    How I attracted projects to my constituency, by lawmaker

    Member representing Akoko Northeast and Northwest Federal Constituency of Ondo State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ifeoluwa Ehindero, has said despite initial bottlenecks when he assumed office, he has carried out various developmental projects.

    The lawmaker noted that the budgeting process had been concluded,but he utilised his contacts to the advantage of his constituents.

    In an interview in Abuja, Ehindero admitted that the exceptional template left by his predecessor helped him in navigating the challenges he faced as a new lawmaker.

    Acknowledging the support of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas to his success as a lawmaker, Ehindero noted  that he had facilitated the provision of medical equipment for 12 primary healthcare centres and installed industrial boreholes in many communities.

    He said he had championed a bill for the establishment of a  Federal College of Education in the constituency.

    He said: “Stepping into office, I had to hit the ground running to uphold the high standards he set.

    When I assumed office in February 2024, the national budget had already been concluded, which meant I had to build relationships, leverage networks, and lobby strategically to secure projects for my constituency.

    “Through this, we successfully influenced the construction of six blocks of classrooms within a short period.

    “ I sincerely appreciate Rt. Hon. Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the 10th National Assembly, for his unwavering support.

    “He has been an outstanding leader, always prioritising the needs of our constituents.

    “We have also facilitated the provision of medical equipment for 12 primary healthcare facilities and installed industrial solar-powered boreholes across several communities.

    “Additionally, more projects are in the pipeline, and we expect to commence commissioning within the next few months.”

    As Hon. Ifeoluwa Ehindero marks his first year in office as the representative for Akoko North East/North West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, he has received widespread commendation for his contributions to the development of the constituency. Hon. Ehindero, who replaced Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo—an Outstanding Minister of Interior—following the by-elections, has made his own impactful mark with significant strides in governance.

    Among those celebrating his achievements is his close friend, lawyer, and serial entrepreneur, Omojo Wada, popularly known as OJ Wada, who praised his dedication to service and leadership.

    Hon. Ifeoluwa Ehindero’s Legislative Contributions: A Year of Impactful Service

    In addition to his contributions at the local level, Hon. Ehindero has also played a crucial role at the national stage. He serves as the Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Reformatory Institutions. The committee is responsible for overseeing and reforming Nigeria’s correctional facilities, including prisons, juvenile detention centers, and rehabilitation institutions. Its mandate involves evaluating the conditions of these facilities, ensuring they meet international standards, and proposing legislative measures for improvement.

    Under the committee’s oversight, several critical challenges in the correctional system have been addressed, such as:

    • Overcrowding in correctional facilities

    • Inadequate infrastructure and poor living conditions

    • Lack of effective rehabilitation programs for inmates

    • Improving the welfare of correctional officers and prison staff

    The committee has also reviewed policies focused on transforming Nigeria’s prisons into genuine rehabilitation centers, emphasizing skills training, education, and reintegration programs aimed at reducing recidivism and improving post-incarceration opportunities.

    As Deputy Chairman, Hon. Ehindero plays a vital role in shaping these policies and ensuring that reformatory institutions operate effectively and humanely. His leadership in this area reflects his broader commitment to nation-building and reforms that prioritize human rights, social justice, and rehabilitation.

    Local Development and Grassroots Engagement

    Hon. Ehindero’s tenure at the local level has been equally impactful. Recognizing agriculture as a key driver of the local economy, he launched programs to support farmers, including the distribution of fertilizers in September 2024 at Okeagbe-Akoko to boost food production and ensure food security.

    In education, he has championed academic excellence by awarding scholarships to top-performing students, providing them with opportunities to pursue higher education and alleviating the financial burden on families.

    Healthcare has also been a priority, with Hon. Ehindero facilitating the provision of essential medical supplies and equipment to health centers in the constituency, greatly enhancing access to quality healthcare services.

    His continued grassroots engagement, active participation in community events, and close collaboration with local leaders demonstrate his deep commitment to addressing the needs of his constituents.
