A Fellow of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), vying for the Chairmans of Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Abayomi Adelakun, said God’s calling is propelling him to contest for the seat.
Speaking to reporters, Adelakun, a pastor and former chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Igbogbo Bayeiku LCDA, also talked on how his political journey started.
“God told me to go and save the dying souls, but as a pastor and a man of God, I mistook it for evangelism,” he said.
However, after preaching on buses for three times a week, Adelakun said he received further clarification from God. “A voice came back to me and said, ‘God said this is not the souls I’m calling you to save, I am talking about the dying souls, not the lost ones.’”
Adelakun said he had organised medical outreach programmes across the five political wards.
“The three editions of the medical outreach had over 1,500 participants, who were attended to and we treated people with special cases like high blood pressure and tuberculosis. I felt the joy inside me doing this,” he said.
Adelakun said he was honoured with the ‘Ikorodu Man of the Year’ award last year for his gesture.

“My people have been agitating for me to contest for the chairmanship position, based on my impact and contributions to the community, especially when I was chairman of the CDC, bringing impactful and purposeful leadership to the populace.”
He promised to invest in the education if elected as chairman, “because education is the bedrock of any development and best legacy that any parent can bequeath to any child. I’m also going to focus on completing and upgrading primary healthcare units, improving market areas, youth empowerment, see to the welfare of elderly, widow, people living with disabilities, create good environment and encourage entrepreneurship, maintain peace and security, uphold the rich cultural heritage, create enabling environment for tourist attractions along the coastal and empower traders.”
Adelakun also promised to fast-track the development of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA.
