  • Lagos hails pilgrims for good conduct

    Lagos State Government has hailed the Jerusalem pilgrims, who participated in last December’s pilgrimage to Israel, for their good conduct.

    It advised them to maintain the decorum they exhibited during the exercise and spread the good news of the first-class treatment and welfare packages they enjoyed from the government.

    Head of Service (HoS) Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, who addressed the pilgrims at a thanksgiving service on Sunday at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja, hailed the conduct of the pilgrims throughout the journey.

    A statement by the Head, Public Relations Unit, Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board (LSCPWB), Olasimbo Uviesherhe, said the HoS described the service as necessary, considering that the pilgrims successfully completed several days’ spiritual exercise without any hitch.

    He said it was also necessary because of journey mercy to and from Israel.

    Said he: “The government appreciates the patronage of the LSCPWB by you and also the way and manner you comported yourself during the pilgrimage. It is to the glory of God and Jesus Christ that you went and came back whole.”

    Muri-Okunola prayed that the pilgrims would receive speedy answers to their supplications and expectations during the pilgrimage.

  • Kwara urges civil servants to engage in alternative source of income

    The Kwara Government, says the civil service does not prohibit civil servants from engaging in alternative source of income, as long as it does not affect their primary assignments.

    Mrs Susan Modupe, the state Head of Service ( HoS ) made this clarification on Thursday during an interactive session with the female civil servants in the state.

    She explained that the import of the interaction with the civil servants was to instill in them the knowledge of savings and investment culture.

    According to her, this will prepare them for unforeseen future circumstances.

    Also speaking at the event, Mr Lekan Rotimi, a Resource Person, told the women that civil service law does not prohibit workers from having alternative source of income.

    Rotimi, the Director of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Kwara Inland Revenue ( KWIR ), said a survey recently carried out, revealed that only one per cent of retirees would not become dependent after service.

    He, therefore, urged them to abstain from uneconomic lifestyles of extravagant spending and engage in productive ventures.

    The director advised them to boost their active income to reduce spending and live within their means.

  • Obaseki appoints six new permanent secretaries

    Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has approved the appointment of six permanent secretaries in the state Civil Service.

    A statement signed by the Head of Service (HoS), Mrs. Gladys Idahor, said the state governor approved the appointment of Mrs. Oboh Akongie Usiriedo, Mrs. Imasuen S. I, and Ms. Enakhimion D. O. as permanent secretaries.

    Others are Engr. Enabulele Ferguson, Mr. Oigboke B. O., and Mr. Ogbebor R. O.

    Mrs. Idahor said the date for their swearing-in will be announced later.

    Al-Makura appoints new HoS

    Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has appointed Mr Abari Aboki as the new Head of Service (HoS) of the state, replacing Mr Thomas Ogiri who retired recently.

    The Secretary to the State Government ( SSG ), Alhaji Mohammed Abdullahi, announced this in statement made available to newsmen in Lafia on Friday.

    Before his appointment Abari served as the Permanent Secretary (PS) in various ministries, including the Ministry of Commerce, Industries and Cooperatives and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

    Abdullahi stated that the new head of service would also double as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Establishment and Industrial Matters.

    “The new Head of Service and the Special Adviser would be sworn in by His Excellency, the Governor, on Tuesday 17th October, 2017 at 11am at the Government House, Lafia,” he said.

    The SSG said also that Mr Musa Aloko had been appointed as the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board to take over from Mr Clement Odeh.

    He said: “the governor wishes to express his appreciation to the outgoing Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board for his services and wishes him well in his future endeavours.

    FEC working to clear backlogs of Civil Servants salary arrears – HoS 

    Head of Service (HoS) of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Ina-Eta has disclosed that the Federal Government has commenced plans to pay all outstanding salaries of federal civil servants in the country.

    She said the move has reached an advanced stage with the intervention of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

    She spoke at the event organized by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) as part of ongoing programmes set to mark the 2017 African Public Service Week in Abuja.

    “We are working very hard with relevant government agencies for the release of all outstanding allowances and related benefits due to civil servants.

    “I am sure you recall that FEC approved a matchup plan for the Federal Ministry of Finance to source funds specially for clearing the whole backlog of our salary arrears and promotion arrears. So very soon, this will commence.”

    Speaking on the loan disbursement, she explained that beneficiaries should have at least five years to serve in the civil service and should be contributor to the National Housing Fund.
    She said over N1.166b has so far been released to the Federal Government Staff Housing Loan Board (FGSHLB) for the benefits of the people.

    Ina-Eta identified partnership as vital to ensuring that the civil servants enjoy certain benefits before retirement from the service.

    She stressed importance of alternative strategies to developing and providing affordable housing as practiced abroad, adding that the federal government cannot solely fund mass housing programme.

    “We want to see different agencies working together in government for the progress and improvement we are all yearning for.”

    She called for sustenance of the programme, adding that the initiative was designed to rehabilitee homes of civil servants The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) earlier released public
    service renovation loans in partnership with the FGSHLB to the beneficiaries.
