Ibe better than Sterling -Liverpool legend

When a Liverpool legend like Mark Lawrenson speaks then it is worth listening and he rates Jordan Ibe as a greater talent than Raheem Sterling.

Lawrenson suggests that Liverpool youngster Jordon Ibe may even be a greater talent than the recently departed Raheem Sterling who has joined Manchester City.

In his column for the Liverpool Echo, Lawrenson said: “Jordon Ibe’s impressive form this summer has prompted some fans to suggest Liverpool should be happy in selling Raheem Sterling because Ibe is a better player.

“Sadly, such matters don’t work like that. But I do feel as though Ibe has the greater ability. He has the capacity to beat a man in a short space which, for me, Sterling was unable to do on a regular basis.

“Sterling didn’t have a ‘trick’ whereas Ibe has a few, most notably his ability to cut inside off the flank. As a winger, that quality can’t be overstated enough. It’s massive.

“Young players who grow up as wingers generally learn how to take players on down the outside and get to the byline. The ability to also beat a man coming inside and play a pass or shot is more difficult.

“Simply remember the way he announced himself last season in the Goodison derby by cutting inside off the right wing and then smashing a blistering shot against the woodwork.

“Look, I’m not saying he’s the new John Barnes. Far from it. But I can see a sameness in terms of their physicality. And if he ends up being half the player, then Liverpool will have a real success on their hands.

You have to think Ibe’s going to start the season. And that puts the onus on him to help provide service for Christian Benteke, who is also likely to be first choice.”

  • Aldridge: Ibe is perfect replacement for Sterling

Aldridge: Ibe is perfect replacement for Sterling

Former Liverpool FC striker, John Aldridge, believes the Reds have an ideal replacement for Raheem Sterling in Anglo-Nigerian, Jordon Ibe.

John Aldridge suggested that this is the right time for the Merseysiders to cash in on Sterling with reports rife that the England international is set to leave Anfield this summer.

Aldridge suggested a perfect replacement in Ibe who has enjoyed first team action this season having recorded 10 appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool, starting six of those games.

“It’s a very tough dilemma. What’s best for the club? If Raheem really wants to leave the club, then my opinion is that you get what you can for him now if he doesn’t want to play for Liverpool Football Club.

“It’s not ideal with Steven Gerrard leaving at the same time but if we get £40m we’ve got an ideal replacement for Raheem’s position in Jordon Ibe,” Aldridge told the Liverpool Echo.

Aldridge who seem to have a made up mind that Sterling will leave continued: “It’s a hard one for the manager, for Ian Ayre and for John Henry. I want him to be at Liverpool for the rest of his career. If he can endear himself to the fans again then there’s no reason for him to leave Liverpool.

“From where we are I’d be surprised if he stayed but I’d love to be proved wrong.”

Man City eye shock Ibe move

Dethroned English Champions, Manchester  City  are reportedly eyeing a shock summer move for Liverpool’s kid sensation Jordon Ibe. The 19-year-old has come into his own at Anfield with some breath-taking displays, especially in the Merseyside derby earlier in the season and this has prompted Liverpool to offer him a new improved deal. However, the youngster with Nigerian roots who was widely expected to sign last month has decided to put contract talks on hold until the end of the season and this has alerted Manchester City as they are now monitoring the situation with keen interest, according to the Daily Mail. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is a huge believer in the talents of the former Wycombe Wanderers winger who joined the Reds in 2012 and he is desperate to see him sign a new deal at the club. ”He’s a classic example of where you’ve got to map out a young player and his development, in order to put him in. Now, he looks very much a first-team player, ” Rodgers said. ‘I think he’s going to be a big player for us because he’s a wonderful talent with his power and pace, and he will be huge for us in the coming years.’ Liverpool are confident that the youngster, who has made seven starts this season will sign a new long time contract worth at least £30,000 a-week to keep him from the claws of Manchester City.
