  • U.S. Ambassador to UN disapproves of Trump’s “communication style”

U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said Sunday Trump’s “communication style” has made her uncomfortable, and has proven to have complicated relationships in the diplomatic sphere.

“He has his communication style, but you’re not hearing me defend that,” Haley told a CBS interview.

Haley illustrated her disagreement with Trump with a tweet in February accusing Latin American countries turning a blind eye on drug trafficking.

“They’re laughing at us, so I’m not a believer in that; I want to stop the aid.” Trump said in the tweet, referring to U.S. aid to the region.

Haley later embarked on a trip to Honduras to reconcile and reassure local authorities on U.S. foreign policy. “If they get education and they get training, then we know that they’re going to be productive,” Haley told the press after the trip, subtly walking back from the threatening tone of her boss.

“If there is anything that he communicates in a way that I’m uncomfortable with, I pick up the phone and call him,” Haley said in the interview and added that Trump has been “receptive” her opinion.

Trump has been known to make sensational claims and blunt assertions on social media, which he said helps him get his “unfiltered” message across, but has created controversy and sometimes even rifts in the delicate world of diplomacy.

With his unconventional style, Trump has also created strains with American longtime allies in Europe and Asia.

Earthquake strikes off the coast of Honduras

A 7.6-magnitude earthquake rocked an island archipelago 150 kilometres off the coast of Honduras late Tuesday, setting off regional tsunami advisories which were later cancelled.

The quake’s epicentre was 44 kilometres east of Honduras’ sparsely inhabited Swan Islands at a depth of 10 kilometres, according to reviewed results published by the U.S. Geological Survey.

According to the news report, tremors were felt in a number of places around the country after the quake hit at 8.51 pm (0251 GMT Wednesday), but there were no initial reports of damage or casualties.

The earthquake was also felt in neighbouring Guatemala, Costa Rica and El Salvador, as well as the Mexican state of Quintana Roo.

Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez urged citizens to “stay calm, report emergencies and follow the instructions of authorities.

Meanwhile, the country’s emergency services placed three of the country’s departments on a 12-hour tsunami alert: Gracias a Dios, Colon Atlantida and Islas de la Bahia.

The U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center also issued an advisory for a number of countries in the Caribbean but they later recalled all warnings, saying that the threat had passed.

Report says the region near Honduras is regularly hit by powerful earthquakes.

In 2017, two strong quakes struck Mexico, collapsing buildings and causing hundreds of fatalities.

In 2010, Haiti was hit by a devastating 7.0-magnitude quake, leading to over 200,000 deaths.

Tim Cahill fit for Honduras showdown

Veteran talisman Tim Cahill said Monday he had recovered from an ankle injury and was fit to play for Australia in this week’s World Cup play-off with Honduras in Sydney.

The country’s all-time leading scorer remained on the bench during the goalless first leg in San Pedro Sula on Friday but said he was expecting to make an appearance in Wednesday’s win or crash match to qualify for Russia 2018.

And the 103-cap forward said he would be ready to start if called upon by Coach Ange Postecoglou.

“If I had to play in Honduras I definitely would have made a contribution,” Cahill told reporters.

“That’s what it’s all about, putting your body on the line and sacrificing for these two games, for such a big occasion for our country to qualify for a fourth consecutive World Cup.

“I’m feeling really good. It was awesome to train in Honduras and get two sessions in so I feel great. I feel like I’m going to be involved and it’s all about Wednesday night.”

Cahill, at 37, remains an indispensable member of the Socceroos. His two headed goals earned Australia a 2-1 victory over Syria in Sydney last month to set up the intercontinental playoff with Honduras.

“We always respect our opponent but from the performance we’ve seen in Honduras, I feel the team is ready to put in a good performance,” he said.

Attacker Mathew Leckie, who did not make the long trip to Honduras because of a hamstring injury, has also declared his availability for the Sydney return leg.

Fans cheering on the USA at their World Cup qualifier against Honduras next month could be forgiven for confusing their team with England.

The US announced on Wednesday their team’s new men’s and women’s kit for the 2017 season, with Nike opting for an all-red strip.

The new 2017 strip is almost identical to the England away kit worn by Harry Kane and Co

The new kits, are a bold red colour palette, made from recycled polyester, and also features Nike’s AeroSwift technology.

USA’s shirt also features the words ‘1 Nation’ and ‘1 Team’ on the inside cuffs of the sleeve, with ‘USA’ displayed on the neckline.

The shorts are also red with black elastic side tape with the socks featuring red and orange on the calf.

Their kit is very similar to England’s second kit, with the notable difference being the badge and the Three Lions’ choice of blue around the neckline.

The USA team will debut their new kit on March 24 in their crucial World Cup qualifying match against Honduras in San Jose, California.

Clinton: U.S. needs orderly process for border kids

Hillary Rodham Clinton says she opposes changing a 2008 immigration law under consideration by Congress. The potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate says she supports creating a refugee screening process for Central American children in their home countries to discourage dangerous trips to the U.S.

Clinton says in an interview with Fusion’s Jorge Ramos that Congress should provide more funding to help immigration officials determine whether children should be considered migrants or refugees.

Some of the children should be sent back but Clinton says the U.S. needs an “orderly process” to care for the children crossing the border.

The White House is considering a pilot program that would give refugee status to young people from Honduras.

Republicans want to change the 2008 law so the migrant youths can be sent home more quickly.
