    Firm commits to nurturing ICT talent, holds job fair

    Huawei Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing digital talent, driving innovation, and building a strong technology ecosystem for Nigeria, Africa, and the world.

    Managing Director of Huawei Nigeria Enterprise Business Group, Terrens Wu, spoke in Abuja at an event to mark 2025 Huawei Abuja Job Fair, the Ninth Huawei ICT Competition Global Awards, and launch of the 10th edition.

    He said the event is a vibrant intersection of “achievement, aspiration, and opportunity” that reflects Huawei’s vision of developing a robust pipeline of ICT professionals.

    Wu praised students from Federal University of Technology, Minna; University of Ibadan; and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, for their performance in the competition.

    “In the nine editions, we have seen how this platform transforms potential into real skill, ambition into achievement, and students into industry-ready professionals,” he said.

    Wu launched the 10th edition, promising an even more challenging and impactful experience.

    Participants, he said, would engage with transformative technologies such as 5G, AI, Cloud Computing, and Internet of Things (IoT).

    Wu said Huawei relies on collaboration with government to align with national digital agenda, with academia to design relevant curricula and training to ensure skills match market demand.

    Senior Public Relations Manager, Oyin Abiola, said Huawei’s vision is to bring digital technology to every person, home, and organisation.

    Dr. Abiola noted Huawei’s role in helping customers achieve milestones in telecoms, such as supporting Glo in deploying 3G network, Airtel for 4G, and MTN for 5G network.

    Huawei Nigeria launches innovation center, reaffirms commitment to industrial digitalisation, intelligence

    • Connectivity, Cloud, AI, and Solar Power have become essential not only for daily operations but also for seizing opportunities and ensuring sustained growth. 

    The Maiden edition of the Huawei Day Nigeria was held on Tuesday during which the company unveiled its state-of-the-art Innovation Center to promote technological innovation in Nigeria.

    The 3-day event themed “Accelerating Industrial Intelligence” signals a major step forward in fostering co-innovation with local customers and partners in Nigeria’s ICT ecosystem. 

    The event was well attended by key stakeholders including the Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani; The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; President of Huawei Data Storage Product Line, Dr. Peter Zhou; Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi.

    In his welcome address, the CEO of Huawei Nigeria, Chris Lu, commended the Federal Government for its unwavering commitment to accelerating Nigeria’s digital transformation, noting that “Huawei had been honored to develop in Nigeria since 1999, over the past 25 years, we collaborated with industry leaders and partners in building a solid foundation of digital infrastructure. The Huawei Day Nigeria 2025 event ushers us into the next 25 years of Huawei in Nigeria, as well as a new AI era.”

    “AI is not the technology of future, it is today, it is now. To develop industrial intelligence, we need advanced AI-ready digital infrastructure, from ubiquitous connectivity to modern data center to cloud. On cloud service, the launch of Nigeria’s first Hyperscale Local Cloud by Huawei ensures that businesses can store their data safely in Nigeria, with ultra-low latency, and 24/7 service support.

    Huawei is also integrating digital technology into Nigeria’s power sector by developing advanced solar solutions, which are widely used in industries and rural communities, thus providing green and reliable energy. This approach ensures that AI is not only powerful but also environmentally sustainable,” Lu stated.

    Speaking on the significance of Huawei’s Innovation Center to Nigeria’s digital transformation, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMoCIDE), Dr. Bosun Tijani, lauded Huawei and stressed the importance of co-creating saying “without partnerships, we can’t drive innovative and modern ways of leapfrogging our economy. That is why, this innovation center launched today is an important one for us as a government because it offers us the opportunity to co-create the path to our future, ensuring that Nigeria is not just a consumer of technology, but also a nation that can partner with the best companies in the world to develop technology solution that suits our needs.”

    In a goodwill message, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, also commended Huawei’s efforts. According to His Excellency, “Huawei has not only delivered on its great ambition of 25 years ago when it entered the Nigerian market but has also become an indispensable partner that is significantly contributing to the robustness of Lagos’ ICT ecosystem.”

    Referencing a key point mentioned by Huawei Nigeria’s CEO regarding the launch of a local cloud in Nigeria, the Governor described the local cloud as “a first of its kind achievement” which the government is proud of as it allows Nigeria localize its data and addresses key data sovereignty concerns which has been one of the country’s greatest challenge.  In line with this, the Governor further disclosed that over the past five years, Lagos has successfully attracted great investment through cutting-edge technologies, and pioneering innovative solutions across various sectors – thereby providing an opportunity to empower every Lagosian—regardless of background—to engage meaningfully in opportunities presented by technology.

    Regarding Industrial Intelligence, President of Huawei Data Storage Product Line, Dr. Peter Zhou, stated that AI is not only benefiting consumers, but greatly encouraging industries, from Autonomous Driving to Fintech, from Power to Transportation, from Mining to Weather Forecast, AI is unlocking solutions once thought impossible. 

    In his presentation, Dr. Zhou showcased Huawei’s commitment in developing AI-ready infrastructure, building full stack AI capability, including advanced network with ultra-low latency, modern data storage with EB-level large cluster, intelligent computing and cloud services. Likewise, to cope with the demand on massive data volume in AI era, Huawei innovatively provided AI Data Lake, which empowers industries to efficiently embrace AI.

    Huawei Innovation Center: A Platform for Co-Creation and Shared Success

    Following a tour of the facility, the Huawei Nigeria Innovation Center was officially launched in the presence of distinguished guests from across Nigeria’s tech and business communities.

    The center is a dynamic platform where customers, partners, and ICT talents can explore the latest technologies, share global best practices, and co-create tailored solutions across key sectors such as government, education, finance, power, and Oil & Gas.

    Its launch underscores Huawei’s enduring commitment to Nigeria’s digital transformation — aligning with the Strategy Blueprint of FMoCIDE which is also tailored to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government. 

    Looking ahead, Huawei will continue to deepen collaboration with the Nigerian MDAs and industries to grow together, innovate together, and build an intelligent Nigeria for collective prosperity.
