The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that Edo PDP governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, is a duly registered voter with a valid Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC).

This confirmation was made by INEC during a court proceeding at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

INEC’s testimony came in response to a suit filed by Anslem Ojezua, another PDP aspirant who lost the party’s primary election, challenging Ighodalo’s nomination as the PDP candidate for the upcoming Edo state gubernatorial election scheduled for September 21.

Ojezua had alleged that Ighodalo’s PVC was fake, prompting the court case.

Edo 2024: PDP primary intact, Ighodalo not disqualified, says TAMO

Team Asue Media Organisation (TAMO) has claimed the primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on February 22, 2024 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium has not been annulled or cancelled.

It also stated Asue Ighodalo’s candidature as governorship candidate of the party has not been disqualified.

TAMO, in a statement in Benin City on Friday evening, said:  “According to the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the ruling by the Honourable Justice Inyang Ekwo in suit no: FHC/ABJ/CS/165/2024, the judge did not at any point in the ruling make mention of disqualifying Ighodalo or nullifying the February 22 primary election of the PDP.

“The counsel to the plaintiffs, Adaze Emwanta, who left the court room yesterday while the ruling was still on to address the press, claiming that the honourable court had disqualified Ighodalo and annulled the primary election, completely misled an entire nation and all media houses, both electronic and print, an act which has been described by sundry legal practitioners as reckless and reprehensible professional conduct.

“With the CTC now made public, the lies and propaganda of opposition parties have been short circuited.

“We call on all political parties to eschew propaganda and peddling lies and concentrate on selling their candidates and what he has to offer Edo people. They must wean themselves of promoting lies and propaganda against the candidate of the PDP, Dr Asue Ighodalo.

” It bears restating here that opposition parties are doing everything to just distract the high flying candidate of the PDP, Dr Asue Ighodalo, who is the darling of the people. He is not deterred. He is keenly focused on his dream for Edo State.

“Ighodalo remains unruffled by the propaganda and is focused on selling his message of ‘The Pathway to prosperity for all’ to the people of Edo State. He has vowed not to be distracted by the machinations of enemies of democracy.”

Edo 2024: AIM unveils independent campaign council for Asue/Ogie

The Asue Ighodalo Movement (AIM), a foremost support group campaigning for the election of Dr Asue Ighodalo/Barr Osarodion Ogie, candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 21 governorship election in Edo State has unfolded an elaborate Independent Campaign Council (ICC) to realize its dream.

The ICC, according to a document made available to newsmen in Benin, has a total of 300 carefully selected strong and dedicated members of the PDP across the state, representing the 192 wards, 18 local government area councils and the three senatorial zones.

The ICC is strategically structured in a way that it has a Management/Trustees board led by High Chief Frank Momoh; then there is the State Campaign Council with Hon Daniel Asekhame as Chairman and Chief Tony Alile as the deputy chairman while Emmanuel Osayi is the Secretary.

There are various sub-divisions such as security with 13 members, mobilization and sensitization with 31 members, senatorial coordinators with each district having one but Edo Central has two; local government area coordinators in all the 18 LGAs and a total of 192 ward coordinators across the state.

Speaking in a telephone chat, founder and coordinator, Hon Asekhame, who also doubles as the chairman, State Campaign Council of the ICC, said the motivation is nothing other than the fact that Dr Asue Ighodalo, the candidate is the best by far for the position and every hand must be on deck to ensure that Edolites are not short changed by puppeteers who are working day and night to saddle the state with a mere puppet in the name of a governor.

“Your question is very valid because a lot of people will really ask, why are these people doing all this? We at AIM are convinced that Dr Asue Ighodalo is the best candidate for the job. He is best by far. He is competent, he has the capacity and he has the character. At least, his antecedent over the years amply supports that claim. Two, he has a rich pedigree that he can’t afford to play with. His father is well known, his mother, well known. A princess and the first woman Perm Sec in Nigeria. So we are very convinced that with him in the saddle, Edo State is surely in safe hands. And so, we are determined to have him because he is the best out of the lot.

“On the flip side is a gang up against Edo State, a gang up against the people and a gang up against their children and their future by a band of puppeteers. They know very well that their candidate does not have what is needed to govern a highly enlightened and sophisticated state like Edo, no competence, no capacity, no simple knowledge, no self-confidence but they are throwing everything in to make sure they have their puppet as a governor. With that they will be able to control the state for their own selfish ends. We owe it a duty to ourselves and generation of Edolites unborn to stop them. That’s the motivation in a nutshell,” Asekhame stated.

He further clarified that with about two and a half months of campaign left, the AIM’s independent campaign council is determined to make the best use of the time via house to house, street to street and market to market and other strategic approaches in its sensitization and campaign drive.

Edo 2024: Group holds symposium to support PDP’s Ighodalo

The Good Governance Advocacy Group recently held a symposium to show their support for Edo State governorship candidate Asue Ighodalo in the upcoming election.

The event, themed “Obidients for an Edo that works for all: The Asue Ighodalo Phenomenon,” took place in Benin, the Edo State capital, and was well-attended.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, was praised as highly suitable for the governorship role to manage Edo state.

In his welcome address, the co-convener Obidients AI, Austin Isikhuemen highlighted the group’s vision and mission as the primary reasons for endorsing Ighodalo, citing his commitment to justice, fairness, and equity, as well as his impressive track record and integrity.

Isikhuemen emphasised that Ighodalo stands out significantly among the other candidates in the race.

Also speaking, Prof. Chris Nwaokobia Mustapha, gave enough explanation as to why Edo people cannot afford to toy with their future by electing the wrong candidate.

Prof Chris called on Asue to take Edo state to the exemplary height that will create peer pressure among other state governments which can raise the standard of governance nationally.

Prof Chris, also said that the Obidient Symposium was necessary as he explained that Obidients preached justice, equity and fairness and supported Peter Obi from the southeast in 2023.

He said they cannot now turn around to support a candidate of Labour Party who is from the same local government and senatorial district to take over from Governor Obaseki.

“Edo North was in the saddle for eight years before Edo South whose tenure of eight years is coming to a close. He jocularly asked, “Edo Central come wash plate?”

Responding, Ighodalo, spoke about great leaders like Lin Quan Yu and his Cambridge University days with Femi Fani-Kayode who became his ‘tutor’ because of the latter’s exceptional brilliance.

He said that the Singaporean leader was shocked when he later visited Nigeria and found it in a state of arrested development.

Asue said that Singapore has moved to the first world while Nigeria is apparently on a backslide.

“We have had oil revenues enough to build seven Dubai’s but where did all the money go? Choice of wrong leaders has been the cause of Nigeria’s development crisis,” he said.

Goodwill messages were received from the Deputy Governor, DG PDP Campaign Council, and Commissioner for Arts and Culture.

Professor Izibili’s guest lecture on ‘leadership and its role in attaining the Edo of our dreams’, was well received.

He defined leadership and showed the relationship between purposive leadership and governance outcomes.

He successfully linked leadership perception and the quest for the Edo State of our dream.

He highlighted the critical impact of character on the performance of a leader and concluded that leadership must not be left to chance but deliberately chosen with expected outcomes in mind.
