Students’ belongings were yesterday lost to a midnight fire in a section of Queen Elizabeth Hall, University of Ibadan (UI).
Although nobody died, students scampered for safety, as the fire began around 1:30am.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager, Oyo State Fire Service, Revd Akinyemi Akinyinka, said: “The agency received a distress call at exactly 01:43hrs from Miss Ibikunle Hallen.
“Immediately, fire personnel were deployed in the institution, they arrived in time.

“On getting to the place, it was discovered that two rooms at the upper floor at Queen Elizabeth Hall were affected.
‘’Belongings worth billions of naira were saved. No casualty was recorded. The fire was extinguished together with UI Fire Service personnel.”
Student Union President, Comrade Aweda Bolaji and Secretary, Comrade Ogundijo Japheth, commiserated with the victims. They hailed the university management for their swift response, particularly the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Peter Olapegba.
