FC Ifeanyiubah owner slammed 10-game ban

Owner of FC Ifeanyiubah, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, has been handed a 10-match suspension from venues of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The League Management Company (LMC) took the latest decision on Thursday after finding Ubah guilty of encroaching the field of play in his club’s match against Heartland on March 23 and further “assaulting Heartland player Ebele Obi”.

The league body, which oversees Nigeria’s top-flight, further announced that four of the 10-match ban to Ubah is “suspended for a probationary period till the end of the season.”

Ubah was also fined the sum of N2.5 million, and is expected to write “a letter of apology and an undertaking to be a good ambassador of the Nigerian league.”

However, Ubah has until 5pm local time (6pm CAT) on Saturday to appeal LMC’s ruling.

The LMC had earlier on Wednesday reprimanded Ubah for his action until an independent video emerged on micro-blogging social media, Twitter, showing the Heartland goalkeeper, Obi, being assaulted by Ubah and his security personnel.

Also, the league company has banned “self-procured security services” from match venues except those sanctioned by it.

The Heartland goalkeeper was handed a six-game ban on Wednesday.

    Giwa FC beat IfeanyiUbah

Giwa FC beat FC Ifeanyi Ubah 2-0 to go joint tops with Sunshine Stars that let slip late into their fixture at Abia Warriors to lose 3-2.

Charles Henlong opened scoring for the Jos Elephants on 23rd minute and Ocheme Edoh consolidated on 49th minute to hand Giwa FC their first win in three games.

The win shoots them to 20 points from 11 games, same as table toppers, Sunshine Stars that crashed to Abia Warriors 3-2 in Umuahia.

The drama in Umuahia started early in the game with Stephen Eze handling the ball inside the box on 3rd minute.

Bolaji Sakin made no mistake in converting from the spot for the hosts but three minutes after, old fox, Dele Olorundare restored parity for the Akure Gunners with a simple tap in from close range after Abia Warriors goalkeeper, John Gaadi failed to deal with a defense splitting cross. Match hero, Chisom Chikatara, the famous Kolanut Boy popped up on the 26th minute to restore the host’s lead when he beat an offside trap to beat goalkeeper Danladi Issah for his sixth goal of the season.

Abia Warriors would have doubled their lead four minutes after in a swift counter offensive that was wasted by Michael Ibe Okoro who shot high an illustrious cross from Kalu Nweke. Tunji Adeniji would later capitalize from another John Gaadi fumble to level scores on 77 minute and the winner came for the hosts two minutes into added time when substitute Okorie Torti was brought down inside the box by goalkeeper Issah .

This time, it was Chikatara who made stood over the ball to blaze home to bring final scores at 3-2 and the full points for embattled Coach Ladan Bosso to have some respite.
