    Sheroes Cup: Heartland Queens, Nasarawa Amazon, Bayelsa Queens  shine  

    Heartland Queens  and Nasarawa Amazons picked valuable points as Bayelsa Queens maintained a hundred percent record while Ekiti Queens were held by Abia Angels  on a thrilling Matchday  3 at the on-going  2024 Sheroes Cup in Abuja

    Patience Yaro gave Ekiti  Queens the lead in the 35th  minute with a beautiful finish but Adeshina Rose snatched a point for Abia Angels in the 76th  minute of play as both sides played out a one all draw.

    Heartland Queens smashed Nazareth Ladies with six  goals as Chiemere Opara scored a hat trick to scoop the Man of the Match.

    Meanwhile, Bayelsa Queens defeated Dannaz Ladies by two goals to nil as Uduakbong Monday gave the winner the lead in the 31st  minute while Grace Salisu double the lead sixteen minutes from time.

    Nasarawa Amazons were on  free scoring mode as they recorded their first win of the competition with a six-goal victory against Honey Badgers.

    A brace from Akereromowei Janet, an own goal by Omolola Ibidun and goals from Omosuyi Ayowumi, Abdulwahab Farida and Etim Favour sealed the win.

    Match Day 4 will continue with mouth-watering encounters as the battle of the Queens will see Heartland clash with Bayelsa, Nasarawa Amazons will trade blows with Ekiti Queens, Unbeaten Remo Stars Ladies faces goal leaking Honey badgers and Dannaz Ladies will meet Host Naija Ratels of the FC. All matches hold at the FIFA Goal Project, Abuja.

    Nasarawa Amazons, Heartland Queens secure NWFL Super Six tickets

    Only two more slots are left in the race for the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership Super Six after Nasarawa Amazons, Heartland Queens, Confluence Queens and Rivers Angels picked the initial four tickets at the conclusion of Matchday 13 fixtures played midweek.

    Rivers Angels are projected to top Group B following their 1-0 home win over Bayelsa Queens at the Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt. Patience Otubo’s 89th minute strike handed the Jewels of Rivers the maximum points and they have moved to 27 points which is five points better than second placed Bayelsa Queens who are on 22 points with just a game to the end of the season.

    Nasarawa Amazons also progressed to the season ending Super Six from where the league champions would emerge, following their 2-1 home win over Adamawa Queens. Josephine Matthias and Kesiena Ojiyovwi with the goals for the Amazons while Mary Moses halved the deficit for Adamawa Queens in the dying minute of the game. Amazons are currently first in Group A with 26 points from 13 games.

    Heartland Queens and Confluence Queens are the other two teams that have qualified from Group A. Heartland Queens pipped Naija Ratels 2-1 through Onyinyechi Kalu and Chinyere Iheoma goals. Grace Saliu reduced the tally in the 68th minute to ensure the tie ended with the home team’s fans at the edge of their seats.

    Confluence Queens defeated Abia Angels 2-0 in Aba to scale through to the Super Six for a second straight season. Mary Mamudu and Chinyere Emenike with the goals for Confluence Queens. The Lokoja side are third with 24 points while Adamawa Queens are fourth with 16 points.

    Dannaz Ladies were thrashed 3-0 by Royal Queens following the Sapele side’s explosive start to the game. Chiamaka Ezekwugo, Azeezat Obadun and Alice Ogor all scored the three goals in the opening 35 minutes. Royal Queens are last in Group A with 13 points and will need one more win to retain their topflight status. Dannaz Ladies are currently fifth with 15 points. They are also within one win and another season in the NWFL Premiership.

    In Group B, three teams are still in the hunt for the remaining two tickets to the Super Six. They are Bayelsa Queens (22 points), Edo Queens (22 points) and FC Robo Queens (19 points). The first two teams have virtually picked the final two tickets expect if something extraordinary happens in the last fixture next week.

    Though Bayelsa Queens were pinned 1-0 in Port Harcourt, they are expected to get the job done before their fans in Yenagoa next week while Edo Queens will be guaranteed the other ticket with a draw in their final game of the regular season.

    FC Robo Queens virtually put themselves out of Super Six reckoning after a goalless draw at home to outgoing champions, Delta Queens in Lagos. The draw ensured Delta Queens kept their topflight status with a game to spare The Benin girls pipped Remo Stars Ladies 1-0 through Emem Essien’s 35th minute effort to improve to 22 points while Remo Stars Ladies are in sixth spot with 15 points. The Ikenne Babes are guaranteed a second season in the topflight even if they lose their final game of the season at home.

    In Akure, Sunshine Queens beat Ekiti Queens 1-0 through Bolaji Olamide’s goal. They are seventh on the log with 13 points but are not mathematically certain of topflight stay yet. The Akure Ladies will play the final game of the regular season away while Ekiti Queens are at home. One of these two teams will kiss the Premiership goodbye by next matchday.

    Heartland Queens, Bayelsa Queens  dominate  pace in   NWFL

    Power  failed to change hands in both groups of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL)  Premiership with Matchday 11 games played yesterday across the country with Heartland Queens and Bayelsa Queens still dictating the pace with three Matchday to the end of the regular season.

    At the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, Heartland Queens thrashed Abia Angels 4-1 to record a double win over their Oriental neighbours. The first leg ended 2-1 in favour of the Owerri Landladies.

    The game ended as a contest in the opening 18 minutes when Obi Ogbala’s girls went three goals up through

    Chinedu Chinaka, Chimebere Opara and Mary Lucky in the fifth, ninth and 18th  minutes. Chinaka got her second and her team’s fourth in the 57th minute before Tessy Biahwo reduced the goals arrears in the 70th  minute.

    Heartland Queens are still atop Group A with 21 points but Abia Angels dropped to the sixth spot with 14 points.

    In another Group A tie, Nasarawa Amazons strengthened their stronghold on second position with a 3-1 home win over Dannaz Ladies which improved their points haul to 20 points but Dannaz Ladies suffered significantly in their chase for top three ticket due to the loss. They are now fifth with 14 points and four points adrift of third placed Confluence Queens.

    Confluence Queens held Royal Queens to a goalless in draw in Sapele to move to 18 points and three points clear of fourth place Adamawa Queens who beat Naija Ratels 2-0 in Gombe. Royal Queens are still last in the group with 10 points.

    In Group B, Bayelsa Queens held on to their one point advantage following a 3-1 victory in Yenagoa against Remo Stars Ladies.

    Chinyere Igboamalu opened the floodgate of goals in the 29th  minute but Precious Vincent equalised for Remo Stars in the 55th  minute. Shakirat Moshood and Mary Aderemi added two more goals to the Prosperity Girls in the 66th  and 72nd  minutes. Bayelsa Queens are top in Group B with 22 points.

    In Port Harcourt, Rivers Angels pipped reigning champions, Delta Queens 1-0. Falconets striker, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu netted the decisive goal in the 75th  minute from the spot. The three points kept the Jewels of Rivers in second spot with 21 points.

    In Benin, Edo Queens made it back to back home win following their 4-2 win over Sunshine Queens. They are third in Group B with 19 points while the Owena Mermaids are in the seventh spot with 10 points.

    FC Robo Queens kept themselves in the hunt for top three finish with a 2-0 win in Lagos against Ekiti Queens.

    Folashade Ijamilusi’s late double handed Emmanuel Osahon’s girls a precious win. They are fourth with 18 points and only a point behind Edo Queens.

    NWFL Premiership: Heartland Queens, Bayelsa Queens reclaim top spots

    Heartland Queens and Bayelsa Queens have moved to the top spot in Groups A and B at the end of the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership Matchday 10 games played across the country.

    At the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, Heartland Queens pipped Nasarawa Amazons 1-0 through Mary Lucky’s 84th minute goal. The game had ended 2-1 when the first leg was played in Lafia and the Owerri side’s latest win saw them topple Nasarawa Amazons in first spot in Group A with 18 points while the Amazons are second with 17 points.

    At the Edo State University Complex, Iyarmho, Confluence Queens thrashed Adamawa Queens 2-0 with Mary Mamudu getting a brace to keep the Lokoja based side in third spot with 17 points.

    In Abuja, Naija Ratels beat Dannaz Ladies 3-1 to move to 11 points. Grace Saliu, Sofiat Bankole and Dorcas John got the goals for the Barrister Edeh girls while Nofisat Ayegbami got Dannaz Ladies’ solitary goal. Dannaz Ladies are fourth in Group A with 14 points.

    At the Umuahia Township Stadium, Abia Angels did their Super Six aspirations no good following their goalless home draw against Royal Queens. Abia Angels are fifth with 14 points while Royal Queens improved to nine points.

    In Group B, Bayelsa Queens pipped Ekiti Queens 1-0 at the Oluyemi Kayode Sports Complex, Ekiti to displace Rivers Angels off the top of the table with 19 points. Blessing Abiola’s 78th minute strike proved sufficient for the maximum points.

    Despite losing 4-1 in Benin to Edo Queens, Rivers Angels only slipped to the second spot with 18 points. The Jewels of Rivers were decimated by their South South neighbours at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

    Goodness Odigie was the star of the game for Edo Queens scoring a hat trick in the 7th , 8th and 56th minute before Amarachukwu Onuoha added the fourth in the 83rd minute. Peace Effiong whose 23rd minute effort for Rivers Angels initially made the scores 2-1 turned out to be a consolation goal.

    In Ikenne, Remo Stars Ladies got a massive upset at the Remo Stars Stadium beating NWFL Premiership reigning champions 1-0 through Hannah Ibrahim’s 79th minute goal. Delta Queens’ officials were involved in an accident on the eve of the game at Ijebu Ode but the game still went ahead.

    With the win, Remo Stars moved to the fifth spot with 12 points while defeated Delta Queens slipped to the sixth spot with 12 points also. They have had a weak defence to the title they won last season.

    Ondo Sports Complex, Akure witnessed Sunshine Queens thrash FC Robo Queens 3-0 in a massive boost to the Owena Mermaids’ relegation escape. Fasilat Adeyemo put Sunshine Queens in the lead in the second minute when she diverted a shot into her net before Taiwo Ajibade and Shola Oduwale adding two more goals in the eighth and 11th minutes.

    Sunshine Queens are seventh with 10 points but FC Robo Queens are fourth with 15 points.

    Heartland Queens and Rivers Angels continued to dominate Groups A and B of the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership after Matchday 8  games were concluded  yesterday.

    The Owerri-land ladies thrashed Adamawa Queens 3-0 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium  to jump to 14 points and hold on to the leadership of Group A on goals difference with Nasarawa Amazons and Confluence Queens having the same number of points in second and third place respectively.

    Chinyere Iheoma, Onyinyechi Kalu and Chinedu Gift Chinaka were on the score sheet for Heartland Queens in the 40th , 56th  and 78th  minutes to avenge their 2-1 loss to Adamawa Queens in Gombe in the concluding fixture of the first round.

    In Lafia, Nasarawa Amazons pummelled Royal Queens 4-0 through Olusola Shobowale, Chinyere Kalu, Blessing Saleh and Ayo Omosuyi goals while Confluence Queens pipped Naija Ratels 1-0. 

    Abia Angels beat Dannaz Ladies 3-1 in Aba to move to the fourth spot with 13 points while Dannaz Ladies slipped to the fifth with 11 points. 

    In Group B, Rivers Angels could not complete a double over FC Robo whom they defeated in Lagos 2-1 during the first stanza. The Jewels of Rivers were held to a 1-1 draw in Port Harcourt. Peace Effiong scored first for Rivers Angels in the 21st  minute before Folasade Ijamilusi levelled the proceedings in the 47th  minute.

    Despite the draw, Rivers Angels are still atop Group B with 15 points ahead of Bayelsa Queens who played a goalless draw in Benin against Edo Queens. Both are second and third with 13 points each while FC Robo are fourth with 12 points. 

    In Ekiti, Ekiti Queens bagged their second win of the season after a 2-1 win over Remo Stars Ladies. Joy Enoch equalised for the home team in the 35th  minute after Hannah Ibrahim put Remo Stars in the lead in the 28th  minute. Bello Sherifat got the matchwinner in the 88th  minute. 

    Ekiti Queens are in the seventh spot with eight points while Remo Stars are fifth with nine points. 

    South West neighbours, Sunshine Queens also secured their second victory of the season in Akure following their 2-1 win over Delta Queens. 

    Bolaji Olamide’s double in the 39th  and 68th  minutes overturned Chisom Nwachukwu’s 25th  minute strike for Delta Queens, the reigning league champions who have slipped out of the top three with four points. They are sixth on the table with nine points.

    NWFL Premiership: Heartland Queens, Rivers Angels lead at half-way mark

    Heartland Queens and Rivers Angels have ended the first stanza of the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership as half-way leaders in their respective groups after final round of games were played yesterday.

    In Group A, Heartland Queens were beaten 2-1 at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe by Adamawa Queens who came back from a goal down to stun the Owerri side.

    Despite the loss, Heartland Queens ended the first round as first in Group A with 11 points and a superior goals difference of plus two even though three other teams in the group: Nasarawa Amazons, Dannaz Ladies and Confluence Queens also ended the round with 11 points each but are all separated by goals difference or superior goals scored.

    In other group A games, Nasarawa Amazons were pipped 1-0 in Warri by Royal Queens; Dannaz Ladies beat Abia Angels 1-0 through Augustina Unamgba while Naija Ratels were 1-0 better than Confluence Queens in Abuja.

    In Group B, Rivers Angels usurped Edo Queens to finish the first stanza in first spot with 14 points from seven games. They beat FC Robo Queens 2-1 in Lagos to achieve the feat.

    Motunrayo Ezekiel put the Port Harcourt side in the ascendancy in the seventh minute for her fifth goal of the season in Lagos but Mary Salami equalised for the home team in the 38th minute. Suliyat Hassan bagged the winning goal in the 62nd minute.

    The defeat saw FC Robo Queens slip to the fourth spot with 11 points behind Bayelsa Queens (12 points), who thrashed Edo Queens 3-0 through Chinyere Igboamalu’s hat-trick; and Edo Queens are in third spot with 12 points.

    Remo Stars Ladies smashed Ekiti Queens 4-1 to hold on to the fifth spot with nine points at the expense of reigning champions, Delta Queens who despite beating Sunshine Queens 3-1 are in sixth spot with nine points also but with inferior goals difference.

    Ekiti Queens and Sunshine Queens are in the seventh and eighth positions with five and four points in that order.

    Heartland Queens and Edo Queens have jumped to the top of the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership table in Group A and B after they secured vital home wins as Matchday 6 games were played yesterday in both groups.

    Heartland Queens playing at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri defeated Dannaz Ladies of Lagos 2-1 in an energy sapping encounter decided by a late goal.

    The Owerri Ladies scored first through Chimebere Opara in the 46th minute but Omotoke Ogunfuwa equalized for the visitors 14 minutes from full time before Chinwendu Orji saved Heartland Queens blushes with a 92nd minute strike.

    The win lifted Heartland Queens to the top of the NWFL Premiership Group A with 11 points and plus five goals difference while defeated Dannaz Ladies are in the fourth spot with eight points.

    In another game played in Lafia, Nasarawa Amazons pipped visiting Confluence Queens 1-0 through Ojiyovwi Kesiena’s 17th minute effort. They are second in Group A with 11 points and plus three goals difference.

    Hitherto group leaders, Confluence Queens slumped to the third spot following the loss to Nasarawa Amazons. They also have 11 points and three goals difference. They are behind Nasarawa Amazons because the Lafia side have more goals scored than Confluence Queens.

    In Warri, Royal Queens recorded their first win of the season when they stunned Adamawa Queens 1-0 through Aishat Raheem’s 18th minute goal. They are still last in Group A but have improved to four points. Adamawa Queens are in the sixth spot with six points.

    The last game in Group A will hold in Umuahia between Abia Angels and Naija Ratels today.

    In Group B, reigning league champions, Delta Queens continued their sloppy start to the season after they were pinned 1-0 by Edo Queens in the South South derby played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.

    They have dropped to the sixth spot with six points after Edo Queens’ Esther Moses’ 59th minute effort broke their hearts. The Benin Ladies are atop the group with 12 points from four wins and two defeats. They and Adamawa Queens are the only teams without a drawn game in both groups this season.

    The 2022 League champions, Bayelsa Queens succumbed to their first defeat of the season following their 2-1 loss to FC Robo Queens in Lagos.

    Rose Ekong got the game’s curtain raiser in the 22nd minute for the Prosperity Girls but Opeyemi Ajakaye and Folashade Ijamilusi bagged two second half goals in the 50th and 59th minute to turn the game around.

    FC Robo Queens moved to the third spot with 11 points. They are level on points with second placed Rivers Angels but are behind courtesy of their inferior goals difference.

    Bayelsa Queens who were the group leaders before the start of Matchday Six slipped to the fourth spot still with nine points.

    Rivers Angels who were the NWFL Premiership 2021 champions, continued their renaissance with a routine 2-0 home win over Ekiti Queens.

    Chiamaka Okwuchukwu made it two goals in the last two games with the game’s opener in the 31st minute before Olamide Adugbe doubled the lead nine minutes later.

    The Rivers Jewels are second in the group with 11 points while Ekiti Queens remain in the seventh spot with five points.

    In Akure, Sunshine Queens confined Remo Stars Ladies to their second defeat of the season from just six games following a 2-1 victory at the Ondo Sports Complex.

    Obianuju Akwubo and Chinaza Soroibe scored for the Owena Mermaids who earned their first win of the season by the victory. Blessing Isiguzo scored Remo Stars Ladies’ solidarity goal.
