  • ‘Buhari, special gift to Nigeria’

    The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi,  said on Monday that President Muhammadu Buhari is a special gift and a great asset to Nigeria considering his laudable achievements in the country.

    Balarabe-Abdullahi made this known while speaking with newsmen in Lafia to facilitate with President Buhari at 76.

    The Speaker described the leadership qualities of President Buhari as purposeful and eventful, urging for support and prayers to enable the president succeed in delivering the much needed dividend of democracy to Nigerians.

    He added that President Buhari is a man of integrity, unquestionable character and having the   determination to change the future of the country, hence the need for prayers and support from citizens to enable him succeed beyond 2019.

    Balarabe-Abdullahi observed that the past three and half years of the President have been eventful and progressive as according to him “a lot of transformation have been made so far by APC-led Federal Government.

    “Nigerians have seen what the government of President Buhari has done since its inception especially in the area of security, corruption, agriculture, youths empowerment among other sectors in order to improve on the welfare of Nigerians,” he said.

    Balarabe- Abdullahi while felicitating with President on his 76th birthday celebration prayed God to give him more wisdom, long life, guide and protect to move the nation to the next level of development now and beyond 2019.

  • 2019: Buhari remains best option for Nigeria – Nasarawa speaker

    The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, said President Muhammadu Buhari still remains the best presidential material for Nigeria in 2019 as the country’s future is assured in his hands as well as considering his laudable achievements in the country.

    Balarabe-Abdullahi made this known on Monday while answering questions from newsmen in Lafia.

    The speaker lauded President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Tanko Al-Makura over their giant developmental strides which impacted positively on the lives of Nigerians in their three and seven years in office respectively.

    According to him, President Buhari deserves second term with the feat so far recorded by him especially in the area of fight against corruption, insurgency, and provision of employment opportunities, agriculture, and diversification among others.

    He said that the opposition cannot get any candidate for now that can beat President Buhari in Nigeria, noting that APC will win with a landslide victory during the 2019 general election.

    “Nigeria’s future is assured with President Buhari at the helm of affairs and APC under him is unbeatable,” he said. He emphasized that if President Buhari came for the second term, it would move Nigeria to a greater height and would also provide succour to the entire nation as most of the challenges would be tackled.

    He said the government had impacted positively on the lives of the people of Nasarawa state, hence the need for him to accept calls going by well-meaning citizens to contest for the Senate seat of the southern zone of the state.

    “Gov. Al-Makura had done creditably well and is still doing his best in improving on the lives of the people of the state and his developmental strides which cut across all sectors of the economy especially in the area of
    health, education and agriculture among others”.

     

     

  • LG polls: Nasarawa speaker denies snatching ballot box

    The Speaker of the Nasarawa state House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, has denied allegations that he had snatched ballot box during the chairmanship primary election of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Toto local government area of the state.

    Balarabe Abdullahi stated this while fielding question from journalists in Lafia on Tuesday.

    He described the allegation as, not only false, but unfounded and baseless, saying it is a contraption created by his political foes who do not wish him well in
    his political career”.

    According to him: “Hon. Nuhu Dauda, one of the chairmanship aspirants, was leading and his opponents were no longer comfortable and resolved to throwing stones and other dangerous weapons at people who were present at the venue”.

    “Journalists, you may wish to do further investigation and I assure you that you will find my statement to be the truth”.

    “As a number third citizen of Nasarawa state, how will I snatch ballot box meant for election when there was adequate security on
    ground.

    “The election was going on smoothly before some people went and mobilized their thugs to disrupt the process which was unfortunate and a
    threat to our electoral process”.

    “What I always preach is free, fair and credible election. Let the electorates, the delegates decide who will be their local government
    chairman”.

    He emphasized that delegates from his Umaisha/Ugya constituency gave testimony of his acceptance by his people.

    Balarabe Abdullahi threatened to sue those who are tarnishing his name and called on them to desist from their evil acts towards him.

    The Nation recalls that the Nasarawa state Independent Electoral Commission (NANSIEC) has fixed May 26 for the conduct of the local government
    election in the state.

  • Al-Makura appoints chairman, three members of state revenue board

    Gov. Tanko Al Makura of Nasarawa state has submitted the name of Mr. Ahmed Mohammed and three others as chairman and members of the state’s Board of Internal Revenue Service.

    Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House, announced the appointment on Tuesday after the majority leader, Alhaji Tanko Tunga (APC-Awe North) read the governor of letter at the floor of the house in Lafia.

    “The governor said that their appointment was to improve on the state revenue profile”.

    “Ahmed Mohammed is nominated as chairman while Sabo Balarabe Usman, Emmanuel Zakaria and Ali Mohammed as members of Nasarawa state Board of Internal Revenue Service,” he said.

    Balarabe Abdullahi directed the clerk of the house to communicate to the nominees to come for their screening and possible confirmation on March 14th.

    He said that each of the nominees should submit 24 copies of their curriculum vitae today before closing time of 4pm.

    Nasarawa Assembly passes Area Court bill into law

    Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday passed the bill for a law to amend the Area Courts law 1968 which provides for the appointment of only graduates of law as Area Court judges in the state.

    Hon Ibrahim Balarabe- Abdullahi, the speaker of the house, while announcing the passage of the bill into law in Lafia said that the new law also abolished the composition of 3 panels of judges in the Area courts.

    Balarabe- Abdullahi, who is the sponsor of the bill, said that the new law would also tackle the bottlenecks in ensuring the administration of justice in the state.

    According to the law: “No legal practitioner shall be barred from appearing to act for or assist any party in any civil proceedings before an Area Court in Nasarawa state”.

    “The importance of lawyer’s appearances in court cannot be over-emphasized to the administration of justice in the country, hence the need for the amendment of the said law to allow lawyers appear in area courts to assist any party in any civil proceedings “the speaker stressed. .

    He explained that: “The age long law banning lawyers from appearing in Area Courts and the composition of 3 panels of judges has now be abolished and the appointment of only graduates of law as Area Court judges is necessary, hence the need for the amendment”.

    Balarabe- Abdullahi, who represents Umaisha/Ugya constituency in the state Assembly, also said that the amendment of the laws was long over considering the achaic laws guiding the operation of the Area Courts in the state.

    The Speaker further restated the assembly’s commitment to continue to enact laws and pass resolutions that have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state.

    The Nation also reports that a bill for a law to amend the State Local Government Election Law 2003 passed first reading.

    The house also screened and confirmed Messers Mohammed Ayitogo and Nuhu Ismaila as Interim Management Committee chairmen of Keana and Keffi local government areas of the state respectively.

    Nasarawa Assembly passes Disability Rights Commission bill into law

    Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed into law the bill for the establishment of the state’s Disability Right Commission.

    The bill when signed into law by the state governor, Umaru Al-Makura, will protect the rights of disabled persons in the state.

    Speaker of the Nasarawa Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, announced the passage of the bill during plenary on Monday.

    The passage followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Tanko Tunga which was seconded by Mohammed Okpede, representing Doma North.

    The speaker noted that the establishment of the commission would enhance the rights of physically challenged persons and give them a sense of belonging to contribute their quota to the development of the state.

    According to him, “This bill is an Executive Bill sent to the House by Gov. Umaru Al-Makura, as part of his government’s continued commitment to improve the lives of the disabled persons in the state.

    “The importance of this Commission to the development of the disabled persons cannot be over-emphasized, hence the need for the passage of the bill into law.

    “We commend Governor Al-Makura for initiating the bill and I would also like to appreciate my honourable colleagues for giving adequate attention to it”.

    He explained that the bill was subjected to all the legislative process before it was passed, adding that various stakeholders overwhelmingly supported the establishment of the commission during public hearing on the bill.

    The speaker directed the Clerk of the House to make clean copy of the bill available to the governor for further action.

    Nasarawa State Assembly confirms list of LG interim committee’s

    The Nasarawa State Assembly on Tuesday confirmed the appointments of 11 Chairmen and 147 members of Local Government Interim Management Committees (IMCs) made by Gov. Tanko Al-Makura.

    The Speaker, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, announced the confirmation in Lafia after the appointees had appeared for screening at the floor of the house.

    Balarabe-Abdullahi said that their confirmation was based on their track records, adding that it was also made to boost grassroots development in the state.

    He tasked the committee chairmen and members to be transparent and accountable in the discharge of their duties when sworn in, for the overall development of the state.

    The confirmed IMC chairmen are Kwanta Yakubu for Akwanga Local Government (LG), Hudu Tafida, Awe LG; and Rabo Sani, Doma LG.

    Others are James Thomas, Karu LG; Jamila Sarki, Kokona LG; Yahuza Mairafi, Lafia LG; Ayuba Wandai, Nasarawa LG; Danlami Idris, Nassarawa Eggon LG; and Sa’adatu Yahaya, Obi LG.

    Also confirmed were Nuhu Dauda for Toto LG and Murtala Lamus for Wamba LG.

    “Yesterday, this house received a letter from his Excellency, Gov. Tanko Al-Makura, for the screening of 11 local government interim management committee chairmen and 147 members.

    “Today, we have screened and confirmed the 11 IMC chairmen and 147 members based on their track records.

    “We, hereby, direct the Clerk of the house to communicate the confirmation of the appointees to the governor for further necessary action,” he said.

    The speaker restated the assembly’s commitment to enacting laws and passing resolutions that would have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state.

    The Majority Leader, Alhaji Tanko Tunga (APC-Awe North), moved a motion for the confirmation of the appointees and was seconded by the Minority Leader, Alhaji Mohammed Okpede (PDP-Doma North).

    1,120 Nasarawa State pilgrims arrive in Saudi Arabia – Amirul Hajj

    Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, Nasarawa State Amirul Hajj, said on Tuesday that the 1,120 pilgrims from the state had arrived in Saudi Arabia and were in good condition.

    Balarabe-Abdullahi said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia.

    He expressed satisfaction with the successful arrival of the last batch of the Muslim pilgrims in Medina, Saudi Arabia.

    He urged the pilgrims to adhere strictly to the laws of the Saudi Government, to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

    According to him, “the first batch of the pilgrims are expected to leave Medina on Wednesday to Mecca in continuation of the Hajj’’.

    The Amirul Hajj said that the pilgrims would continue to pray for the unity and peace of the country.

    NAN reports that on Aug. 16, the 256 first batch from the state arrived in the Holy Land to perform this year’s pilgrimage .

    Wadada begins consultations, visits Nasarawa legislators

    Alhaji Ahmed Wadada, a two-term PDP member of the House of Representatives, who recently defected to the APC, has begun consultations toward contesting the Nasarawa governorship seat in 2019.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Wadada took his preliminary consultations to the Nasarawa House of Assembly on Tuesday in Lafia, where he formally informed the legislators of his ambition.

    “My visit is to fraternize with members and inform the House of my intention to contest the state’s governorship seat come 2019,” he said.

    While soliciting their support, he commended the legislators for their cordial working relationship with the executive arm, saying that it had sped up development and quality governance.

    Wadada appealed to Nasarawa residents to respect constituted authority and embrace peace irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation.

    Responding, the Speaker, Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, said that the floor was open for aspirants to test their popularity, stressing that no one had been anointed by any group.

    “The House will support any credible candidate capable of bringing the much desired development; at the right time, we shall sit down, examine the options, and make our stance known,” he said.

    He urged the aspirant to play by the rules in the interest of peace and national development.

    NAN reports that Wadada, a businessman, contested the Nasarawa South senatorial seat in the 2015 general, losing narrowly to then incumbent and former Nasarawa Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, by a very narrow margin.
