Jigawa Speaker returns 8,000 out-of-school children back to school

The Speaker, Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, has facilitated the enrolling and returning of out-of-school children back to school at primary and junior secondary schools levels.

The speaker disclosed this while distributing school materials to some of the newly enrolled and returning children at Sabuwar Dalam village primary school in Miga local government of the state.

Dangyatin noted that all the beneficiaries were children of less-privileged people, some orphans, who never had parental support.

He explained that the effort followed the agreement signed between the state lawmakers and UNICEF at their meeting in Kaduna on how to address the challenges after presentation of the UNICEF findings on out-of-school children’s data for Jigawa.

“Our commitment to enrolling 8,000 out-of-schools children in my constituency commenced today with 300 children from this village of Sabuwar Dalam.

“Some of the strategies we apply to achieve our target is massive sensitisation campaign on the importance of education, provision of basic learning and teaching materials like school uniforms, bags, exercise books as well as improving the conducive learning environment,” he said.

The speaker maintained that during the meeting, lawmakers from the state Assembly agreed to enrol 40 percent of the total number of out-of-school children in the state and already embarked on the implementation of the strategies.

He commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for his support to the House and urged the general public, particularly parents, traditional and religious leaders, to support the move for better future of the state.

In his remarks, the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, represented by the Secretary to State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, commended the effort and urged all stakeholders to contribute their quota.

He said this is in line with the administration’s twelve-point agenda with top priority on education.

Malam Bala Ibrahim added that within one year in office, Governor Namadi renovated 6,000 schools, allocated 32 percent of the total state budget and created new Ministry of Basic Education among many other commitments.
