    Alia: I need prayers to survive landmines by anti-people forces

    Benue state governor, Hyacinth Alia on Monday, January 31, asked his alma mater, St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary, Makurdi, the state capital, to pray for the success of his administration.

    He said he needed prayers to triumph over landmines planted by anti-people forces.

    The seminary belongs to the Catholic Ecclesiastical Province of Abuja, comprising the Arch Diocese of Abuja and the Dioceses of Lokoja, Idah, Makurdi, Gboko, Lafia, Otukpo and Katsina Ala.

    It is the third largest Seminary in the country after Bigard Memorial Seminary Enugu and St. Augustine Major Seminary, Jos.

    Alia made the request during his visit to the school, where he was received by the Vice Rector, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Samuel Akagwu, who thanked him for remembering his alma mater.

    According to a statement by his Principal Special Assistant (Print Media), the Fr. Akagwu thanked the governor for the on going access road project in the school.

    He said the road, when completed, will serve, not only the seminary, but also the people living within the neighborhood.

    Fr. Akagwu, who appealed to the governor to regularly visit the school, highlighted its challenges, including hostel accommodation and an auditorium.

    The president of the alumni association, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Thomas Omiru said the alumni were proud of the governor because of his achievements in the last eight months.

    Presenting the ‘Award of Service to Humanity’ from the association to the governor, Omiru said it was in recognition of his feats, which have been hailed by other secular organizations.

    Fr. Alia thanked the association for the honour, promising not to let the institute the association down.

    He commended the service of priests who live at the grassroots with the people, saying that they bear testimony to the peooleexperience.

    He urged the priests as leaders of the church to collaborate with the government at all levels since most of the functions carried out by the church, including health care delivery, provision of schools and care for the poor are functions of government.

    He said despite being governor, he still maintained his status as a priest, adding that he will remain a priest after leaving office.

    Fr. Alia said he chose to serve as governor because of his love for the masses, stressing that he will serve them diligently.

    He commendd priests who are working in difficult and volatile environments, assuring them of his hand of fellowship.

    Alia urged the priests to always take the celebration of the Holy Eucharist seriously, saying that it provides solution to all challenges.

    He said the Holy Eucharist will serve as the source of strength to all who believe in it.

    The governor said at aquiet moment, the Liturgy of the Hour brings about calmness and inner discovery in the life of a priest.

    The governor urged the clerics to always remember him in their prayers so that his government can always navigate through the landmines that are usually planted by anti-people forces.

    Alia donated five cows and 20 bags of rice to the alumni association and five cows and 100 bags of rice to the Seminarians.

    Benue Governor Alia: brighter future coming for Nigerians

    Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia thanked God for the people of the state, who witnessed this year’s celebration, despite the socio-economic challenges confronting the country.

    The governor, in a statement by his media aide, Donald Kumun, urged the people to sustain the hope for a brighter future.

    He described Christmas as a celebration that is divine, spiritual and honourable, saying that its lessons should be imbibed.

    Rev. Fr. Alia enjoined Christians, and indeed all residents of Benue to emulate the virtues of love, peace, harmony and extention of a duty of care to their neighbours, particularly the needy, so that all can share in the joy of the celebrations.

    He said: “As we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, we must imbibe Christ-like behaviours, including simplicity, humility, kindness, passion, compasion and genuine love.

    “We should reflect on the fate of our nation and pray for our leaders for God to lead them aright and we must cooperate with them in the course of delivering more dividends of democracy. We should pray for our president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that God should order his steps as he takes the nation to the horizon of prosperity.”

    The governor also called for peace among the political class, saying that no concrete feat can be achieved in an atmosphere of discord.

    Rev. Fr. Alia urged residents to also cooperate with security agencies in the onerous tasks of fostering security and peace in the state.

    Benue State governor, Hyacinth Alia, at the weekend paid an unscheduled visit to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital( BSUTH) and prayed for the patients on admission.

    The governor also inspected the ongoing renovation and upgrading of facilities at the gigantic teaching hospital.

    He commended the Chief Medical Director, CMD, DR.Hwande Steven for the massive work he is carrying out in the hospital.

    Governor Alia prayed for patients on admission and wished them quick recovery ahead of Yuletide.

    He also advised the staff to be patient with the patients on admission.

    The Governor of Benue State Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume have called for unity among political leaders and followers for the development of the state.

    Senator Akume also declared that no is going to run away with APC mandate again in Benue state.

    Recall ,the then Governor Samuel Ortom was elected on the platform of APC in 2015, but in the 2019 election, he dumped the party and joined Peopes Democratic Party, PDP.

    Speaking at the second All Progressive Congress, APC, stakeholders meeting in Government House Makurdi, on Saturday, Governor Alia and Senator Akume stated that only unity of purpose will bring about the much-needed development of the state.

    Senator Akume, represented by Elder Simon Shango caution political jobbers against forcing the Governor to inherit their perceived enemies.

    The SGF who urged the people to keep faith with the All Progressive Congress, APC, and the administration of President Bola Tinubu, said the President is committed to building a new Nigeria where everyone will have a sense of belonging.

    Earlier, Governor Alia highlighted the achievements of his administration within five months in office including the ongoing construction of 16 road projects in the state capital and some Local Government areas, total reconstruction of the Benue State House of Assembly complex, and prompt payment of salaries and pensioners.

    The Governor disclosed that very soon palliative will be distributed not to only APC members but the entire people of Benue state calling for patience from the party faithful.

    Speaking on behalf of the people of Benue North East Senatorial zone, Senator Tilley Gyado reminded Governor Alia that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator, SGF, Senator George Akume has no problem with him.

    “Senator Akume Loves you and he wants you to succeed as a governor as such he has no problem with you, his house is your own, and you can visit him even dead of the night.

    “Let me caution that nobody should detach you from Akume and there should be no intercessor between you and the SGF, he provided the structures that you won, so see him as a father”.

    While Akange Audu spoke for the people of Zone B, and reiterated the call for unity, Senator Ameh Ebute, who spoke on behalf of Zone C, pleaded with the Governor to tackle the problem of insecurity in Benue South Senatorial zone, occasions by kidnappings, armed robbery and bandits attacks.
