Why we’re canvassing for Halimat Tejuosho for appointment – PWD

The Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (PWD) has explained why they are canvassing for the nomination of Dr. Halimat Tejuosho into President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The group in a statement said Dr. Tejuosho has what it takes to add value to the administration, especially in the area of inclusion for PWD.

The group pointed out that the trained medical doctor would best serve the interest of PWD in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

The ministry has been without a minister since 8 January 2024 when the president suspended the substantive minister, Betta Edu over controversies about financial transactions she authorised in her ministry.

Mrs Edu was said to have ordered the transfer of N585.2 million into the private bank account of a civil servant, the accountant in charge of grants for Vulnerable Nigerians.

The group in a statement, therefore appealed to President Tinubu to consider their plea by appointing Dr. Halimat Tejuosho to man the ministry.

The statement which was signed by its national president, Abdullahi Aliyu Usman described Tejuosho as a personality with unwavering support for PWD.

The statement reads in part: “Tejuosho’s unwavering commitment and support to the community of persons with disabilities and the less privileged in Nigeria have been exemplary.

“In light of this milestone, the community of persons with disabilities respectfully urges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider the appointment of Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho as the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

“Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho has consistently demonstrated her dedication to improving the lives of persons with disabilities and marginalized communities through her advocacy, initiatives, and programs. Her expertise, compassion, and extensive experience in humanitarian work uniquely position her to lead efforts aimed at alleviating poverty and addressing the needs of vulnerable populations across the country.

Dr. Tejuosho’s appointment would not only be a significant step towards inclusivity and empowerment but also a testament to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to fostering positive change and social justice.

“As a community, we appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider our plea and recognize the invaluable contributions that Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho can make in advancing humanitarian efforts and poverty alleviation in Nigeria. We believe that her appointment would further strengthen the government’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities and support for all members of society.

The Persons Living with Disability (PWDs) have urged President Bola Tinubu to consider Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho, as a worthy replacement for the vacant position that exists in the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (FMHAPA).

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Saturday, the PWDs chairman for All Progressives Congress across the 36 states of Nigeria, Comrade Dahiru Gambo Rafindadi made this call while commending the president for concerted efforts geared towards revamping the nation’s economy across all facets.

He said: “Many people trying to use their offices as instruments of corruption have been stopped and brought to book, they are going to be prosecuted according to the laws of the land and this will give a signal to others that are ready to join.

“The American Dollar has been flying like the Dana Air and others before but now gradually coming down, solving the problem of inflation that we are facing in the country and other measures that are improving the economy of the country so we remain grateful for this and we hope to see more, that is what we are expecting as party leaders even when we are campaigning for him and we believe that he is going to do more.

“We appreciate the APC government because it was during their administration that PWDs know that we are also individuals and that is when our vote starts being recognized.

“Before we were just casting votes but today the PWDs have been considered as some are appointed as chairman of boards, special advisers, and senior special advisers and even currently in the presidency an SSA on special needs and equal opportunities, as well as a Commission of Persons With Disabilities.

Rafindadi cited the attributes of Dr. Adeleke and commended her selflessness towards humanity adding that she did it singlehandedly using her hard-earned money, he declared that if she is encouraged greater feat can be achieved.

“Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho for her humanitarian activities and what she has been doing to improve humanity particularly persons with disabilities.

“She did a lot in this area she had been supportive, contributing to ensure that PWDs are fully integrated in society by supporting their education, healthcare and providing food and many more for PWDs.

“We feel this particular woman needs our appreciation, and commendation and also urge other individuals to emulate what she is doing to come to the aid of PWDs.

“We like to appeal, recommend, urge and suggest to His Excellency the President of Nigeria Alhaji Ahmed Bola Tinubu the consideration of this woman to be appointed into the office of the Humanitarian Ministry as Minister, to continue with this work she is doing without any support but using her hard-earned money.

“If elevated to that position we believe it would serve as an encouragement for her to continue with her graceful activities”. Rafindadi said.

The APC PWDs chairman also passed a vote of confidence on the party’s national Chairman Alhaji Abdulahi Umar Ganduje stating that propaganda is an instrument of politics and no matter how much of it is channeled towards pulling him down, that will fly.

“We are showing our solidarity and support to the national chairman of our great party, APC Abdulahi Umar Ganduje ,we PWDs are satisfied with his leadership and we also ask him to continue we are by his side.

“All opinions about him cannot be separated from propaganda being an instrument of politics. It is a mere propaganda which is not good for our polity and we need to come out and tell the world that they should ignore such kind of propaganda.

“Our national chairman is a trustworthy person that can handle the activities of this party especially with the PWDs we’ve seen lots of progress under his administration.”
