  • Husband dies saving wife from electrocution

    Tragedy befall a family in Bauchi on Saturday as the breadwinner of the house, Mr Salihu Yahaya, a businessman, lost his life trying to save his wife from being electrocuted.

    Mr Sani Ahmed, who described himself as ‘one of the boys’ of the deceased, said the tragedy occurred around 6.40 pm.

    “One of the wives of the deceased, Halima, was trying to spread a wet material on a wire in the house meant for drying of clothes, but unknown to her, the wire had contact with wall security barb wire connected to electricity.

    “She was instantly shocked and raised alarm, after which the deceased rushed to her rescue by trying to use his bare hand to pull off the wire in contact with her.

    “Unfortunately, as at the time he responded to her alarm, he was performing ablution for his evening prayers and his hands were wet.

    “He was able to rescue the wife but was also shocked by the electricity current in the wire, as a result of which he was thrown to the ground and died while being rushed to the hospital,” he said.

    Ahmed said he and others also took the wife to the hospital for medical attention, saying that she was now at home in stable condition.

    When newsmen visited the resident of the deceased along NYSC Street in Fadaman Mada area of Bauchi metropolis, they could not secure an interview with the affected wife as she was in a mourning mood and receiving sympathizers.

    Late Yahaya left behind two wives and six children.

  • Thank you Tonto, Halima says

    Following the taking over of the care of ailing Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar by fellow actress, Tonto Dikeh, the latter has thanked the former.

    Halima was hospitalised following complications after a Fibrosis operation in India. Tonto however, posted on Instagram that she checked on Halima in hospital and pledged to personally take care of her.

    Taking to her Instagram account on Wednesday, Halima thanked Tonto for coming to her rescue.

    “I want to use this Lil strength in me now to thank my wonderful friend @tontolet who came into town to shoot a movie, but left her work to come pick me up when I told her I was in the hospital,” she said.

    “She said don’t move an inch give me the address (bless her) out of love she made sure I was safe and I already shared my journey with you all. How many friends will make sure you take your medication, force you to eat and monitor your temperature? All she did was out of love and so you all can pray for me. You all have seen me at my best and you should see me at my lowest (no shame)I basically showed you all my womb, a picture is notting to me(I rocked the baldness) help me thank her for dropping all she had to do for me.. Notting but pure love. Only good friends will do that. Money was never involved in her gestures. She is naturally a kind soul and I will forever be grateful @tontolet for that single post, you all have been praying for me. That’s noble act. I love you for ever. You are a great friend #but those drugs bitter sha thank you mama king. Pls thank her for doing that for me. I have notting but respect for you.”

    Halima started acting in 2001 and she is also the CEO of a Modehouse Entertainment, a music label and entertainment management company.

    CONTROVERSIAL Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar who started acting in 2001, is currently in the United Kingdom shooting another movie. This is coming on the heels of her successful debut production, Mistresses.

    The CEO of a Modehouse Entertainment, a music label and Entertainment Management Company took to her Instagram page to share the good news; “If anyone told me I would film my own movie in the UK, I would never have believe that. God is good. TBT Oxford Street United Kingdom.”

    An award winning actress, Halima has won awards such as Best Actress Award at City People Entertainment Awards, Best Actress Award at Eminent Achievers Award, Best Actress Award at Leadership as well as Best Supporting Actress from Afro Hollywood Awards among others.

    The Sociology graduate of Bayero University, Kano made her Nollywood debut in the movie, The Rejected.

    She is yet to give the full details of the movie and faces that will be appearing in the movie. Halima also runs a charity organisation, ‘Halima Abubakar Foundation for the Poor’, which focuses on people without food.
