  • Engaging the Power of the Holy Ghost for Conquest!

We discover from scriptures that as our destinies are great in Christ; so also are the oppositions against them. Furthermore, there are wars against our destinies and these wars are largely spiritual. As it is written: For a great door and effectual is opened unto me and there are many adversaries (1Corithians16:9).

However, it is important to recognise that we live in an embattled and wicked world; which is why there are forces against our fulfilment of destinies; and until they are conquered, we remain defeated. As I have often said, the enemies will not bow to our religion, neither will they bow to the scriptures we quote; they will only bow to the power of God. Interestingly, God’s invisible Power is domicile, embedded and resides in the Holy Ghost. That is, no matter how great the invisible battles, they can only be confronted with a superior invisible force and that is the Holy Ghost.

But, Who then is the Holy Ghost?

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one (1 John 5:7).

The Holy Ghost is God’s Principal Invisible Force and His mission is to devastate all satanic forces wherever they are found. As the Spirit of the living God, He is the Carrier, Communicator and Transmitter of the Power of God. Therefore, when we are confronted by the invisible forces of darkness, we engage this invisible Power from on high.

By His Ministry, amongst other things, He is to set free the captives and open prison doors.

As the invisible principal force of God, He deals with all the invisible resistances, oppositions and barriers on our paths. Consequently, these invisible forces will only bow to the operations of the invisible Holy Ghost. So, nothing is permitted to stop us when the Holy Ghost is at work.

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19).

These opposing forces are not permitted to resist our progress, success, accomplishment, exploits or breakthroughs.

So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him (Isaiah 59:19)

HOW DOES THE HOLY GHOST PERFORM THIS MISSION?

    Isaiah 61:1-2 gives us a clear picture of the mission of the Holy Ghost to the believers. As it is written: The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn.

Based on the scripture above, the Holy Ghost performs the following:

    • He proclaims liberty and comforts all that mourn: This is why He is called the Comforter. He brings an end to the barriers on our paths and crisis in our lives.
    • To execute judgment: This is one of the core missions of the Holy Ghost. He executes judgment against the prince of this world and all his agents (John 16:7-11); and that is the only way we can possess our possessions and fulfil destiny in a grand style.
    • He is also God’s weapon of vengeance: Until vengeance answers, our liberty may not be in view (Exodus 4:22-23). Until God’s judgment answered, Pharaoh did not let Israel go. Vengeance needed to answer for them to possess their possession. They were supposed to be in Egypt for 400 years, but they were delayed for 30 years. Please understand that there are forces of delay from hell that are only awaiting divine judgment.

In conclusion, the ministry of the Holy Ghost is a non-negotiable requirement for anyone that desires vengeance on his enemies because only the power of the Holy Ghost is above all the powers of our enemies (Matthew 28:18). But to gain access to the Holy Ghost, you must be born again. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!”  For further reading, please get my books: Anointing for Breakthrough, Understanding the Anointing, Anointing for Exploits, Release of Power. • Engaging the Ministry of the Holy Ghost for Exploits! (2)

Last week, we began this teaching series with the understanding that every redeemed child of God ordained to command exploits. We also established that it is the Holy Spirit that empowers us for exploits through His anointing (Matthew 5:13-15).

This week, as we continue the teaching, it is important to recognise that the Holy Ghost is a multi-dimensional Spirit. For instance, the seven Spirits of God are listed in scriptures and Jesus was an embodiment of all during His earthly ministry. Thus, the Holy Spirit is the same Spirit but with diverse operations. As it is written: There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism (Ephesians 4:4-5; see also Isaiah 11:1-3; 1 Corinthians 12:5; Revelation 5:6).

Let’s examine three dimensions of the Holy Spirit that empower men for exploits.

v            The Spirit of power: The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of power, which is also referred to as the anointing. That was the kind of anointing upon Cyrus that positioned him for exploits. The mission of the anointing is to empower us to command exploits, subdue our enemies without struggles, and destroy the two-leaved gates resisting our advancement. The anointing also stops the wickedness of the wicked by executing vengeance against all oppositions to our advancement (Isaiah 45:1-3, 61:1-5; Acts 1:8).

Let’s recognise that power is the secret behind dominion in the Kingdom and the only language the enemy bows to, is that of power. It is written: Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee (Psalms 66:3; see also Psalms 110:1-3; Luke 4:18).

v            The Spirit of faith: This is one of the powerful spiritual virtues that empower believers to command exploits. The Spirit of faith is the same for all generations. As it is written: Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints (Jude 1:3; see also 2 Corinthians 4:13; Hebrews 11:32-34).

What are the manifestations of the Spirit of faith?

    • The Spirit of Faith puts us in command of all things: The Spirit of faith empowers men to believe the unbelievable, think the unthinkable, dare the undarable and deliver the impossible. Jesus said: … for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you (Matthew 17:20).
    • It empowers us to believe all things: The Spirit of faith enlarges our capacity to believe everything written in God’s Word and as declared by His Prophets. Our capacity to believe is enhanced by the Holy Ghost and whatever we believe, we are empowered to become (Mark 9:23; Luke 1:45; John 1:12; Acts 24:14).

For instance, in 1979, I had an encounter from scriptures on my total health heritage in Christ, which empowered me to live a healthy life till date. I also had an encounter about my prosperity heritage in redemption and believed that I can never be poor.

    • The Spirit of Faith speaks through us: The Spirit of faith is ever speaking loud and clear because it doesn’t doubt the reality of what it believes (Matthew 10:20; Acts 14:3; 2 Corinthians 4:13).
    • It quenches all the fiery darts of the devil: It is written: Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked (Ephesians 6:16).

In other words, the Spirit of faith puts us in command of whatever situation or circumstances we are confronted with. However, we must understand that faith is built by revelation from God’s Word, and God’s Word is only accessible by God’s children. To be a child, you must be born again. Are you born again? If you haven’t accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord, you can do so as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!” For further reading, please get my books: Anointing for Breakthrough, Understanding the Anointing, Anointing for Exploits and Release of Power. I will conclude this teaching next week.

  • Engaging the Ministry of the Holy Ghost for Exploits!

We discover from scriptures that every child of God is redeemed to command exploits. It is written: Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house (Matthew 5:13-15).

The dictionary defines exploits as striking or notable deeds, spirited or heroic acts and bold or daring feats. Therefore, exploit is not just success; rather, it is setting the pace, blazing the trail, generating extraordinary accomplishments and outstanding feats, breaking new grounds, generating global relevance and out-of-this-world order of impact in one’s pursuit. Conclusively, exploit is all about accomplishing things that eyes have not seen, ears have not heard and what has not entered the hearts of men (1 Corinthians 2:9).

We also understand that by redemption, the least among the redeemed carries greater potentials than the greatest of the Old Testament saints, such as Abraham, Isaac, Gideon, Daniel, Joseph, Solomon, etc. Jesus said: Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he (Matthew 11:11).

Concerning Solomon, the Bible records: The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here (Matthew 12:42; see also 2 Corinthians 3:7-11).

Therefore, we carry greater potentials than Solomon inside us.

Moreover, as a seed of Abraham, we are ordained to be blessings to all the families of the earth. Thus, every seed of Abraham is a global citizen. As it is written: And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise (Galatians 3:29; see also Genesis 4:28, 12:1-3).

However, it is important to understand that our golden destiny cannot be realised without the help of the Holy Spirit because we are empowered for exploits by His anointing. For instance, Jesus, Who was born of the Holy Ghost, had no identity and was known as the son of Joseph the carpenter until He was empowered by the Holy Ghost. Thereafter, He commanded trans-generational impact in three and a half years and we are beneficiaries of it today. As a result, the gospel has been growing in strength from millennia to millennia and the Bible remains the bestselling book over the years, without competition. Also, the Kingdom of God is expanding daily based on exploits generated in three and a half years by the anointing of the Holy Ghost (Zechariah 4:1-6; Isaiah 45:1-3, 61:1-7).

We also saw the anointing generating such results in the life of Cyrus. As it is written: Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut; I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel (Isaiah 45:1-3).

Thus, the anointing clears the way for us, empowers us to subdue nations and destroy every opposition on our paths, thereby culminating in our advancement. However, it is important to recognise that the anointing of the Holy Ghost is only available to God’s children (those who are born again). Now I know I am born again!”

  • ‘Lessons I learnt in my ministry in 28 years’

‘Lessons I learnt in my ministry in 28 years’

The general overseer of Holy Ghost Christian Centre Lagos, Pastor Amos Fenwa, went down the memory lane to evaluate his ministry on full-time in the last 28 years with Sunday Oguntola. Excerpts:

It’s been 28 years in full-time ministry. How would you sum up your experience so far?

Well, I will say it’s been glorious and challenging. I have been privileged to be blessed in the ministry because I was born in a mission house. My father was a pastor and that gave me a head start in ministry work. I didn’t plan to be a pastor; it was not part of my dream because when you are born in a mission house, you know everything.

Ministry is not about aspiration or ambition but calling. It is something that takes one’s life. But I will say it’s been glorious. I remember after my Secondary School, I worked for like two years. First, I was at Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) in their monitoring station in Ogbomosho. Then, I went to Ilorin as a manager in a hotel.

From there, I wanted to go to Adeyemi College of Education Oyo to study History Education. I just wanted to be a teacher and train people. I love to see people starting from nowhere to becoming great in life. But as I was about resuming, my father called me that I should not waste my time doing secular studies because I had been called into the ministry….

…Was it easy for you to believe him?

Yes, it was because I knew him as a pastor and prophet. I had seen him prophesy and it came to pass. So, I had to suspend the admission to the College and proceeded to Trinity College in Aba where I was trained. When I finished, he called one of his friends to get me a church to work and that was how I came back to the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) as an associate pastor.

Originally, I was supposed to serve in Bida but God spoke to me to come to Lagos. I told my father who informed his friend that brought me to Lagos. That was how I continued running under the man for some years. When he was transferred, I served with another pastor there. From there, God started talking to me about starting the ministry. By June of 1995, I left to start my ministry without knowing how it would function.

For six months, I was not in any church because I needed to hear God clearly. I thank God that I understood what He was saying. By January 7, we launched Holy Ghost Praying Centre now Holy Ghost Christian Centre (HGCC).

Was it easy for you to receive the call knowing you grew up in a mission house where you must have seen your father struggling?

No, it was not because I saw my father lacking. That is one of the troubles with pastors’ kids. They don’t want the kind of life that their parents live. It was the same for me. When I entered the ministry in 1986, it was like a signature to poverty. If you told someone you were going into the ministry then as a young man, they would consider you mad.

I knew my dad struggled to send us to schools. He was living on welfare. I never wanted to live on charities. But I was clear God wanted me to serve Him. I am the last child in the family; we are five boys and three girls. I was the first to heed the call to the ministry.

When I was going to the pastor’s school, our eldest brother wondered why I was leaving my paid job but I said God called. None of them wanted to have anything to do with ministry but today they are all with me in the ministry. I happen to be their senior in the ministry even though I am the last child because I accepted the call before them. God helped me to be able to start on time. Up till now, I still tell young people to be sure God calls them before they come into the ministry.

Ministry is very attractive now but it was very tough back then. You see general overseers with cars and you want to join the train. But even then, before you become attractive you must have paid your dues. Someone might  see me today and want to say I am okay but I have put up 28 years. If I was a cleaner in the Federal Civil Service, I believe I would have been better now.

How did you get over the conservative mindset of the CAC from where you started off?

If you see me, you know I am still conservative. But what helped me was the Trinity College I attended. It is an affiliate of Trinity College California. We had five American missionaries as lecturers on full-time. They trained us to see ministry like they will see and do it.

So, when I was starting the ministry, I was able to see it from another dimension than the CAC. Though when I was there as an associate pastor, I followed the guidelines in CAC. But in my foundation when I started my ministry, the training helped me. That is why today when people come to our church, they hardly can trace CAC in how we do things except in our prayer patterns.

How did the mental reengineering occur? It must have taken a while to take roots, right?

Yes, it took a long while. I joined CAC in 1988 and when I returned from College, It was tough to get back into the church culture. But God exposed me to international travels and I garnered a lot of experiences there. I started travelling since 2001. I ministered everywhere and saw how people do things differently. I attended seminars and I started changing my orientation back to what I was trained. That accounts for what you will see in our church today.

But I believe as Africans, there is a way you have to minister to Africans. That is why our prayer pattern is very aggressive. We preach the typical American kind of gospel but knowing where we are coming from, we embrace prayers a lot and do more of warfare.

You believe African churches need to do more of that?

Sure because there is no reason why the continent should be backwards going by our natural and human resources. There is no reason why Nigeria should remain like this if there is no spiritual strongholds holding us down. I also believe that some of the leaders ruling us are into occultism. This is affecting our progress.

We say America is the number one nation in the world today and you realise that their founding fathers were Christians and pastors. They have their problems but the country is still attractive. If you pick any young man today, he will tell you he wants America first. Our own tradition is built on traditional religion, witchcraft and blood sacrifices. I don’t think there is any nation where more blood is shed than Africa. That is why we are so backward.

In 28 years, how far has the church come?

We have been able to find our feet and the vision is becoming much clearer. We really know that we are sent to nations to add values. That informs so many things we are doing. We have 11 churches worldwide. We have two in America, one in the UK and the others in Nigeria.

We are willing to expand as the Lord gives us resources. We are also building a structure that will sustain the church beyond now. Recently, we did a convention and noticed that our youth focus has been low. Now, we do a programme quarterly targeted at them.

In 28 years, what lessons has ministry taught you?

It has taught me to always listen to God on everything. It has also taught me that skill is as important as calling and anointing. You can be anointed fully and not know what to do. When we started, we prided ourselves in being anointed and didn’t get skills in some areas of ministry. That limited and retarded us in many ways.

Three, it has taught me who human beings truly are. People can come into your life and walk away once they feel they don’t need you anymore. I am a very emotional person. I love people more than anything and used to feel bad when people walk out on me. But ministry has taught me not to depend on people but look up to God. I have had people that will say ‘pastor, If God can bless me I want to stay in this church and support you’. But they walked away when their expectations were not met.

    Expectations like what?

Sometimes they feel they should be put in some positions because God has blessed them but I won’t do that because of my background. I have seen that happen every day regardless of whether they are qualified or not.

If you were to start all over today, what would you do differently?

One, I would want to have good paper works before embarking on ministries. A lot of times ideas come but we just run with it without documentation. We don’t write the visions to enable us run with it. Two, I would embrace people that are well-educated and their hearts have been touched by God.

They tend to help the ministry to go very far more than uneducated people. We attracted more of them when we started the ministry and they didn’t have the capacity to help the work to some extent. No wonder God is calling professors and educated people now. No wonder Paul the Apostle wrote 12 to 13 epistles in the Bible while fisherman Peter could only write two.

So, I think skills and education are very important in ministry. If I were to start again, I would ask God for clearer vision because we had to change a lot of things as we moved.

  • Power for fulfilment of destiny! (2)

Last week, I showed you how we can fulfil destiny by the power of the Holy Ghost. Also, I showed you some channels through which the Holy Ghost accomplishes this task.

This week, I will yet show you what God does, when we are in pursuit of His plan. I will comment on how we can know when we are in the centre of God’s plan.

What God does when we are in pursuit of His plan:

When we are in the midst of God’s plan or when we are in pursuit of His plan, He does the following:

•He goes before us (John 10:3; Isaiah 45:2)

•He goes with us (Matthew 28:20; John 8:29)

•He works with us (Mark 16:20)

•He works through us (Philippians 2:13)

    •He works for us (Psalm 118:23, 1 Thessalonians 5:24)

Please note that it is impossible to fulfil destiny without empowerment. Every great destiny attracts great opposition. That is why we need great empowerment. For the Kingdom of God suffers grievous oppositions, only the violently empowered can take full delivery of their destiny (Matthew 11:12).

Every “unempowered” child of God is a sheep; only the empowered are lions. No one prevails as a sheep, we only prevail as lions. A sheep can be oppressed and afflicted; therefore, we must strive to be empowered to the realms of lions, in order for us to prevail.

It is, therefore, by the anointing of the Holy Ghost that we live above fainting and discouragement until we see God’s plan fully delivered in our lives.

But, How Do I Know I Am At The Centre Of God’s Plan?

•Peace: When a man is in God’s plan, he enjoys the peace of God. God’s plan is accompanied by His peace. I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people… (Psalm 85:8).

•Joy: When we are in the centre of God’s will, we experience joy unspeakable full of glory (1 Peter 1:8). That is the unfailing joy of the Lord (Psalm 16:11).

•Strength: When you are on course in God’s plan, He supplies the strength you will need to drive it. Everyone in the company of God goes from strength to strength (Psalm 84:7).

•Breakthrough: Supernatural breakthroughs always accompany men who are walking in divine plan (Isaiah 45:1&2).

The Holy Ghost is Only Released on Demand

Empowerment only answers to demand. We cannot be empowered unconsciously. The Holy Ghost does not fall on people’s laps; neither do we stumble into empowerment (Psalm 63:1-2). The reason we are so powerless is that we wait for the power to drop; however, the power will only drop on demand.

The Baptism of the Holy Ghost is a welcome gift to the Kingdom, but empowerment is on demand. Power in the Kingdom only answers to desperate demand. Every notable encounter with power is traceable to desperate demands on the part of the beneficiary. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:13).

The good news is this, God’s power is waiting for your demand, and you are going to be flooded with that power.

Please understand that empowerment will change your life forever. Grace to pay the required price for empowerment into “Next Levels”, so you can take full delivery of your package for the year, receive it now in the name of Jesus!

Friend, do you want to be empowered to fulfil destiny? You can, if you are born again. You get born again by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Saviour and Lord. If you are set for this new birth experience, please say this prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus! Now I know I am born again!

I will be concluding this message next week.

Every exploit in life is a product of knowledge. For further reading, you can get my books: Anointing For Breakthrough, Understanding The Anointing and Anointing For Exploits.
