    Kwara monarch organizes prayers for Tinubu, AbdulRazaq

    The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, yesterday organized special prayers for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration.

    Accordingly, scores of Islamic clerics converged on Ilorin, the state capital, to offer special prayers for the country’s stability.

    The clerics also prayed to God to grant President Bola Tinubu and Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq successful tenure.

    In his remarks, the monarch said the prayers were held to pray to God to restore peace to all the troubled parts of the country and crown the efforts of Tinubu and AbdulRazaq at making the nation and Kwara better places for all to live.

    Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Soliu, led the prayers and was supported by the Imam Imale of Ilorin, Sheikh AbdulHamid Abdullahi, the Imam Gambari, Ajanasi, and Alfa Rabana, Imam Yakubu Aliagan, the grand Mufti of Ilorin, Sheikh Sulaiman Faruq Onikijipa, among others.

    The Senior Adviser and Counselor to Governor AbdulRazaq, Alhaji Saadu Salahu, represented the governor.

    Speaking with reporters on the sidelines of the event, Alhaji Salahu said: ” Ilorin being a citadel of knowledge in Islam, and the Qur’an is the guiding light of our forebears, and the Emir of Ilorin is the epitome of piety. The palace is a sacred place for divine prayers.

    “And in his contributions like he has always done in support of his son, who is the Governor of the state, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Emir deemed it fit to organise this special prayer for both President and the Governor, delighted that the President and his son, the Governor, are working together as partners for the progress of Nigeria.

    “Our own Governor, in the last six years, has established a track record of being a role model for other political leaders in terms of respect for traditional institutions in Nigeria. So, as the son of the Emir, that has been his track record.”

  • Osinbajo hails Ilorin monarch on political neutrality

    Vice president Yemi Osinbajo took his door to door campaign to Ilorin, the Kwara state capital ahead of the forthcoming elections.

    Prof hailed the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, for “maintaining balance “amongst political gladiators in the state.

    He said the emir has shown leadership and maintained balance despite the fact that some of his sons were contending with themselves in various elective positions in the 2019 general elections.

    The vice president spoke when he paid homage to the emir in his palace in Ilorin.

    He described the royal father as a respected judge during his active days on the bench.

    Osinbajo said he was in Ilorin to consult and have an interface with members of the All Progressive Congress ahead of the Saturday’s rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections.

    “It is our desire that President Muhammadu Buhari be voted for second term and our governorship candidate, Alhaji AbdulRahaman Abdulrasaq and all our candidates for House of Representatives and Senate,” he said.

    He said the federal government will always “be grateful” to the emir for his “leadership, fairness and for maintaining balance” amongst his sons who are in the race for various elective offices.

    The VP was accompanied by the minister of Information and culture Lai Mohammed, APC governorship candidate in the state, Alhaji AbdulRahaman Abdulrasaq, former chairman, Federal character  commission (FCC), Prof Shuaib AbdulRaheem, Chairman Sobi FM ,and former governorship aspirant, Ahaji Lukman Mustapha among others.

    Responding, Sulu-Gambari who expressed delight over the visit, prayed for continued peace and development in the state and the country as a whole.

     

  • Emir of Ilorin urges Muslim to be accommodating of other religions

     APC felicitates with Muslims

     

    The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu- Gambari on Friday urged Muslims in the country to accommodate and tolerate their Christian brothers.

    The Emir said this after the conduct of the two rakah prayer to mark the end of Ramadan at Ilorin Eid praying ground.

    The conduct of the prayer was peaceful and orderly while the praying ground was filled to capacity.

    The state Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed led other members of the state executive council to the praying ground.

    The traditional ruler also cautioned both the Muslim and Christian clerics against preaching hatred in order to allow peace reign supreme across the country.

    He sought Allah’s guidance for Nigerian leaders across board.

    In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Mohammed Salihu urged Muslims to allow the lessons of the just concluded prayer reflect in their daily endeavors.

    He admonished Muslims to continue to live peacefully with adherents of other religions.

    Sheikh Bashir who acknowledged the efforts of the state government at making life comfortable for the people of the state, urged them to continue in that vein.

    He reminded Nigerian leaders across board to always remember that their holding their offices in public trust, urging them to strive at all times to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people who elected them into office.

    A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state led by Bashir Bolarinwa also felicitated with Muslim faithful in the state for successful completion of Ramadan fast this year.

    In a statement, Hon Bolarinwa thanked the Almighty Allah for preserving the lives of all faithful to see Ramadan to a joyful end.

    Bolarinwa reminded every patriotic citizen of the state to continue to pray for “our dear state as activities of unscrupulous characters in the state are on the increase.

    “It is disheartening that while we are struggling to get out of the gruesome and sensless killing in Offa during the most organized armed robbery incident in the state, a director in the employ of the state government was assassinated few days ago.

    “We need to do more of prayers and the scholars must equally do more in their sermons to instill the fear of Allah in the minds of young people.”

    The party chairman prayed Almighty Allah to peacefully response all souls lost in those ugly incidents and fortitude for their families at this trying period.

    Insecurity: Ilorin emir cancels Sallah visit

    The Emir of Ilorin in Kwara State, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, yesterday cancelled this year’s traditional Sallah visit (Hawa’n Barike) to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, following insecurity in parts of the country.

    The emir and his council of chiefs have always visited the governors to mark Eid el Fitr Sallah celebrations.

    But on this occasion, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari said he was cancelling his traditional visit, following attacks in some parts of the country.

    The emir said the dastardly acts were not only condemnable but also uncharitable to the well-being of Nigerians.

    He regretted that evil-minded people celebrated the end of Ramadan fast with violence.

    Said he: “We decided to celebrate a low-key Sallah to commiserate with the nation and the families who lost their loved ones in the bombing.

    ‘’We also cancelled this year’s Sallah homage to the governor to further express our deep concern .

    “Whatever happens in other states also concerns us as a people and community. We pray that Allah restores peace to the country and foster unity among our people.”

    The emir warned youths to resist the temptation of being used as  thugs.

    The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, yesterday cancelled this year’s traditional Sallah homage (Hawa’n Barike) to the Government House over insecurity in parts of the country.

    It is customary for the emir and his council of chiefs to mark Eid el Fitr Sallah celebrations by paying homage to the Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

    The cancellation, the emir said, followed attacks before and during Sallah celebration in some parts of the country.

    Alhaji Gambari said dastardly acts were not only condemnable but also uncharitable to the well-being of Nigerians.

    Ilorin Emir warns politicians against violence in 2015

    Emir of Ilorin Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari has warned politicians in Kwara State against the use of thugs.

    The monarch spoke yesterday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, shortly after prayers marking this year’s Eid Fitr celebrations, led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Muhammad Salihu.

    Referring to the violent brawls between rival street urchins in the Ilorin, Alhaji Gambari regretted that the violence was perpetrated by political thugs, who relocated to the town from Lagos State.

    Alhaji Gambari said if the perpetrators were indigenes, they would have heeded the warning of elders and rulers in the state.

    The monarch urged the people to rise up against thugs and combat incessant violence in the state.

    Saying that the state was known for its peaceful nature, the emir said nobody should be allowed to throw the state into anarchy.

    He urged the state government to provide employment to youths, stressing that “an idle mind is the devil’s workshop”.

    In his sermon, Alhaji Salihu appealed to Muslims to exhibit the good deeds demonstrated at the Ramadan to make the society a better place to live.

    Also, a group known as the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria called for prayers to overcome the country’s security challenges.

    Coordinator of the group Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi recommended intensive prayers and negotiation too end the  security challenges.

    Said he: “We call on the security apparatus to use advanced intelligence-gathering mechanism to locate the sponsors and perpetrators of insurgency in Nigeria so that the over-200 school girls in captivity would be freed and peace returned to the nation.

    “The release of the Chibok girls is taking too long. As tension, anxiety and uncertainty pervade the nation, the ruling class should know that their utterances, actions and conduct are responsible for the present ‘state of the nation’.

    “They could stem the tide of insecurity, poverty, unemployment, financial impropriety manifested through corruption and other financial crimes”.
