Nyamatsor, Mbagen, Mbazagee in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State when gunmen suspected to be cultists stormed a funeral in the town.

    The funeral rites for Ayol Vehe, an engineer, were said to have gone halfway when the hoodlums, mainly youths, stormed the place at 8.30 a.m with guns, cutlasses and clubs and shots at the mourners.

    It was not clear last night if they got their target.

    Dignitaries were said to have scampered for safety as the hoodlums shot into the air.

    A leader of the Traditional Rulers Council of the local government, Chief Moses Hangeior, was reportedly smuggled away by his security aides.

    The late Vehe worked in three local government areas of Gboko, Vandeikya and Buruku.

    He was transferred to Katsina Ala Local Government Area as Head of Buildings.

    It was gathered that the son of the deceased by one of his two wives allegedly mobilised his friends to disrupt the funeral.

    Some youths were said to have arrested one of the gunmen and handed him over to the police at Abwa.

    It was learnt that a disagreement ensued in the the family over the arrest.

    Some elders reportedly mounted pressure on the police to release the suspect, saying it was a family matter.

    A source at the Gboko Area Police Command told The Nation that the command had not received the report on the incident.

     

  • Gunmen disrupt funeral in Benue community

    There was pandemonium  in Nyamatsor, Mbagen , Mbazagee, Buruku Local Government area of Benue State at the weekend  as gunmen suspected to cultist disrupted a burial funeral rites .

    Halfway into the ceremony, youths  with guns, cutlasses and club stormed the venue and shot at mourners .

    It was not clear if they got their target .

    Many dignitaries , including the traditional ruler  of Buruku Local government council Chief Moses Hangeior , who attended the funeral fled for their lives . The traditional ruler was smuggled  away be his security aides .

    The gunmen stormed the funeral venue at about 8;30pm when funeral rites were going on and shot sporadically into the air to scale away mourners .

    The burial  was the funeral of Late  Engr. Ayol  Vehe, a respected local Government engineer who served as Head of Department ( HOD) works in three local Government areas namely Gboko, Vandeikya and Buruku LGAs.

    Before his demise, he was transferred to Katsina Ala local government as  Head of Buildings .

    The Nation gathered that the deceased had two wives and it was one of his children that mobilized his friends to disrupts the burial.

    Youths however mobilized and arrested a member of the gun men and handed him over to Police  in Abwa.

    There was however disagreement among the families as some elders mounted pressure on the police officer in Abwa to released the suspecting saying its a family matter .

    Gboko Area police command told The Nation that he was yet yo get the report.

  • Gunmen kidnap siblings in Ondo, demand N15m

    Two siblings, Alhaji Busari Olusa and Saka Olusa, from Ora quarters in Ajowa, Akoko Northwest local government area of Ondo State, have been kidnapped. The incident happened barely two weeks after the wife of Alauga of Auga-Akoko in the same vicinity, Olori Olukemi Agunloye and the driver, were seized for four days. They regained freedom after paying an undisclosed ransom.

    The two brothers were reportedly kidnapped by abductors, who left their highlander Toyota Jeep behind. The duo, according to a community leader from Ajowa Akoko, Chief Ahmed Asagunla, were going to Akunu-Akoko East to visit a relation when the ugly incident happened. The people of the community lamented the insecurity in the area due to the activities of the miscreants.

    The family of those kidnnaped had been reached by the gunmen who demanded N15m as ransom for their release. The Police Area Commander for Akoko, Razak Rauf, has ordered the immediate combing of the bush in the axis to rescue those in captivity. Recently, a stakeholders’ meeting on security situation in Akoko axis was held to find a lasting solution to incessant kidnapping, robbery and other criminality in the area. It was attended by Security agents,traditional rulers and community leaders,who are concerned on the development in the area.
