    Ibom Angels get N20m gift, coaster bus for NWFL return  

    Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno has rewarded the players and officials of the state women’s side, Ibom Angels, with N20 million Naira and a new coaster bus following their swift return to the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership. 

    Ibom Angels picked one of the two promotion tickets from the NWFL Championship playoff held in Calabar, Cross Rivers State last weekend and in a state reception held for the team, Governor Eno doled out N20 million Naira cash to the team as well as replacing their coaster bus.

    Ibom Angels topped Group A2 with three victories before beating Osun Babes 2-0 in the promotion playoff final through the goals of Abasiofon Uwah and Victory Onuma in the 10th and 61st minutes.

    The win proved to be more crucial has it landed them and instant return to the topflight after just a season

    Coming on the heels of Super Eagles convincing 3-0  victory over Benin in Uyo on Saturday, State Governor Pastor Umoh Eno has been commended again for the return of the state’s  women football team,  Ibom Angels to the top echelon of the Nigeria Women league- the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.

    Yesterday  in Calabar, Ibom Angels defeated Osun Babes 2-0 in a match that guaranteed their promotion.

    After being relegated last season, Ibom Angels arrived the Calabar zonal play off involving 19 teams with only two promotion slots available.

    Playing in Group B1, Ibom Angels won all their four matches and capped it with the Sunday Victory over Osun Babes leaders of A2

    In a quick reaction, state commissioner for Youth Development and Sports , Sir Monday Uko said:“ Give it to the Governor. He made it possible. Nowhere in this country will you see a governor supporting four teams and that is our lot in Akwa Ibom.

    “ Akwa Utd, Dakkadda, Ibom I’m Youth and Ibom Angels are well funded and supported and the evidence are the results that you are seeing “ he said.

    An elated Coach Edwin Okon corroborated the story: In Calabar we lacked nothing and that allowed us to concentrate. I thank His Excellency for the enabling environment.”

    He also appreciated the sports commissioner and his girls for ‘putting a smile on the faces of Akwa Ibomites’.
