Flying winger Amos Gyang believes Kano Pillars can return to the top of Nigerian football if they put what happened last season behind them.
The former Giwa FC ace said he has always known Pillars to be an ambitious club and the current personnel have it all in their hands to make a lasting impression when the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season gets underway on January 15, 2017.
“Kano Pillars remains a force to be reckoned with in Nigeria. But we weren’t in the top three last term,” Gyang told Goal.
“We know these things happen in football that one season you can win the league and the other you can be relegated.
“There are two trophies to play for this season and hopefully, either the league title or Federation Cup will come to Kano Pillars.”

Gyang delighted with Kano Pillars’ pre-season
Amos Gyang has said that he is enjoying pre-season with Kano Pillars.
The former Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions under the guidance of coach Kadiri Ikhana are currently in Lokoja preparing for next season.
“It has been good out here in Lokoja. We want to get in our rhythm as soon as possible so we are enjoying it. I feel we just want the season to start. It’s definitely positive that’s the main thing about pre-season – to get the rust out as early as possible and kick on from there,” he told Goal.
Kano Pillars placed seventh with 52 points at the end of the 2016 NPFL.

Gyang hopes to extend Pillars stay
Amos Gyang has said he hopes to extend his stay at Kano Pillars after he was picked as man of the match in Saturday’s hard-fought 1-0 home win over MFM FC.
Skipper Gambo Mohammed was the match winner for Pillars with a header off a cross from Zakka Bala in the 61st minute, few minutes after he missed what could have been the opener for the home team.
Gyang is on a free loan to Pillars after Giwa FC were expelled from the league this season.
“Gyang said he hopes that after his loan deal at the end of the season, he will wish to stay back with Pillars,” Pillars spokesman Idris Malikawa disclosed.
“He said he is very much at home with us and that was why he has settled down quickly in the team.”
The midfield dynamo scored on his debut at Akwa United.
And on Saturday, the exciting midfielder was denied a goal in the 50th minute by the brilliance of the MFM goalkeeper.

Gyang wants Eagles to focus
Giwa FC striker, Amos Gyang, has called on the Super Eagles to keep their heads above water and not allow their impressive Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) pre-tournament friendlies to get into their heads.
The Eagles rounded off their camping exercise in South Africa by defeating fellow 2016 CHAN participants, Ivory Coast 1-0 to end their preparations without any defeat.
They had earlier played a 1-1 draw with Angola and defeated South African Premier League Soccer side, University of Pretoria 3-0.
Gyang feels the team should not be carried away by the results as they head out to Rwanda for the fourth edition of the CHAN which starts this weekend.
“I’m sure they already know this but I just want to advise them that they should not allow the results of the friendlies mean anything to them,” he told supersport.com.
“This can be very dangerous. They must be prepared because friendlies are very different from the real match situations. Pride is the beginning of the downfall of many footballers but I’m sure the coaches would have told them that already.”
The winger, who is on the radar of Kano Pillars and Nasarawa United after an impressive showing with Giwa FC last season, also revealed that he is sure the team will do well at the tournament.
“I’m positive the team will do well. They have very young and talented players who are full of energy who want to do well. I know a lot of them, Bature Yaro is close to me and Chris Madaki is my teammate at Giwa FC. The players want to do well and I’m sure they will,” Gyang enthused.
“They just need to stick together and do what they know how to do best but most importantly, they should listen to their coaches. If they can do that, the trophy will come home.”
Nigeria are in Group C of the tournament alongside Tunisia, Guinea and Niger.
The Super Eagles will start their campaign against Niger on Monday, January 18 at the Stade Regionale Nyamirambo in Kigali.

Two-goal hero Gyang confesses: It wasn’t easy
Giwa FC hero Amos Gyang admitted it wasn’t easy as his side fought back to beat hard fighting Wikki Tourists 3-2 at the Rwang Pam Stadium on Wednesday.
A brace from Gyang and a perfect penalty strike by Mohammed Saleh ensured that the Jos Elephants maintained their continental ambitions, but not before Sabo Idris had silenced the crowd in Jos in the 10th minute.
“There is nothing easy in football, even less so at professional level, and we had to work hard to turn the score line around and get three important points,” admitted the delighted Gyang in an interview with News24.
“When they were ahead we still had a good feeling, although it was better we fought so hard to move to second on the ladder.
“Wikki Tourists gave a good fight, it was like war on match-day. They were determined and paraded fit players. Glory be to God we won the battle.
“Now we can start to think about Sunday’s match in Owerri against Heartland, a team that have talented players and one that will be difficult to overcome.
“They narrowly lost to FC IfeanyiUbah and are a side that has some very good players. This group is very well balanced and everybody can beat everybody else so in every game we must work as if it is the last.”
Gyang thanked his team mates for their contribution to his brace feat on Wednesday and urged them to continue the fantastic work that they started on.
