I Go Dye to Buhari: leave when ovation is loud

In his continued campaign against recycling of political leaders, stand-up comedian,

Francis Agoda, aka I Go Dye, who last year, dished former vice President, Atiku Abubakar, following his return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has a word for president Muhammadu Buhari over his likely second term bid.

The comedian, a UN youth ambassador, is advocating for a process that will afford the youth the opportunity in political leadership, has advised President Buhari not to seek re-election as being insinuated in some quarters.

The entertainer said he is making “a passionate appeal to his Excellency, President Mohamadu Buhari, not contest the 2019 Presidential elections  and a clarion call to all tradition leaders, Ex-presidents, diplomatic communities  elder statesmen, professional bodies, entertainers and Nigerian youths to lay their voices to end political recycling, because a future bequeathed to Nigerian youths today, will be the best legacy.”

His appeal is coming a day after former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s much publicized letter to Buhari on a similar issue.

I Go Dye who took the President through some of the best moments of his (Buhari) youth, noted that “the youths of today are grieving every day, because so much has been taken away from them.”

“We all have our different birth dates,   yours was in 1942. You joined the Nigerian Army at the age of 19 in 1961.Just three years in military service, Nigerian government sent you and a few others to commonwealth military academy training at Aldershot in England, between 1962- 1963, a testimony of how government cared and protected the youths at that time. At 22 years you were already the platoon commander of the second infantry Battalion. Thereafter, at the age of 25 years,  you were the among the few soldiers that were involved in the counter- coup of 1966, which included your colleagues in service, Abacha 23 years, IBB 25 years and the oldest was Danjuma 28 years and a host of others. In 1975, at 33 years, you were already the Governor of North Eastern States .While in 1976 at 34 years, you were appointed as the minister of petroleum. Meanwhile, two years later, in 1979, I was born into this world; the story has been the same old story, when e go better? In 1983, at the age of 41 years as a sign of displeasure with the Shehu Shagari led civil government, you conquered your fears and risked your life to overthrow the democratic structure at that time, at this young age 41 you became the Head of State. Today you are 75years old, and president of Nigeria, nothing can be found to still be missing, apart from the fact that the youths have not been protected even in your administration.”

He highlighted some of the problems facing the ordinary man to include, electricity, food, shelter, and unemployment.

“Let me recall, previously I wrote you a letter titled: logic and reasons without guns, I spoke on some issues affecting us as a people. If we don’t change our political process, sooner than later, the youths will demand for it, I just pray it’s not too late.”

I go Dye advised the president to consider quitting office and lead the process of advancing and transferring political leadership to the youths in 2019, as there is nothing left for him to conquer.

“I am not against your political ambition, neither  am I opposing your interest but I am of the view that it’s better to leave the stage when the ovation is loud.

Honestly speaking, there is nothing new for you to conquer, the only sacrifice that will bring more honour to your personality, is for you to lead the process of advancing and transferring political leadership to the youths.

“The best gift that you can obviously give to my generation is to activate and set the process of ending the long and over -due political recycling’s that has denied the youths their rightful place in our political history as Nation,” he said.

    •Dedicates honour to pensioners

Popular comedian, Francis Agoda, better known as I Go Dye, has been honoured by Ukaid and Youth Alive Foundation, for lending his voice to speak against ills in the society.

Recently, the comedian has been in the news for speaking on different issues that have to do with Nigeria, including corruption, welfare of the youths, good leadership, among others.

Sharing the good news on his Instagram handle, the comedian wrote, “First I thank Ukaid and Youth Alive Foundation for this, making a difference against corruption today. I am humbled to receive this honour and I feel more obligated to influence my generation to live selflessly”.

Dedicating the award to pensioners, he stated, “Consequently, I dedicate this award to all pensioners across the country and their children, whom have suffered so much for their families, bearing in mind that their parents worked selflessly for this nation, yet they have faced series of tribulations, just trying to get their pension entitlements.

“Many of these pensioner’s children have continued to walk the endless journey of accompanying their loved across the country. Honestly, their children and next of kin have gone through a lot. I commend their sacrifices.

“I want to once again remind us, that the issue of corruption witnessed against pensioners is the highest form of ill treatment against humanity, denying them their benefits is unimaginable in a society like ours that has no social welfare package for elderly people. We all should speak now for their comfort, because this is part of the reasons why young people hate public service and when they often get employment they see it as a means to steal public funds to preserve them against foreseeable situations facing pensioners across the nation.”

I go dye was recently in the news when he wrote an open letter to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, asking him to quit using sentimental empathy on the youths to express his political ambition.

Comedian I Go Dye throws jab at Atiku

Ace comedian and United Nations Millennium Development Goal Ambassador, Francis Agoda, also known as ‘ I Go Dye ‘ has warned former Vice President Abubakar Atiku to not use sentimental empathy on youths as he goes about his 2019 presidential ambition.

“Sir, you are one of those that have immensely benefited from Nigeria since your birth in 1946,” he said.

“Having worked for 20 years with the Nigeria Customs where you retired at the age of 43 in 1989 as Deputy Director, your bucket list sure looks good because you were obviously employed at youthful age of 23.

“In 1999 you became governor of Adamawa State and ultimately the Vice President, all of these you achieved at 53. What did you do during your time in that exalted position?  When will the youths like in your time get a chance? I am motivated to speak, based on your statement: A party that does not take the youths into account is a dying party. The future belongs to the young. Please which of the future?

“Remarkably, between 1999 and 2007 that you were the Vice president of Nigeria, it is recorded that tertiary institutions witnessed several strikes that wasted seventeen months, three weeks and three days. Within this period, what did you do?”

Continuing, he emphasised that the former Vice President never truly had the interests of the youth at heart, accusing him of never implementing a programme in the interest of youths in the country.

“If social support were given to youths then, their children will be between 18 and 20 years during the 2019 elections, obviously they would have willingly voted for you or anyone that you endorse in 2019. This is the essence of making sacrifices for the future generation. You cannot be credited to have been philanthropic to the youths. The recent revocation of the NPA contract with Intel, your company, is the major issue. As a company either, the people in the region you operated cannot accredit Intel to have provided credible  support for the youths or built skills acquisition centers to  curb  unproductivity as part of it’s corporate social responsibility , which has resulted to many youths embarking on the sub- Sahara deserts route travel to Europe, which has claimed many lives”

“Your Excellency Sir  Atiku Abubakar, please don’t use sentimental empathy on the youths to express your political ambitions, because by 2019 the youths are preparing to substantiate the real economical, political and progressive change. I kindly recommend that you should advocate for process that will afford us the opportunity of a youthful leadership in the 2019 election.”

‘I Go Dye’ is a recipient of many awards including the United Nations Millennium Development Goal Ambassador; United Nations World Habitat Ambassador and 2017 African Child Prize. He is also listed among 100 Most Influential Persons in Africa by Global Icons and 100 Most Influential Deltans among others.

‘I Go Dye’ commends army’s handling of IPOB agitation

Following recent agitation for the creation of an independent state by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), celebrated stand-up comedian, Francis Agoda, aka ‘I Go Dye’, has commended the Nigerian Army for the role it played in dousing the tension in the South Eastern part of the country.

In the chat with the Nation, the UN ambassador also said that politicians who have failed to address the issue should be blamed.

“The recent agitations in the country, especially the South East led Kanu’s (Indigenous People of Biafra) IPOB is a failure on the part of the legislators and governors who were elected to protect their people. Why should all of us who have taken a pledge to defend the unity of this country through the national anthem, actively watched a civil situation expand into a monster, now been curtailed by the military? What a failure on our democracy,” he observed.

Continuing, he said: “Let me remind us that almost all democratic institutions failed to mediate on the issues prior to this time, until the military stepped in to control further damage. I keeping wondering what were the honourable legislative members of both the State and Federal Houses of Assembly were doing all along, to redeem the situation or proffer as an alternative, to  peacefully resolve the issues before the military got involved?”

Speaking further, ‘I Go Dye’ observed that until the military came into the southeast, majority of well-meaning business people were afraid and were losing money every day for fear of the unknown.

“This is not a time to trade blames, but a time to sit back as patriots and awaken our loyalty to Nigeria. We all have a responsibility to preserve this nation for our children, but from my point of view the military has been more outstanding  in this regards, we all need to appreciate, thank the soldier and its affiliate institutions for their service to the nation,” he added.
