  • Emir of Lapai visits IBBUL

    Emir of Lapai HRH Umaru BahagoI has praised the management of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai IBBUL), Niger State, for embarking on capital projects that have direct impact on the institution and students’ lives. He is also happy that the location of the institution in Lapai, has improved the social and economic lives of the community.

    Emir Bahagol, who visited IBBUL on an inspection tour of its facilities, also  lauded the style of its vice chancellor, Prof Muhammad Nasiru Maiturare, for making IBBUL one of the renowned citadels of learning globally

    Responding, Prof Maiturare expressed appreciation for the visit. Maiturare thanked the visitor for the rosy relationship between IBBUL and its host community.

    He led the royal father and his entourage on an inspection tour of some completed and ongoing projects.

    Some of the projects inspected included: ongoing e-learning centre, 300-seat capacity twin lecture theatre, x-ray unit of the university clinic, medical college’s Centre for Applied Sciences, Technology Research (CASTER), as well as a perimeter fencing of the permanent site of the university and ongoing 80-capacity students hostel.

    The emir charged the contractors handling the projects to double their efforts in order to meet with the completion schedules.

  • IBBUL holds workshop on quality assurance

    Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL) Niger State, has organised a workshop on quality assurance implementation for line management members of the staff.

    The aim, according to the Directorate of Quality Assurance, is to enhance their performance and productivity.

    Speaking during the exercise at IBBUL’s ICT Complex, the Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof Mohammed Nasiru Maiturare, underlined the importance of the workshop towards academic excellence and global best practices.

    He also stated that the QA aimed at establishing a world standard system that would improve internal efficiency across all the sectors of the university. He said institutionalising QA culture in the university was in line with the requirements of the National Universities Commission (NUC) for universities nationwide, so as to guide generic processes and standard policies and procedures for good practices in the university system.

    Maiturare expressed approval for the efforts by the directorates of QA for organising the workshop and assured of steady support.

    Also speaking, Director, Quality Assurance of the university, Prof Mohammed Tajudeen Mustapha, said the workshop was organised to endow participants with better QA practices towards developing academic leadership for excellence and overall institutional edge.  He stated that the enactment and accomplishments of the quality assurance in IBBUL, are timely and appreciated, adding that it would it go a long way in achieving the vision of the university as an excellent centre of learning.

  • 29 bags first class honours in IBBUL

    29 graduating students have bagged First Class in the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University, Lapai ( IBBUL ), the Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Nasiru Maiturare has disclosed.

    Briefing newsmen during the Convocation Press Briefing, Maiturare said that 6,348 students would be graduating in the second combined convocation ceremony which would be held on Saturday.

    Giving a breakdown of the statistics of graduates by class of degree, he said that 1,281 would be graudting with Second Class Upper, 3,290 would be graduating with Second class lower,1,613 with Pass while 135 got Pass.

    The Vice Chancellor also said that the University would be graduating its first set of 118 Postgraduate graduands with 82 Postgraduate Diploma students and 36 Masters.

    He added that a Honorary Doctorate Degree would be conferred to Sheik Ahmed Lemuel while a Honorary Fellowship of the University would be conferred to NNPC Group Managing Director, Dr. Makanfi Bari adding that a N7 billion endowment fund would be lunched during the convocation.

    Speaking on the result of the student, Maiturare assured that the school is working towards increasing the quality of learning to ensure that the students graduate with good grades, “I am assuring that the University would work on poor performances and hope that with our improved learning facilities, the performance level of the students will improve.”

    4,377 denied admission into IBBUL

    The Vice Chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU),  Lapai,  Prof Muhammad Nasiru Maiturare has said over half of the eligible candidates (4,377) who were screened for admission could not be taken.

    He said that out of the 8,466 candidates that were screened, only 4,089 candidates were offered admission for the 2017/2018 Academic Session.

    Speaking at the 12th Matriculation, Maiturare said in all 17,751 candidates applied for admission from all states of the federation and Ghana.

    He said this session’s admission exercise was very challenging as a result of the increase in the number of applicants to the university.

    He stated some students were admitted into courses other than what they applied explaining that about 75 per cent of the candidates applied for 10 of the courses on offer which left over other 20 courses without enough students.

    “About 75 per cent of the candidates applied for 10 of the courses on offer, with most of such courses having over 1,000 applicants, leaving the other 20 programmes with just about 25 per cent of the applicants. I therefore urge you to accept the new course wholeheartedly and do your best to excel in it”, he advised.

    The VC urged the students to adopt positive attitudes, remain agents of positive change and be peace advocates.

    He expressed the institution’s readiness to create a conducive and enabling environment to make the students realise their full potential.

  • IBBUL to study solid minerals in three states

    The Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, has been commissioned by the Raw Materials Research Development Council (RMRDC) to commence research  into solid mineral deposits in three states in the country.

    Speaking at the take-off of the research in Mashegu, the varsity’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Muhammad Maiturare, said the amount advanced for the work was N18 million.

    He added that the university would work on the characterisation of the minerals found in Niger, Nasarawa and Kogi states in the Northcentral zone.

    Maiturare said the outcome of the research would promote the development of industrial minerals  in industries and contribute to fulfilling RMRDC’s mandate.

    “Solid minerals have been identified as a priority area and any research in that sector would contribute to the growth and development of the nation and address major challenges in our technological drive and in addressing our employment problem,” he said.

    Already, the VC said the research team had discovered mineral deposit sites that contain significant reserves that could be used for many years, adding that five sites would be visited in Niger State.

    He said the university has been identified as one of the best in geological research in the country.

    The leader of the research team and Director of the IBBUL Research Centre, Prof Nuhu Obaje, said the team had discovered a site with large volume of clay in Mashegu Local Government Area that could serve ceramic or sanitary ware industries for 25 years.

    “Here in Mashegu, we have discovered a site for clay deposit. The clay here is in large volume. When mined, the clay deposits can be used for ceramics, sanitary wares, tiles and pharmaceuticals. After the search, we will conduct item analysis to know what properties it contains so that we will be able to recommend what industry it would be useful for,” the don said.

  • IBBUL sex scandal: Lecturer, student to face suspension

    THE management of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), has recommended the suspension of the lecturer and student involved in a sex scandal that rocked the institution few  weeks ago.

    It will be recalled that a sexual scandal involving Malam Ishaq Yusuf, a teacher in the Department of English Language and Communication Studies, and a 400-Level undegraduate of the department, Chidimma Mercy Samuel, had gone viral on social media.

    The investigation panel set up by the management recommended the suspension of the duo.

    The panel headed by a Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Samual Kolo Tswanya, which submitted its report to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammed Nasir Maiturare, at the weekend, also recommended the referral of the principal suspects in the scandal to various disciplinary committees of the institution.

    The committee said 20 people, including the principal actors, were interrogated during its sitting.

    Maiturare thanked the committee for a job well done, adding that the recommendations would be studied and implemented.

    He said it had become imperative for the institution to remain focused and to produce high quality graduates who are worthy in both character and learning.

    He warned that the management team would not tolerate any misconduct by staff and students that could tarnish the image of the university.

  • NIPSS praises IBBUL programmes

    The management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), has been commended for initiating developmental academic programmes that will accelerate the socio-economic fortunes of Niger State and Nigeria at large. Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada (rtd), gave the commendation while he led the Senior Executive Course 37 of 2015 participants of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, who were on a study tour to the university.

    He expressed satisfaction with IBBUL’s infrastructural stride, applauding the Niger State government for establishing the institution. Jekada stressed that every effort should be made to ensure that the funding system is enduring for sustainability.

    Jekada said the visit was part of traditional mandates of participants to undertake a tour to research and educational institutions nationwide with a view to expanding their knowledge on critical issues affecting the sector and how to evolve policies that could help mitigate some challenges.

    In his response, IBBUL Vice-Chancellor, Prof Muhammad Nasir Maiturare told participants that the university, with her 10 years of modest history has evolved through developmental stages and now ranks high among its equals.

  • IBBUL partners ICAN to boost accounting programme

    The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has expressed its determination to give all the needed support to the Management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL) towards regaining full accreditation for its accounting programme this year.

    The university lost accreditation for the programme during last year’s accreditation exercise by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

    IC AN President and Chairman, of Governing Council, Mr Chidi Ajaegbu, assured the university management during the council’s visit to the university that it would provide professional support to bolster the accounting programme with the required human capital and academic curriculum that meet international standard.

    Ajaegbu pointed out that the collaborative arrangement between the university and the institute would result in nurturing the students into professionals that can compete favourably on the global stage.

    The ICAN boss underscored the critical role accountancy professionals play in the development of every economy and enjoined the university to adhere strictly to global accounting standards by prudently utilizing the resources made available for its development.

    Responding, the IBBUL Vice-Chancellor, Prof Muhammad Nasir Maiturare, expressed delight with the visit and assured that no effort would be spared to strengthen the partnership.

    He said that concerted efforts are being made to regain the accounting programme and any other that suffered similar misfortune during the last accreditation exercise.

     

     

     

  • IBBUL matriculates 1,400 students

    About 1,400 students have sworn the matriculation oath of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL) for the 2012/2013 academic session.

    The new students represent about 9.3 per cent of the 15,000 candidates who applied for placement in the university.

    Addressing the students, Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Kolo, urged them to face their studies with all seriousness to justify the opportunity of the admission and investment of their parents.

    “Out of over 15,000 applications received for admission, only a fraction were able to scale the herculean hurdle of been qualified to be offered the admission, hence the need for you to be committed and disciplined about every academic activity,” he said.

    He also advised them to desist from any act that could jeopardise their future and the image of the university as the institution does not compromise on issues of academic standard.

    Kolo, while commending the cordial working relationship his administration is enjoying with members of staff, also appealed to the parents and well meaning individuals in Niger State to support the university by establishing legacy projects to accelerate its development.
