    Hadiza Abubakar slams gender war, says man, woman need each other

    Actress Hadiza Abubakar has expressed her views on the ongoing gender debates on social media, insisting that men and women cannot do without each other.

    In a post shared on Instagram on Thursday, she criticised the growing narrative that either gender is unnecessary.

    “Everybody just dey craze with gender war these days! Men don’t need women, women don’t need men! Una don ya werey wallahi! As for me, Hadiza, I need man, man need me, shikena!” she wrote.

    She further cautioned against escalating the issue, warning that it could spiral out of control.

    “Make una stop that nonsense before dem begin think how to pass am into bill… mtcheew,” she added.

    Her remarks have since sparked mixed reactions from fans, with many commending her for advocating balance between the genders.

  • Gov. Abubakar’s wife promises to tackle drug abuse

    The Bauchi State Governor‘s wife, Mrs Hadiza Abubakar on Friday promised to collaborate with stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse in the state.

    Abubakar made the pledge at the closing ceremony of two-day capacity building workshop for members of Bauchi state Drugs Control Committee and Ambassadors on Drugs Prevention and Substance Abuse in Bauchi.

    She said the workshop was organised by office of the governor’s wife and Ministry of Social Welfare, Youth and Sport, in collaboration with a Consultancy firm, House of Recovery, to create awareness on dangers of drug abuse among youth.

    Abubakar,who was represented by the wife of the deputy governor of the state, Mrs  Amina Katagum, lamented that cases of drug abuse by youth in the state was on the increase.

    “It is necessary for all stakeholders to be united in fighting the menace of drug abuse, which is capable of damaging the future of youths in the state,” she urged.

    She said the workshop would reawaken the youth on the dangers of drug abuse as well as encourages them to engage in productive ventures.

    Earlier in her remark, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare and Youth Development, Mrs Lydia Shehu, had urged stakeholders not to remain aloof while youth that are the country’s future leaders destroyed themselves.

    “It is a collective responsibility of all to check the fast growing rate of drug abuse in the society, and not just the responsibility of government alone,” she said.

    ‎In her remark, the Chief Consultant of the House of Recovery, Mrs Hadiza Mohammed, said the workshop was aimed at creating awareness on the dangers of drugs abuse.

    NGO donates health equipment to 216 facilities in Bauchi State

    Plan International, an International Non Governmental organisation ( NGO ), has donated maternal, neonatal and child health equipment and consumables worth N124 million to 261 health facilities across Bauchi State.

    The Country Director of the NGO, Dr Hussaini Audu, stated this on Wednesday at a news conference in Bauchi after handing over the equipment to the Bauchi State Government representative in Dass Local Government Area.

    He said the gesture was aimed at improving maternal and child health, adding that the NGO would continue to partner with government at various levels in that direction.

    He added that “Plan International is working on a four-and-half year project in 216 health facilities in Bauchi State.

    “These equipment are worth N124 million, to be distributed to 216 healthcare facilities.

    “The equipment include delivery kits, family planning kits, examination lights, infants and adults weighing scale, hand gloves and mattresses.”

    Earlier, the Canadian High Commissioner in Nigeria, Mr Christopher Thornley, had expressed satisfaction over operations of healthcare facilities in the state.

    He said the Canadian Government had been working in the state in the past 15 years due to cordial relationship and enabling working environment provided by the state government.

    He commended the state government “for improving healthcare for women and children.”

    The wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar, who received
    the equipment on behalf of the state government, thanked the organisation for the gesture.

    She noted that the present administration in the state has five points agenda on health which has direct bearing to women and children.

    Abubakar, who also handed over the equipment to Dr Mohammed Dayyabu, the Director, Research, Planning and Statistics, Bauchi State Ministry of Health,called for judicious use.

    Plan International has been working in Bauchi State to assist health facilities with the needed equipment to work with, especially in women and children health centres.

    FOMWAN calls on pregnant women to be regular in attending antenatal clinic

    Secreary of Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Bauchi chapter, Mrs Habiba Saidu, has called on pregnant women in the state to be regular in attending antenatal clinics.

    Saidu made the call on Monday while distributing food items and clothing materials to women in Jama’are town of Jamaare Local Government Area of the state.

    She said attendance of the clinic was paramount to ensure good health of the mother and the unborn child, adding that it also helped in the detection of challenges likely to be faced during delivery.

    “We are the women that give birth, nurse and nurture our children and I want to believe that we all want these processes to start well and end well.
    “Therefore, we should not feel reluctant to attend ante natal clinics; that is very important for you and your babies,” she said.
    She also urged mothers to ensure the enrollment and retention of their school-aged daughters in schools.
    Also speaking, another member of FOMWAN, Mrs Uwani Abubakar, said that the items distributed to the women were donated by the wife of the State Governor, Mrs Hadiza Abubakar.

    She said similar exercise would be undertaken in Bauchi,,Misau and Dass Local Government Areas.

    She enjoined women to pray for leaders to have the wisdom to discharge their duties for the development of the state and he country at large.

  • Saraki’s wife calls for establishment of local vaccine companies in Nigeria

    Mrs Toyin Saraki, wife of the Senate President, has called for the establishment of pharmaceutical companies to produce local vaccines to meet the immunisation needs of Nigerians.

    Saraki made the call on Thursday in Abuja at the award ceremony for creative art and writing competition for secondary school students to mark the 2017 Africa Vaccination Week (AVW).

    She said that 80 per cent of vaccines for immunisation used in Nigeria were donated by foreign partners, adding that the world of charity for charity sake was drying up.

    She said: “the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) is pulling out of aid for immunisation to Nigeria and we have a growing population.

    “So while we are canvassing for the aid to continue, we are also canvassing for home grown investments.

    “We need to start producing our own vaccines and we need to start having local pharmaceutical companies to meet the needs of our citizens

    “I believe with proper strategy plan, Nigeria can stand independently and I hope that day will be in my life time.’’

    Saraki stressed on the need to verify the number of Nigerians who had been prevented from getting ill through immunisation, adding that vaccines protect the people from contacting deadly diseases.

    Describing prevention as investment in good health,’ the wife of the senate president urged Nigerians to ask their neighbour if they had been vaccinated.

    She added that if the answer is negative, they should be shown the centres where they could be vaccinated.

    “Immunisation is largely carried out at the primary care level for free,” she added.

    Dr Chizoba Wonodi, National Convener, Women Advocates for Vaccine Access (WAVA) a Civil Society Organisation (CSO), urged the public and government at all levels to contribute their quota towards increased demand and sustained funding of immunisation programmes.

    She said that the theme for this year AVW is ‘Youth Advocates for Immunisation’.

    “We have organised this creative art and writing competition for secondary school students to raise young people’s awareness of the value of vaccines and the threat to immunisation financing.

    “The youth should be part of the solution; they have a lot of energy, vast network and fresh ideas.

    “Young people can breathe new life to vaccine advocacy by creating and sharing advocacy massages that speaks to their generation,” she said.

    Wonodi also stressed the need for mothers and newborn’s to get vaccinated irrespective of social status and income.

    “As a champion of vaccines and maternal and infant care, I must emphasise the need for mothers and healthcare workers to track, record and give immunisations to mothers and their newborns.’’

    The wife of Bauchi state governor Hajia Hadiza Abubakar and wife of Kebbi state governor Dr Zainab Bagudu also attended the competition.

    The drama series follows the life of Toju Aisha Peters (TAP) and Adeola Remilekun Coker who both come together to start their own advertising agency in a small apartment, after both losing their jobs when they failed to land The Walnut Incorporated account.

    They start the agency ARC & TAP in Adeola’s small apartment, much to his girlfriend’s dismay, and go through a series of clashing ideas, constant struggle to land accounts (big or small), making a mark in the industry and their never ending story of who actually is boss.

    Every year Walnut Incorporation gives AD agencies a chance to pitch to them why they think they should handle their accounts and how they can move the brand forward. Toju and Adeola are determined to get that chance. They do. And the big question of who becomes boss comes to play.
