  • BBNaija: Fans to vote for one more housemate

MultiChoice Nigeria has announced the commencement of online voting for BBNaija online auditions, which held from 25th to 27th February. Contestants were expected to record a two-minute video, stating why they should be picked to become housemates in this year’s Big Brother Naija.

The online auditions were an unprecedented move by MultiChoice Nigeria and a way of giving voice to the audience, giving them the power to vote a Housemate into the House.

10 contestants were selected from the online auditions and the voting portal (https://africamagic.dstv.com/show/big-brother-nigeria/audition) opened on Thursday and DStv and GOtv subscribers are expected to vote daily for the personality they would like to see in the house; this started from March 21, and will end on March 31 2019.

Organisers say voting is open to only active DStv and GOtv subscribers who may vote in 10 voting round(s) across the voting period. Voting rounds are open from 9am to 11pm on March 21 and from midnight to 11pm from March 22nd to March 31st.

To vote, participants are to simply register on https://africamagic.dstv.com/show/big-brother-nigeria/audition using their Twitter of Facebook username, enter their smartcard, phone number, and accept the official voting rules. Once that is done, a voter will be taken to the audition page to meet the 10 candidates. The voter can then select the preferred candidate and will receive a verification message.

MultiChoice Nigeria CEO, John Ugbe believes that the online auditions democratise the BBNaija process.  “The online auditions are a way of involving our subscribers in the decision-making process of who gets to go into the house. They are the reason the show remains popular, always rooting for their favourite Housemates. Also, just thinking about the people who turned up for the physical auditions, we thought to give them another opportunity. Big Brother is a fun show and rejigging things a little bit shows that there is no predetermined script even though it continues to follow the international format,” he said.

•As Efe is crowned Head of House

For announcing his flair for cooking at last Sunday’s launch of lifestyle reality show, Big Brother Naija, Miyonse Amosu Oluwaseyi, a Mass Communication graduate from University of Lagos, caught the attention of many who wanted to see how his chosen profession will play out in the house.

Miyonse’s chosen career became the subject of discussion when, on Monday, housemates decided to share their personal experiences after dinner. They all talked about growing up, work, career path as well as family.

Miyonse was asked why he chose to be a chef and how it is different from being a caterer. He spoke about how he knew he wouldn’t get fulfillment from a nine-to-five job, which was why he confided in his sister about attending a culinary school with particular interest in Chinese cuisine.

‘I have always had interest in Chinese cuisine and when I shared it with my siblings, they laughed and wondered what I wanted to achieve by being a cook, which was looked at as a girl’s job,’ Miyonse said. He however, kept at it even after the first culinary school he registered in got burnt the very day he was to resume. With support from his elder sister, he persevered and registered with another culinary school. Today, he is a chef and not a caterer and the money is certainly not bad. ‘Wetin you come dey do here’ quipped TallThinTony, a statement which elicited laughter across the room.

Miyonse explains that a caterer is proficient in Nigerian dishes and prepares a variety of dishes for an occasion but a Chef has culinary skills which transcends Nigerian dishes and makes a full course meal plan before he begins cooking. From being a Sous Chef, he is today the Head Chef where he works in Abuja.

Bisola, the actress, talked about her days in boarding school and how she didn’t even have exercise books to do her school work. Her story was however, cut short when housemates moved to the garden lawn to work out after which Tripple T (TallThinTony) led them in salsa dance lessons.

Day one in the Big Brother house was very exciting with lots of drama as Efe was crowned the Head of House.

There is more drama to come as Big Brother is giving tricky tasks to the housemates.

Biggie, as he is fondly called, has instructed HOH Efe and the other housemates that anyone who wants to dethrone the current HoH can do so; but he warns that this coup can only be performed with guile and cunning. The HoH can take off his royal ornaments, but he should keep them locked up in the royal box. Losing the key to this box will mean that whoever has the keys, and opens the box will automatically become the new HoH.

Fans of the show await how this plays out, knowing the other housemates will be secretly scheming to become HoH, if only for the immunity of being evicted by this Sunday.

Unknown to them, instead of an eviction this Sunday, Biggie’s plan is to have two additional housemates join the competition.

The dairy sessions shall unwittingly unveil what strategies the housemates may have to guarantee they end up as the last man or woman standing.

Big Brother Naija:12 housemates make dramatic entry

With each man and woman trying to  create a lingering first impression, 12 young Nigerians, Sunday night,  made a dramatic entry into the Big Brother Naija house, making a stop on the ceremonial stage where the host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu prodded them a little on their expectations and game plans.

The crowd of Nigerians at the Red Pepper studio, Johannesburg, where the show is being recorded, added verve to the night of revelations, as fans were eager to know which celebrity was among the contestants.

It happened that a few guys like Thintalltony,  a popular dancer; CocoIce, a burgeoning female rapper and Bisola,  a notable actress in a Web series titled ‘Skinny Girl in transit’  were among the pick.

There was also Efe, an indigene of Delta State who came with the naughty/comic character associated with Warri boys. He was the last to enter the house, giving the show the desired climax.

The ceremony was spiced up with musical performances by K9, an RnB vocalist, the self acclaimed Mama Africa, Yemi Alade and Highlife crooner, Flavour N’abania.

Yemi and Flavour both hit the stage twice during the show.

As usual of twists on Big Brother shows, Biggie announced to fans that instead of the eviction which the housemates believe will see the exit of one of them this Sunday, two additional housemates will be added to the show.

In a dramatic irony, the contestants will play for ‘likes’, in which two housemates with the least number of ‘likes’ will exit in a false elimination exercise that will proceed next Sunday’s surprise.

The would-be winner will leave the house with N25 million and a brand new Kia Sorento.

Tagged ‘See Gobbe’,  housemates are expected to showcase their own unique brand as a Nigerians.

The 11 weeks of twists, turns, laughter and tears that the show is made of started last night, broadcasting live in 45 countries from Nigeria through East, West and Southern Africa on DStv on channel 198 and GOtv channel 29 24/7.

Headline sponsor of the show is Nigeria’s online retail store, PayPorte.
