Organisers of the Spires 5-Aside Naira Street Soccer Tournament has unveiled broadcast journalist and political enthusiast, Ezugwu Chukwudi, as the first brand ambassador of the wave-making grassroots tournament.
Making the announcement at a well- attended media parley in Lagos yesterday, Dr Femi Bankole, the CEO of Spires Media, said Chukwudi otherwise known by his comic name, ‘Husband Material’ fits the bill to be so considered as the face of the tournament, adding there would still be formal announcement of few more ambassadors in due course.
“One more thing; one of the reasons we have gathered here today is to officially announced ‘Husband Material’ as the first ambassador of our project, Spires 5-Aside Naira Street Soccer Tournament ,” Dr. Bankole cheerily announced .“ We have searched and we think that ‘Husband Material’ fits the bill of the kind of personality that can help us drive this project and this is just the first of such ambassadorial posts.”
Chukwudi on his part, noted that he has no doubt that the Spires 5-Aside Naira Street Soccer Tournament would open up the Nigerian football market, adding the organisers deserve a pat on the back for the unique way they have brought to bear on the organisation of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the chief promoter of the tournament, Dr. Bankole, explained further that the competition, ‘ street soccer without violence, is not about competition for cash prizes on offer but a platform for human development , empowerment and opportunity.
He noted that after a rigorous selection and prequalification process involving some 40 matches across five divisions of Lagos, the inaugural main tournament will accommodate 16 teams off ‘with the round of 16 on November 9’ in a yet to be determined venue.
“The Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament has been designed to create a new standard in youth empowerment, human capital development and fostering teamwork, physical fitness and social inclusion at the community level for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to come together, compete and connect,” he said. “Looking ahead, we expect the tournament to become an annual breeding ground for future stars on the international stage. We envision nurturing raw talent into world-class athletes, elevating Nigeria’s football culture and uniting communities through the game.”
