Man City want to begin Haaland contract talks

Manchester City are ready to start negotiations with Erling Haaland over a contract extension, a source has told ESPN.

Haaland still has three-and-a-half years left on the deal he signed when he moved to the Etihad Stadium from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, but the club are keen to reward an incredible first season which saw the Norwegian scored 52 goals in 53 games.

No formal negotiations have yet taken place but they expected to start over the next couple of months.

City are conscious that Haaland has ambitions to play for Real Madrid at some stage during his career, but the club believe the 23-year-old is happy and settled in Manchester and that he would be willing to agree fresh terms to extend his stay. His current contract runs until June 2027, by which time Haaland would be 26 years old.

City also have 23-year-old Julián Álvarez under contract until 2028.

The club are happy with Haaland and Alvarez as the two recognised strikers in Pep Guardiola’s squad and have strongly rejected suggestions they are interested in adding 18-year-old Brighton striker Evan Ferguson next summer.

Haaland has scored eight goals in 11 games this season after lifting the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in his first campaign at the Etihad.

He also broke the Premier League record for most goals in a single season and was named the Premier League’s player of the year. He’s also second favourite to win the Ballon d’Or behind Argentina captain Lionel Messi.

Erling Haaland capped a golden week by completing a second-half hat-trick as Manchester City extended their 100% start to the Premier League season with a win over Fulham.

On Tuesday, Haaland was named PFA Player of the Year. On Thursday, he got a similar award from Uefa.

Here, he was back doing what he does best – putting the ball into the net, as he took his tally to six for the campaign.

Haaland had set up the opener for Julian Alvarez – and with the score at 2-1 going into the second half, the favour was returned, as the Argentine sent him charging into the box with a fine first-time pass for City’s third.

The Norwegian then kept his nerve to score City’s fourth from the penalty spot after Issa Diop had fouled Alvarez.

in another match, Son Heung-min scored a hat-trick as Tottenham recovered from a goal down to thrash Burnley at Turf Moor and continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Lyle Foster finished a lovely, flowing move to give the Clarets an early lead, but Son’s delicate finish restored parity 12 minutes later and the visitors never looked back.

They dominated the rest of the half and Cristian Romero’s curling effort from the edge of the box completed the turnaround on the stroke of half-time.

James Maddison continued his fine start to the campaign with a peach of a goal nine minutes into the second half, the former Leicester man curling beyond James Trafford.

Substitute Anthony Elanga scored his first Nottingham Forest goal to secure a hard-fought Premier League victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick as Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League with a comprehensive victory over Fulham.

Julian Alvarez opened the scoring for City, before Tim Ream equalised for Fulham minutes later.

Nathan Ake then made it 2-1 with a highly contentious goal, as Manuel Akanji was deemed to not be interfering with play following a video assistant referee check, a decision that left Fulham’s players and manager Marco Silva furious.
