    against Cameroon

Watford of England striker, Odion Jude Ighalo has expressed delight at his second goal for the Super Eagles and has decided to dedicate it to God who guided him to add to his tally on his return to the senior national team in the 3-0 whitewash of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in Brussels, Belgium on Sunday.

Ighalo’s omission from the Eagles in the last 2017 AFCON qualifier against Tanzania generated a lot of mixed reactions from Nigerians and the striker who has five EPL goals this season never disappointed when he grabbed the Eagles’ third goal in the 88th minute of the match against the tamed Cameroonians.

The former Lyn Oslo and Udinese forward told SportingLife from his base that he was delighted that he was on the scoresheet and that the Eagles bounced back impressively against Cameroon after the 2-0 loss to the Leopards of Congo DR in the first friendly match played in Belgium.

Ighalo said the team played very well throughout the Sunday tie to cap the three goals got against the Indomitable Lions as against the uninspiring performance against Congo DR.

He called for patience on the part of Nigerians adding that with more games, the Eagles will gradually play with more fluidity and confidence that will attract good results.

“I am happy to score my second goal for the Eagles and to crown it all the team played very well as against the game we played against Congo DR. I dedicate my goal to God who has been watching over me and keeping me strong in my chosen field. We need more time and games together for the team to properly blend and gel together.

“We need Nigerians behind us and they need to be patient with the national team. We need their support every time, especially when things are rough,” Ighalo told SportingLife.

Ighalo, who returned back to England on Monday told SportingLife that he  resumed light training yesterday with his team mates in Watford ahead of their weekend blockbuster with Arsenal at the Vicarage Road Stadium.

He said he would start full training session today and that he hopes to keep himself injury free so as to be available for the tie with the London giants.

Watford are 12th on the EPL with 10 points from eight matches and they held AFC Bournemouth to a 1-1 draw in the last league encounter before the international break with Ighalo scoring his side’s equaliser in the match. It was his fifth goal of the campaign from eight matches.

    •Nets 45th minute leveler

Super Eagles forward Odion Ighalo continued his goal scoring feat for Watford on Saturday as he grabbed a 45th minute equalizer for the side to avoid what perhaps would have ended as defeat by AFC Bournemouth.  The homers had shot into the lead in the 28th minute thanks to Glenn Murray who converted a brilliant assist from teammate Matt Ritchie.  The strike of course gave AFC Bournemouth bench and fans a lot to celebrate, but the jubilation was short lived when the Nigerian international rattled defenders just before the end of the first half to level scores at 1-1 in front of 11,187 spectators at the Vitality Stadium (Bournemouth, Dorset).

Although the hosts maintained 53% possession as against Watford’s 47%, the remaining half of the game failed to provide further goals for either side.

Prior to Saturday’s match, Ighalo, who has so far made about 41 appearances for the side with 24 goals in the kitty has recorded goals this season against Newcastle and Swansea respectively. He scored the only goal in Watford’s win over Swansea City and two goals in 2-1 away win over Newcastle.

Odion Ighalo was quick  to highlight the vital role  played by fellow front-man Troy Deeney for both of his goals against Newcastle United yesterday.

Nigerian striker Ighalo found the net twice during a superb first-half display at St James’ Park, but both strikes were set up by Watford skipper Deeney, and the Hornets went on to win 2-1 in Tyneside.

“Troy’s assisted me for three of the four goals I’ve scored this season,” pointed out Ighalo, speaking to the Watford Weekend Post-Match Review on Hornets PlayerHD.

“But we didn’t only click now, since last season we played together up-front in the Championship and we were playing well and working hard together then.

“I’m so happy that we’re still working hard together, he’s a great striker and I know he’s going to score goals in this league because he’s an amazing guy and an amazing striker.

“He works hard for the team and he gives all his best any time he’s on the pitch. I’m really pleased, and I’m always happy to play with him.”

Ighalo has now scored 20 goals since the start of 2015 – more than any other player in England – and he was pleased to reflect on the latest two when reflecting after the final whistle.

“For the first goal I had a little bit of space and I had to shoot the ball under the legs of the defender, so the keeper could not see” he said.

“The second one was a great pass from Troy and I made the run behind the defender. I watched the keeper coming out and I knew I had to beat the keeper to one side and slot it in.

“I’m happy not only for my goals, but also for the all-round performance of the team. We really worked hard from the first minute to the last minute, and we really want to keep pushing like this.

“The game against Newcastle is now gone, all we are thinking about is Crystal Palace in the next game, so we want to focus and keep on going.”

“We just have to learn from this, and try not to concede late on next time, but we really worked hard,” Ighalo said.

Ighalo’s form in 2015 is fearsome as has scored the most goals (17) of any player in England’s top four tiers in the calendar year.
