    Hushpuppi was my friend but I didn’t know his profession – Davido

    Grammy-nominated singer Davido has spoken about his friendship with Hushpuppi, saying he was unaware of the socialite’s fraudulent activities.

    In a chit-chat, Davido expressed solidarity with Hushpuppi, who is serving a jail term in the US and predicted he would be released soon.

    Davido attributed some individuals’ involvement in illegal businesses to the economic hardship in Nigeria, stating that people may turn to such means to escape poverty.

    He emphasised that he doesn’t condone fraud but showed empathy towards his friend.

    He said: “Hushpuppi is coming out soon. He lived life. To me, it is not worth it to be locked up. But let me not make excuses for them [fraudsters]. Some people are happy to ball for five years and that is it.

    “In Nigeria, there is a kind of hardship you would face and you will be like, you know what? Let me ball for two years then I am good.

    “People are like that. My prayers go out to him [Hushpuppi]. He was my friend. I just see him around, I never really knew what he was doing. But he lived a good life”.

    Singer Idowu Adeyemi aka Yhemo Lee has begged Nigerians to put a halt to the comparison between him and Hushpuppi.

    Netizens praised and promoted Yhemo Lee on social media after a viral video showed him lavishly showering individuals with cash.

    However, some felt the need to make comparisons between him and other well-known figures with the famed Hushpuppi one of the names offered.

    Yhemo Lee quickly issued a strong warning to people making these similarities, pleading with them not to do so and to avoid putting him in danger.

    Hushpuppi is a character well-known for his extravagant way of life and involvement in scams.

    Before his collapse, Hushpuppi had gained a sizable following after making headlines for acquiring enormous money through dishonest ways.

    Some online users even went so far as to claim that Yhemo Lee was wealthier than Hushpuppi.

    He shared his worries and a sincere request for understanding on his Twitter account.

    In a tweet, Yhemo Lee urged his followers and fans to refrain from comparing him to Hushpuppi.

    He also spoke out on the potential consequences of such comparisons, hinting that Hushpuppi was bigger than he was.

    “Abeg make una stop to Dev compare me with Hushpuppi Abeg. Na so una Dey let person quick @e.. Shey from this my beer parlor work na him una Dey take talk this one. Na beg I Dey beg una do. Make una no put me for trouble at this small age,” he saId.
