  • Fake Bini chiefs campaigning for PDP, says Idahosa

Political Adviser to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Mr. Charles Idahosa has accused the Peoples Democratic Party of recruiting fake Bini Palace chiefs to canvass votes for the party.

This is just as the PDP accused the APC of plotting to substitute members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) trained for the September 28 polls with members of their party.

The PDP in a press statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, reiterated that the postponed election had nothing to do with insecurity in the state.

It said many elections was postponed to disenfranchise many electorates outside the state because the date is an official working day.

According to the PDP, ‘’And we have just been told by insiders within the APC that Governor Oshiomhole and his party had compiled list of their party’s members that they will secretly be used to replace the out-going trained NYSC members.

“We want to once again, put the international community, accredited election monitors and the general public on notice over the devious plan by APC. It will surely undermine our democracy and instigate crisis that might be very difficult to manage if Oshiomhole and his gang are allowed to have their way.

‘’It is now certain that the Edo State governorship election earlier scheduled for September 10 was put off by Adams Oshiomhole and a group of cabal within the APC to enable them have more time to manipulate the election.

“And as part of their strategy, we also expect them to unleash all kinds of propaganda against our candidate in the next two weeks in order to complement their devious plans to manipulate the election.’’

Idahosa said the plot to recruit the fake Chiefs was to tell the electorates that the Benin Traditional council had directed them to vote for the PDP.

He said the incidence happened in Oghada,a local village in Uhuwode local government area of Edo state.

According to him, “This morning the PDP hired some fake chiefs. We caught them in Oghada but luckily they escape. They came in big jeeps, they were moving from one village to the other, that is the home town of the Commissioner for energy, Washington Osifo, that the Oba palace sent them to come and tell the people that the palace said they should not vote APC.  You can see the level of desperation.

“We know they are not Benin chiefs, to suit the desperation of one human being at all course, But they were dressed like palace chief.

“In the same desperation they are bringing militants to Edo with guns. 13 of them are in Prison. What they did in Rivers and Delta states they cannot do it here.

“These governors who cannot pay Salaries are bringing in money here. Where will they get money to pay them back? We have never had bloody election in Edo, because the only reason we are smiling is that Ize-Iyamu promised them he can do all the evil things

“He will soon run to Redeem centre, to go and hide inside their church, that is what he sold to Chief Tony Anenih and others that he is the one that know APC, so, he is trying to meet up to boast he gave to them so we are waiting for him. He can be playing the role of agent provocature and the same people shouting.”

  • Edo PDP unserious with Ize-Iyamu’scandidacy – Idahosa

Edo PDP unserious with Ize-Iyamu’scandidacy – Idahosa

Chief Charles Idahosa is a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State. He is also the Political Adviser to Governor Adams Oshiomhole. In this interview, he spoke on the fast approaching governorship election in the state and posited that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is merely doing business with Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s governorship bid as the party already knows it cannot win the election. Excerpts:

SIR how has your party’s campaign been so far? I’m 130 percent sure of victory. Our campaign is on course and we are doing very well. Governor Adams Oshiomole, is  leading the campaign for Godwin Obaseki’s election and I’ve been asking who is leading Ize Iyamu’s campaign. It’s so clear now that the person he worked for, the person whom he told the world he gathered his experience from is nowhere to be found. So that’s speaks volumes. It speaks for itself. The campaign is on course, we are doing very well. I am from Uhumwonde Local Government and you are interviewing me now in my local government. Few days ago, Ize Iyamu’s campaign team was here. I was shocked because they were less than a hundred and fifty.

But you know how they doctor things now. I think its camera work or something. When you see the crowd and the people, you will think actually they have people. I think their campaign is non-existent but you know, there is a little difference between ambition and obsession. What is happening to my dear younger brother Ize-Iyamu is obsession for the office of governor. He knows he is not doing well on the field but if you see them, they will always boast. Ize-Iyamu’s campaign has been very pathetic due to what they did to this state during the Igbinedion era. So they think that people can be stupid to allow PDP to return? That is not possible. So our campaign has been very wonderful and we are sure of victory.

There is this fear that internal bickering may force some of your members to work against your party?

I can tell you that will not happen. Let me tell you something, those of us who are known as partisan politicians, who attend meetings, we are not up to 5 percent of the population. The remaining 90 percent are the voters; they don’t know if we are quarrelling or if we are not. When it’s time for election, they go on their own because they are seeing what the APC government led by Adams Oshiomhole has done.

Are you impressed with the performance of your candidate so far?

Yes, Obaseki has learnt very fast. I am monitoring what is going on. The first time he spoke in public, you remember what they were saying. They said ‘the person you people brought cannot talk.’ I was just laughing. You think it’s easy to spend thirty years in the private sector and suddenly jump up and start addressing mammoth crowd. I said he will get used to it but now I just see him dancing the different dance styles. He’s gotten used to it. He can deliver. He has gotten used to it because he is a very brilliant young man. Like I said, I have known the young man right from school. I was a couple of years ahead of him so I know him very well. We grew up in the same area and he has been very consistent.

For his age he is very mature. So he is okay. He is firmly on ground. He has a full grasp of what is happening. He’s a complete technocrat who knows what he wants to do. I was reading something in one of the national papers. Somebody criticized him over his promise to create 200,000 jobs in 4 years. He said Oshiomhole could not create 100 jobs in the service. So I called his number, the guy didn’t pick so I sent him a text. I told him if you call yourself a columnist, you must do your research. He didn’t say he was going to recruit 200,000 people in his service, he said he was going to create employment in the Agric sector with investors. I believe in him, he will do very well.

PDP is also very optimistic of victory. What do you think they are banking on?

They are not banking on anything. They have always been like that. I came from PDP. It is very difficult for you to forget your old habit. Back then, they would tell us “don’t come here complaining, go and win the election anyhow you like and leave the rest to us”. They are just talking trash. It is the last kick of a dying horse that you are seeing now. I’m not impressed. They will talk big on election day you will see it. Do you know what is confusing them? It is the last National Assembly election. I keep explaining this to a lot of different people. The last national assembly election, a lot of people are still not able to look at it, break it down and analyze it.

They were a lot of sentiments in that election. They have no chance in this election; if they are boasting, let them boast. Obaseki is the next governor for Edo state. I don’t know what you mean by an edge. God has said it. He cannot allow evil people to come back to steal again. They will lose more votes now than they did in 2012. Just go and mark it.

There are those saying Ize Iyamu’s APC connections will swing some votes for him.

Ize-Iyamu’s being in APC before cannot give him victory. We have heard all of this before. Pastor was in APC; there is nothing new about it. Yes he was one of us but now he is not. So I will now call a meeting for example in my ward and I will say let’s vote PDP because Pastor was in APC before? Impossible. You need to see the speed with which people are decamping from PDP now. I don’t think PDP has a chance in Edo state. People say ‘change the change’. They didn’t do their research well. What are you changing the change to? The looting before? You want to change to what happened to this state 10 years ago? I told some of their leaders during the campaign, ‘don’t say Oshiomhole has not done anything. Just say what you can do’. The people are not stupid. Unknown to them, the people of PDP are business men. They are very smart. They know how to deceive people. They know they are not going to win, but they see it as an opportunity to make money.  They have said all kinds of things but I just think that they are frustrated and there is nothing for them again. I will even like to find out who actually is their candidate because we have Pastor and Iduoriyekemwen. We don’t even know who our opponent will be. They are in disarray and they can never win this competition.

  • Why Idahosa quit as commissioner, by Edo govt

The Edo State government has explained why Mr Dennis Idahosa left the executive council of Governor Adams Oshiomhole .

The government, in a statement by Information and Orientation Commissioner Louis Odion, said Idahosa was indicted for advance fee fraud by an administrative panel.

The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to spates of disinformation and untruths in a section of the media with regards to the sudden exit of Mr. Dennis Idahosa from the Edo State Executive Council as commissioner for Investment, Public/Private Partnership.

“For clarity, we wish to state that in the last two months, Governor Adams Oshiomhole had received a series of petitions, mostly from overseas, alleging that Mr. Idahosa was engaged in fraudulent activities (popularly called 419) on an industrial scale. The petitioners, purporting to be his victims, alleged they had been swindled of huge sums of money.

“Disturbed and consistent with his zero tolerance for corruption or any conduct that might tarnish the image of Edo State or bring the country to international odium for that matter, Comrade Oshiomhole had last year set up a high-level administrative panel to look into the grave allegations discreetly.

After weeks of forensic investigations, the panel’s findings were startling.

“Last week, Mr. Idahosa became aware that the administrative panel was on the verge of formally requesting him to answer those weighty charges. As a matter of fact, last Thursday (January 29), Mr. Idahosa had attended APC Mega Presidential rally at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium that was well attended in his capacity as commissioner. Curiously, he would dramatically reappear barely 24 hours later at the secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announcing his defection.

“We do not want to join the speculation that Mr. Idahosa’s defection was designed to pre-empt the report of the administrative panel or his action motivated by an external offer of protection. However, in the name of decency and justice and international image of our country, we can only encourage Mr. Idahosa to come out in the open and answer the sundry allegations of 419 levelled against him. Otherwise, the long arm of the law, though may be delayed by his new powerful friends, will ultimately prevail.”
